It is rare I find a book of criticism I will actually read all the way through, let alone enjoy all the way through, but this is just such a book. A thorough and fascinating look at the twentieth century's great writers from a spiritual perspective. Loved it.

Joyce Carol Oates is a recipient of the National Book Award and the PEN/Malamud Award for Excellence in Short Fiction. She is also the recipient of the 2005 Prix Femina for The Falls.
