“It’s Not About the Accent” is a story about a girl named Caroline Darcy who starts college and really strives to reinvent her image and her persona. After discovering even more about her Cuban roots through her great grandmother, she tries to exhibit this through her personality, physical appearance and behavior. Ironically enough she is an aspiring actress. She meets a lot of new, notable people including Erik and Peter. Erik is someone who is charmed by her free-spirited, outgoing self while...more

How would you like to be able to reinvent yourself? That's exactly what Caroline Darcy does. The summer after graduation, she enrolls in a session at the University of Southern Ohio before her freshman fall semester. Once away from home, she decides to embrace her Cuban roots (all 1/8th of those roots) and become Carolina for the summer. She purchases a new upbeat wardrobe and dyes her blonder hair Havana brown. On her first evening at USO, she attends a ge...more

A unique story that kept me reading, but kind of uneven in terms of writing and plot. Some sections were really excellent and insightful, and others make me roll my eyes at the author's attempt at 'teen speak'. I can't quite give it 4 stars, but there were a lot of good things about it. Multi-dimensional characters and a realistic and sweet love story are highlights.

I checked this book out from the library and then decided the that I didn't want to read it so I was going to return it without having even opened the cover but at last minute I decided to give it a shot. Boy am I glad that I did this book was great. It had emotion, fun, sadness, and love. It was a really fun book to read. I am so so so glad that I read it.

A girl trying to figure out her identity, but along the way get's a little too rough. The story was very fast paced , next thing i knew it was already spring break and the last page i was on- was christmas time! I wish the author took her time explaining other characters and settings.

A book about life and learning about yourself. I felt like I was there with Caroline on her adventure. While she was chasing her grandmothers fun and exciting life, she created her own kind of adventure filled with love, hurt, growing, and acceptance.

This was an amazing and beautiful story about a girl named Caroline who is trying to find out who she is and what kind of person she wants to become. It follows her through college and the experiences she has there, all the while with a good friend named Peter--who I instantly fell in love with, because who wouldn't? He's a rescuer and a charmer.
It's a great story about how she ends up finding her place in the world.

Not all that quality, but this one published by MTV Books ?? caught my eye. It did make me want to read more about the history of Cuba, but I think teens would like it more than I did.

I loved this! it had a strong message of just being your self, and finding out who you are, which is an idea that I'm really into right now.

Unique, entertaining read that's not too heavy but not sickly sweet.
