Willemsen, Roger, Afghanische Reise (2006)

Willemsen, German journalist of German TV fame and professor for literature at Bochum, travels through Afghanistan with Nadia Karim, an Afghan woman who returns after growing up in Germany. It started slowly and bittily, but grew on me more and more. Beautiful, clear language. heatbreaking stories of war and hardship, but also humour in the description of the film showing for women. Roger Willemsen shows that there is not just black and white. Ex-Taliban turn out to also have interest in culture and can surprise with moments of kindness. Afghanistan is a country I would love to see with its people who are hospitable and give, even when they have almost nothing.
