I LOVED THIS BOOK!!!! What can I say! I love Devyn's character. He's sexy, he's sweet, he's funny, he's hot, he's self-centered, and he thinks he's God's gift to women... And I've been waiting for his book since he showed up in this series in book 2.

I really enjoyed this story, so far my favorite in the series, but they get better with each book. I definetely recommend the Alien Huntress series to everyone. The alien angle is done perfectly, and it's a great and different take on paranormal romance.

Devyn is actually paired with "Bride", a vampire living on the surface, who doesn't know any other vampires, and has much to learn about her own culture and world. She's actually pretty likeable and kick ass. She's had to basically survive on her own, with only one friend, her shapeshifter friend, Aleaha.

Bride has been having problems feeding, or keeping blood down. In her search for Aleaha she finds Devyn. And for the love of everything that's holy he cannot understand why she doesn't fall at his feet drooling and wanting him. But the attraction is there from the first moment.

Devyn will come to teach her many things about her race, as well as risking his own life to take her underground to find out who she really is.

I loved the part where Bride goes into McKell's room and Devyn ends up following her and having sex, all the while Devyn knowing that McKell can hear them! Mean... so mean! LOL

I also thought it was soooo cute the friendship and bond that has developed between Devyn and Dallas. They are BFFs!! And Devyn is loyal to his BFFs!

This is a must read! And I can't wait to read more about the vampire world in the next book. Also, I can't wait to read Dallas's book, it all sounded VERY interesting in this one, and he's been one of my favorite characters from the beginning.(less)

Seduce The Darkness is book 4 in the Alien Huntress series. This time we get to see what makes the flirtatious AIR agent, Devyn, tick. I haven't read all the books in the series, but I did read the last one, Savor Me Slowly, so I'm pretty up to speed on the world. Unfortunately she had to learn the ropes herself and anyone she fed from died until she finally learned how to control herself. Recently Bride has been having a problem feeding. She can't seem to keep the blood down and is slowly getting weaker and weaker. While roaming the streets one night she catches a scent from her past. She has been searching for the owner of this scent for years and can't resist tracking it down.

Unfortunately for Bride, the scent leads her to Devyn. Devyn is shocked to learn that she's not interested in him at all and is only concerned with who he has been around that might make him smell like her lost friend. Devyn refuses to tell her anything about who he has been with and even though he knows about vampires he refuses to answer her questions about them. Their first meet leads to a battle of wills between them. They soon begin to plot against each other but neither can resist the attraction between them.

I liked the tension between Bride and Devyn. They both want each other but they both fought it. Devyn fought the lust less than Bride but he fought the caring more. Even though Devyn started out arrogant I liked the humor in his character. I loved that after he and Bride were together it was him who kept pushing for closeness even though he'd get panicky when he thought about it.

I also liked Bride's confidence. Sure, she could be vulnerable and insecure at times, but overall she was a very confident person. I thought her personality strengths complimented Devyn's weaknesses nicely. I really liked how she thought Devyn was insane when he tried to show her 'respect' in his own way. I also liked that she still stayed paranoid and ready to run even after Devyn was with her.

Overall a great book. The only thing that was a letdown was the end. It seemed like it went by really fast after the big fight. It wasn't bad, just disappointing. I guess I was just expecting something more there. (less)

Good read, action paranormal plot with a futuristic setting. I haven't read the earlier books so I can't vouch for them or whether reading order is important. I can say that although there were interesting references to past storylines - the author provided what you really needed to know to navigate this one. The Devilish Devyn Meets His Bride!

I liked this one even better than the 3d book in this series. Both Devyn and Bride were such interesting and fun characters to read about. Devyn is pretty much a rake, and he's proud of it and everybody knows it. And while Bride is turned of by this at first, I loved how she completely accepted that part of him by the end. Never thought that slut could be an endearment for a man, but it totally worked.

I LOVED IT!!!!

This is the story of Devyn and Bride. We met Bride in Aleah's book and now we get her story. After looking for Aleah for years Bride finally stumbled on her scent, only to find not her once best friend but Devyn.

Bride is a vampire who lives on the Earth's surface. She has never met another of her kind and has, for some reason, started getting sick when she drinks blood. Devyn we have met in previous books; he is the womanizing Targon that tried to buy Eden in the second book. They meet when Bride recognizes the scent of her old friend on Devyn. Things get more dangerous when Bride takes the disease invested Nolan from Devyn to piss Devyn off. Now Devyn has to find where Bride is hiding Nolan before Nolan's queen arrives from her home planet. Someone is also trying to kill Bride and she doesn't know why.

The plot in general was pretty thin in this book. I don't mind reading books a bit heavy on the romance, but I do like some substantial plot. The plot basically focused around Nolan and trying to get him to tell where and when his Queen would land; in an effort to stop the virus that Nolan is carrying from wiping out all of Earth. There wasn't much to it. Most of the book focuses on Bride trying to piss off Devyn and Devyn trying to get into Bride's pants. It was also a bit weird that there are all of these alien races on Earth and suddenly Showalter has to throw a vampire in there. I mean where did that come from? Was she worried about missing the current "everyone loves vampires" trend in books?

Bride was very immature for a ages old vampire. Mostly she came off as a brat and was not likable at all. Devyn is an admitted womanizer and most of the time was a jerk. I think Devyn's character was supposed to add some humor to the book; mostly though he was just irritating. Devyn's sense of humor reminds of a hormone ridden teenage boy and really wasn't all that funny. I was actually looking forward to reading more about Devyn, but his back story ended up not being all that interesting.

Showalter's story between Devyn and Bride mimicked the storyline of the previous books. Feisty girl meets arrogant alpha male. Male wants girl, girl resists. Girl can't resist anymore, male gets her then realizes he can't live without her. Boring. This could have been forgiven if there was tension between the characters or decent sex scenes. Unfortunately Devyn and Bride didn't seem to have much chemistry and the sex scenes were uncreative and boring.

In addition to all of the above the scanty plotline about the Queen arriving is left wide open. If I had to hedge my bets I would say the next book in the series is about Dallas falling for the alien Queen...but that is just a guess on my part. I guess I will never know, because I don't plan on continuing to read this series. I don't like any of the characters and the world building (as well as the plot) is thin at best. There are better books out there for romance/sci-fi/paranormal. I would suggest Sunny's Monere' series for those interested in steamy scenes with paranormal races. (less)

Unlike most vampires, Bride McKells grew up on the Earth's surface not knowing her past or never having met any of her kind. She had to learn to control her powers and feed on her own. She did a pretty good job of it, once she knew when to stop and not completely drain the people she fed from. She didn't whine or pity herself and tried to resolve her problems on her own. I respected her character for it. She searched for other vampires while learning what she could via vampire novels and romance books. Bride might have been naive in some regards, but, she was strong, intelligent and resourceful. However, her feedings were beginning to make her sick and her powers were growing. She really did need to find another vampire. Her life began to change when she smelled a familiar scent. A scent belonging to a long lost friend, Bride's only friend, Aleaha. A scent that led her to Devyn.

When Bride and Devyn met, it was instant chemistry. Bride tried to ask him about Aleaha, but he was evasive and flirty. When Bride tried to use her vampiric powers of persuasion on him, they didn't work. Devyn felt it and realized she was a vampire and his interest waned. After all, he already bedded a vampire or two. But still, her ability to resist him intrigued him, not to mention, she was beautiful. When she attempted a more forceful approach, to gain the information about Aleaha, he used his powers, to immobilize her. Needless to say, she was pissed and vowed to get even. Thus, began a fun and exciting battle of wills. I had a fun time reading these two trying to one up the other. It was also interesting, to watch thier reactions when they realized, there fates were entertwined.

Overall, I love this series and this book was no exception. The characters were engaging. I love that the author also had reoccuring characters from the previous books. I found the plot to be entertaining. While there was and is an underlining and overall plot to the series, this book was more about Devyn and Bride connecting and discovering thier love, the truth to her past, and the miracle of her blood. I felt the world Gena Showalter created was exciting and mysterious, yet crediable. But, my favorite aspect of the story was the cat and mouse games and the sexual tension between Bride and Devyn. There chemistry and challenges were the meat of the story. This book can be read as a stand alone, but I recommend reading the series. You wont be diappointed. Seduce The Darkness is a fun and exciting escape.

For it's smut genre, I thought it was pretty creative with incorporating vampires and aliens into the same plot. The premise of the story was nicely done, you have the "tortured" prince and a vampire who suffers from amnesia. 2 troubled people slam into each other, and everything they least expect seems to happen to them. I decided to give this series a try since this book is currently (for another day or two) a free online read at Pocket After Dark. So, the upside here is that it was the entire book (they also offer sample chapters of books there) and I got to try out a new author for free. The downside is that (a) I had to read it at my computer, which can be a little annoying, and (b) I was thrown into the middle of the series with book #4.

Coming into it at book 4, there were some pretty obvious goings on that...more I decided to give this series a try since this book is currently (for another day or two) a free online read at Pocket After Dark. So, the upside here is that it was the entire book (they also offer sample chapters of books there) and I got to try out a new author for free. The downside is that (a) I had to read it at my computer, which can be a little annoying, and (b) I was thrown into the middle of the series with book #4.

Coming into it at book 4, there were some pretty obvious goings on that I had missed from the previous books. I'm torn between saying that I caught up pretty quickly and mentioning that a lot of the info on previous missions and hook-ups were given to you as a big, fat information dump. Also, seeing as it is book 4, there's a large cast of characters. I didn't have problems keeping the characters straight exactly, but I did keep forgetting who was hooked up with who. It wasn't, by any means, insurmountable, but I did have a couple of moments where I mentally had to go back and try to remember who was doing what with who.

Now, our main characters. I will admit that I liked Devyn's total man-whore personality. The guy can and will seduce anything that moves. After his rigid and cold upbringing, it's one of the things he's embraced whole-heartedly to help him gain control of his life. He's also a rather heartless killer if the situation calls for it.

Bride confused me a bit. On one hand she came across as desperate and living on the edge. She's the only vampire she knows of and has no one to turn to when her body starts failing her. Then she does a complete turnaround and becomes this sultry, devil-may-care siren who throws herself into her relationship with Devyn. In some ways I felt like that wasn't explained well and I was left looking around and thinking I'd missed something. Which maybe I did. Who knows?

Did I enjoy the book? Hell yeah. It doesn't take itself too seriously. It's hot. Dev is just about the biggest ass on the planet, which of course makes him catnip to me. It's fast-paced, bloody and full of aliens. Would I have enjoyed it more if I had read through from the beginning of the series? Probably, but I never felt so out of the loop that I couldn't keep up.

In short, if you're looking for a light read with hot sex, you might want to check this one out.

I give Bride total props for being able to see past Devyn's less than chaste past. Personally, I wouldn't have put the time into a relationship with him, but to each his own. They're actually well-suited for one another, since he's freakishly attached to Dallas and Bride is freakishly attached to Aleaha/Macy. I got lost a few times, though. Devyn, a collector of women tries to make Bride his new conquest, but fails. Devyn also happens to be an AIR agent (alien intervention and removal) who has a female coworker named Macy who turns out to be Bride's friend Aleaha. The current AIR case is dealing with Nolan another type of otherworlder that is a host to a live alien virus infecting people on Earth with the eventual destruction of Earth on the horizon. Nolan has escaped custody only to be nabbed by Bride who wants answers from Devyn on vampires because in their meeting each other he tells her that he has met other vampires so she is not the only one. Bride displays some unique powers in obtaining Nolan and takes him back to her apartment in the hopes to negotiate with Devyn to find out more about her kind and ultimately about herself. Devyn and fellow agents are able to track down bride, Bride meets Macy again, their friendship is restored, however Nolan escapes again. He promised to help AIR agents find his queen so the source of the alien infection can be terminated and the spread can be slowed. Nolan was healed by Bride's special blood, so naturally AIR wanted to study Bride and Nolan. Eventually Devyn and Bride form a lovers relationship then inadvertently become married, but Devyn's struggles with his past and womanizing is dealt with, he wants to spend forever with the only love of his life. She agrees one evening to help Devyn and AIR infiltrate and negotiate buying vampires from illegal slavers, who capture otherworlders and sell them on a special black market. They go undercover to check out the latest in the slave ring, and go in hopes of purchasing and freeing two vampires in exchange for studying the healing effects of their blood. Bride encounters a vampire warrior named Mckells who is Bride's betrothed. He is determined to have her back and take her underground, the secret world of the vampires. Devyn and McKells start to fight for the right of keeping Bride. She agrees to go to the underworld with McKells as long as he will tell her about her people and show where she lived for a short time before secretly being released on the surface to save her life. Devyn, unwilling to part with his one true love goes with her. McKells' and Devyn's agenda is disrupted when the king of the vampires learns of Bride's arrival. The King arrests both Devyn and McKells on ridiculous charges to learn more about Bride and keep her as a prisoner in the underworld in his control. Bride learns to trust her many powers and that she is a special kind of feared vampire species that has limitless powers. Bride harnesses these powers to save McKells and Devyn and agrees to stay in the underworld because she is afraid of what she would do to Devyn because she has no control over these powers. AIR was able to track Devyn, rescue him and Bride and bring them back on the surface. Another otherworlder agent is able to help Bride lock up her powers so she can function and stay with her husband.
The world Showalter created is creative, the romance between Devyn and Bride was the highlight of this book, however the ending to this book was rushed and the result of the escape back to the surface was not shown to the reader in regards to McKells, the vampire King and the rest of the underworld. Hopefully questions are answered in the next book.

Bride McKells lives on Earth during a time after the great alien war when otherworlders and humans have learned to coexist in a peaceful but strained relationship. The world is vastly different than it was before, with real fruit, non-cloned animals and precious water extraordinarily hard if not impossible to come by. Bride McKells's vampiric memory of the centuries is quite acute and she misses the way things were before. Most of all, she misses the child that she befriended then mysteriously lost long ago. When she runs into Devyn, and smells her friend all over him, a game of cat and mouse is begun. Bride will do almost anything to find her friend and just might rip Devyn's head off once she finally does.

Devyn is King of the Targons. He is a womanizer, specializing in having women from different worlds. If he has been with a woman from one world before, he has no interest in being with another from that world. Devyn has already been with a vampire. Two in fact. He has no interest in Bride; yet, why can't he stop thinking about her? Despite his convictions, Devyn can't seem to get his mind off this beautiful, dark haired woman. What will become of this proud man once he discovers that his heart might be the most traitorous thing out there.

Amidst a plot full of romance, mystery and suspense, Showalter shows us what it means to live in a destroyed world and what love and passion are really about. As I mentioned previously, passion plays a large part in SEDUCE THE DARKNESS, but the story surrounding this is really great as well. As Bride and Devyn discover each other and the mysteries of their own lives, they also find themselves fighting a great danger. An alien race with a horribly infectious disease carried in their blood. If allowed to roam Earth free, their disease could infect the entire planet in a very short time, turning every human into a vicious cannibal shortly before dying.

As you can see, Showalter does an amazing job of constructing a story. Usually, you can tell when a story is built to be a great romance and when it is built to be a great action story, full of adrenaline pumping plot. Showalter built SEDUCE THE DARKNESS in such a way, that the book encompasses both of these with really no discernible barrier between the two. As I was reading, I actually thought a couple of times, "Wow, this is a great romance. Wow, this is a great suspenseful read. Wait, which is it?" This is a wonderful book and a great story that flows well and creates a fantastic rounded story.

I absolutely loved the character development in SEDUCE THE DARKNESS. Bride is, of course, my favorite character as I usually love the heroines the most. She is strong but not without her weak points. She has a fantastic personality and best of all she is quite witty with a great amount of humor. Showalter has created a very fun character that was a pleasure to read.

When you've got the strong and witty Bride, you've got to have the unreachable and yet highly desirable Devyn. Despite her best efforts, Bride can't help but to find herself attracted to the tall, beautiful warrior. Why shouldn't she? Everyone else is. She refuses just to be another one of his conquests, however, and this irritates Devyn to no end. Dealing with his own demons, Devyn finds solace in bedding women but it's possible that his charm and fantastic looks might not be enough for Bride. As with Bride, Showalter has imbued Devyn with a great deal of complexity, adding multiple layers of depth to this character that makes him an absolute pleasure to read. While we get to enjoy the passionate side of him, we also get to learn more about his past and how he came to be where he is now. We get to watch him fight, love, learn and unravel the mysteries of his own past. He is a fantastic character on multiple levels and aside from the strong and passionate Bride, he is the reason this book is as great as it is.

Somehow, Showalter has created the perfect duo between Bride and Devyn. Where their passionate relationship will end up I won't tell you. Be content with the fact, however, that you're in for quite a treat. Even though they are fictional characters on paper, Showalter has given them so much life that the sparks between the two can be felt just as if they were staring at each other across the room right in front of you. Her ability to create realism in her writing and make the story leap off the written page really helps to make her top notch.

Just as Showalter adds depth to Devyn and Bride, she also has created a great deal of depth and complexity within the actual story itself. Multiple layers within the story and multiple side character plots flesh out the book. Really, if you like the Paranormal genre at all, it felt like there was something for everyone here.

As you can tell, I really loved SEDUCE THE DARKNESS. This is the first book by Gena Showalter that I have read and I'm quite glad that I did. SEDUCE THE DARKNESS is an Alien Huntress novel, with other stories before it that follow related characters. While there are some previous books, I don't believe that not having read them will make SEDUCE THE DARKNESS any less wonderful. I haven't read the other books and Showalter does such an amazing job of discreetly filling us in with what has already happened in her world that SEDUCE THE DARKNESS really works quite well as a stand alone novel.(less)

I gave this a three because the plot was exciting and suspenseful and I couldn't put it down. However--and this is a big one-- I didn't like the hero, Devyn, at all! He was egotistical, obnoxious, hateful, self-centered... well I could go on. He didn't even redeem himself by finally falling in love with the heroine. I think I've found my new go-to author for whenever I'm in the mood for a great, fun, and sexy story! As far as romances go, it has none of that typical, melodramatic feel. It's cheeky, over-the-top, and heavy on the sexy - in all of the best ways. Gena's sense of humor is great and it definitely adds something special to the interactions of the hero, Devyn, and heroine, Bride.

Found on the street of New Chicago, she was forced to survive thru the foster systems. Met her only best friend Aleaha, a shape-shifter, and lost her, she roamed the earth for decades with the hope to find her Leah one day. Until, she found Leah scent and followed…but what she found was not Leah. Instead she found her true mate Devyn, the King of Targon.

Devyn, the slut (but I still love you). The walking-talking promiscuity found Bride or she found him, rather. His super sense told him that she wasn’t human but vampire. But since he once had a vampire princesses in his bed, he wasn’t really interested in her.. so he think. Devyn found his match. He possessed special abilities of commanding other people energy and freeze them at will. But what he doesn’t know surprised him.
Bride processed many special abilities the most powerful of the vampire, and later found that that was the reason she was taken away from the vampire world, to protect her from assassins. He fell in love, madly in love no matter how much he tried to resist in the beginning.
Many of the older books’ characters also present in this book. I love Dallas, who became Devyn’s best friend. (Note to Miss Gena – I hope he gets his own book). Mia Snow’s still my mini meanie-queen. Nolan saved and cured by Bride’s blood. And OBTW this story seemed to be living on. We’ll have to see how his queen is to play out. Dallas met her and fell head over heels over her? --I also love the way Miss Gena introduce the next book’s characters especially Victor McKell. – He was introduced to them at the slave auction. He was looking for her, has been for decades. Supposedly he was to be Bride’s groom -- hence the McKell’s Bride tattoo on her wrist, Dahh. Her real name was Maureen (how normal - I’m glad she kept the name Bride). After they went to the underworld of the vampire, defeated the vampire king and won. Bride and Devyn lived HEA.

Again, I love this book but the only complaint I have – WHAT HAPPENED TO DEVYN’S KILT?

I had grabbed this from the library not realizing that it was from the Alien Hunteress novels. (Another impulse grab from me) Shortly after I started reading it, something was nagging at me. It seemed familiar. Then a bright burst appeared and I remembered that I had read a short story, Temp Me Eternally, from the Deep Kiss of Winter book that was shared with Kresley Cole's short story from her Immortals After Dark novels. I got hooked on the Alien Huntress series after reading the Lords of the Underworld and loving Showalter's style.
