This is the second novel in Kava's Maggie O'Dell series. The villain in this novel is the serial killer who tortured Maggie prior to the events in the first book in the series, a man who has haunted her nightmares and stolen her sleep and peace of mind. At the end of book 1, we learned that he had escaped from prison, so it was no surprise to find him here. We spend a little time in his mind, although not while he's actually torturing or killing anyone, as Kava again skillfully employs multiple

WOW! This was a hold your breath, edge of your seat, cliffhanger!!!!!
From back cover:

FBI Special Agent Maggie O'Dell tracked him for two years, finally ending their game of cat and mouse. Now Albert Stucky has escaped from prison...and he is setting up a new game for Maggie O'Dell.

Just reviewed the incorrect book! This is the book I recently finished and wasn't impressed with the change to Maggie's character from the first book. I didn't like how she became frozen in fear and indecisive over and over again. Very frustrating for me after reading the first Maggie O'Dell book (which was fantastic!). Ms. Kava did attempt to turn the character around in the very last chapter but it was too little too late. I have started #3 in the Maggie O'Dell series hoping that she will

after projecting the villain character of this novel as a terrible psychopath, I was expecting a neck to neck fight between the viiain 'albert stuckey" and the heroeine meggie o' dell, but nothing happens afterwrad...and the claimax is very disappointing.
Instead of fighting directly with maggie why, albert stucky choses some bar girls, pizza delivery gals as his victims is a big ? mark.

I read A Perfect Evil a while ago at A.'s recommendation and after that I couldn't resist getting the others in the series. While A Perfect Evil had a romance subplot this story is more of a thriller and the romance is really very secondary.
Some say Maggie O’Dell has lost it – lost the professional edge that makes her one of the best criminal profilers, and lost her ability to think clearly. Since capturing Stucky she’s been walking a tightwire, battling nightmares and the guilt over More...

I felt this was definitely one of the best books I've read by Kava thus far, and only the second of which I read the immediate predecessor before reading the next one, which certainly improved the reading experience.
Some of the characters from the first book in the series, A Perfect Evil, make a return in this one, so there is a level of familiarity. What is also great about this book is that it answers the big lingering question about the first book, why Agent O'Dell is so haunted by her More...

Started off well but I got distracted during the middle but the ending was still predictable. Like the writing style though as the characters have been developed well. Readable but don't expect a real page turner once you are past the first couple of chapters. Not one of those that I would keep to read again. "And Tully knew it was no coincidence that he had chosen to start again, close to Agent Margaret O'Dell's new home" Exactly.

This is my first Maggie O’Dell mystery. She is a profiler for the FBI and she’s being hunted by the criminal that got away. She is joined by a sheriff that she worked with in a previous novel. I’ll have to read the others in the series and catch. Maggie is an interesting character.

Book 2 kept me up reading just as book one did. When you think you might know whats going on, there always seems to be a twist and turn...but nothing one can't keep up with. Kava has a way of making you look behind you even hours after putting the book down! Love her work!

Much better than her first book! More intense, more depth and character to the people, as well as more violence which was just at my limit of tolerance, but I still enjoyed the book very much. The underlying story in the first book is resolved in this one, fortunately. Don't think I could read another book about this Collector guy! Looking forward to moving on with the series and reading the next one!

Much better than the first. The tone and maturity is evident in Kava’s sophomore novel as the rookie mistakes (i.e.: the amateurish and out-of-place romance scenes) are replaced with a more tightly plotted thriller/murder mystery. Although Nick Morelli makes a reappearance in this book, Maggie O’Dell takes center stage and her character is much more developed than the first. Will continue on with the series

Book 2. in the Maggie O'Dell series. Albert Stuckey, a serial killer Maggie tracked for 2 years and who left her traumatized after almost killing her, has escaped while being transferred to a high security facility. Maggie is sure he will be coming for her and she is right. She also gets a new partner and meets up with Nick Morelli again. Great story, the stuff good thrillers are made of. On to No. 3.

Overall, I enjoyed this. I think it dragged in some place. A little too much emphasis on Maggie's paranoia and everyone worrying about her. Interesting ending though I pretty much had it figured out.
Just took me a while to get through this, but I did have a lot going on the past two weeks that interfered with my reading time.

This was a great booka nd am pleased to have reread the book.
It is a very clever idea that a series killer who plays mental gamees with an FBI agent to make her feel responsible for the murders he carries out
How would you feel if the waitress who served you in a restaurant was tortured and killed soley based on the fact that she had served you?"
What a mind game and the writer was brilliant in thinking up this idea

This woman was born to write. The book is not complex, it's an easy read, difficult to put down, and it's really fun to see how easily she sets up the beginning of a plot for the next book

Ms. Kava's second Maggie O'Dell book grabbed my attention and kept me enthralled from beginning to end. Albert Stucky is out of prison and playing his evil game with Maggie again. Nick Morrelli puts in an appearance as well. Ms. Kava is definitely honing her craft.

Maggie O'dell is a terrible heroine. Not even a likable character. I like suspense in my suspense novels and Alex Kava just doesn't have what it takes.

I was booked to narrate the later Alex Kava Maggie O'Dell series, and now they're having me record some of the earlier books as well. I loved this one and it really gives so much depth to Maggie O'Dell's character. Kava is an expert at creating an atmosphere thick with emotional weight. There's mystery, yes, but the real story is the lives of the characters and what they go through. I highly recommend this series. Start from the beginning. The novels change and progress as the series goes on.

It didn't catch me at first but as I stuck with it, I was interested to know what was going to happen next. A bit graphic for my tastes but I'll try another one by her.

I liked this book featuring FBI profiler Maggie O'Dell even better than the first one. She is tracking down the serial killer that has haunted her nightmares.
