The Ocean Between Us authored by Rhonday H. Bishop and illustrated by Cass Barth is the story of a precious and precocious little girl named Sophia who is left with the job of making her grandparents smile while her Mommy is away serving in the military. Bishop’s portrayal of Sophia is both realistic and respectful, especially since she based her characters on the many military families that she met as a childcare professional at an air force base.
