Finally! After begging their parents for ballet lessons, Ivy and Bean finally get what they want...well, not exactly. Much to their surprise, it turns out ballet lessons do not include karate chops and roundhouse kicks to the villain's heart. The girls have no interest in learning how to dance gracefully, but they promised their parents they would finish the entire ballet...more

I dare say, I have very little to complain about in this one. :P I am almost tempted to give it 4 stars, but looking at my list of 4-star books, my enjoyment of this one just doesn't match up. Certainly I would have rated it 3 1/2 stars if I could.

In this book, Ivy and Bean are convinced that they will love ballet, and they beg their parents for lessons. Not surprisingly, they hate it. Fortunately, their parents had the foresight to allow them to take lessons only under one condition: The girls...more

i liked this book becuase it starts off in the middle of the story then tells the begging. Also this book shows what Ivy and Bean went through when they went to ballet. For example on page 1 Ivy states that its grandmas fault for sending her the book of ballet.Another example is that Ivy and Bean kept tripping in ballet class and they had to watch Dulce do all the moves (pg 26-27).also Ivy and Bean got stuck with being the squids (pg 34-35). If you love a funny book about two girls who love to try...more

Normally, I don't review children's books, but I've made an exception (yes, they do happen). I remember buying a set of Ivy + Bean books for The Girl from Diary of an Eccentric because one of the books had to do with dinosaur fossils and I had read on someone's blog (not sure who) that these books were fantastic. The Girl, suffice to say, loved them and told me all about the straws up the nose and other little tidbits from her books.

In Ivy + Bean: Doomed to Dance, Ivy and Bean are typical second...more

ivy and bean is a really humorous and funny book. it all started when these girls read a book about a ballet called gissele. they started to like it and they joined ballet classes. the day when they went it was a torture flips, balancing etc. there was one girl who they were jealous of. she did every single of her move smoothly and steady. one their teacher told them that they are going to do a play the bad girl turned out to be the princess and the girls were squids. one they they got an idea....more

I only rate a book one star if I think it was really bad. I feel bad for the book when I rate it one star. So here is the nicest summary that I can give, it is not the best book in the series. Ivy and bean are reading a book about dance moves and decide they want to go to a dance class. They get signed up and it turns out completly differenty than they expected. They thought they where going to learn the moves the book talked about and they weren't learning anything that was in the book. Then fo...more

Very 2nd grade. I haven't read any of the other books but this one was really silly. An easy reader with no real plot.

Ivy and Bean doomed to dance was a nice book. The main characters are Ivy and Bean. Bean is just lazy she starts a ballerina lesson/club and when it starts to get hard she gives, so techically she was acting like a quiiter. Ivy is consider a geek and she is the leader of her and Bean pack. Bean is Ivy's sidekick.
My favorite part is when Ivy and Bean are reading and Bean's mom takes the book the away and Ivy said how parents always pressure them to read and when they finally read parents take a...more

Ivy and Bean join "Just Grace" and Clementine as the new fun characters in chapter books for kids in grades 2 to 4. They have big ideas that are just a little bit wrong much of the time. In this book, the girls decide to take ballet so they can be fierce warrior dancers--and beg until their moms agree. Ballet class is not what they imagined--it is boring beyond belief, and when they are cast as dancing squids in an underwater wedding ballet, they decide they need to get out. Should they run away...more

This book had a lot of humor in it. i just finished it. From this book you can learn that running away is more scary than you think as fun. it reminds me of a graphic novel i read last year. There was a lot of dancing in it. i just love it. I bet you'll love it too. The good part about this book is that if you don' get something just keep reading it then it will make more sence. Easy. The good part about it is that it only took me two days to read it, and I'm not a good reader. That is why I'm r...more

I think, maybe the words could be more descriptive, the book could have been longer, and the chapters could be longer, I guess. I'm not really into this book's theme, it has a lot of words that should b chagd. Or, the author could just make two versions of the series, for younger and older children. It makes sense, so, I understand the book. That is what makes it oky for me. Others, older than me, wouldn't think that. They'd probably not even read this book, I would understand that, too...more

I think it was an amaizing book (to me)! i loved it!

it was about two girls named Ivy and Bean.they take a ballet class for the first time. they hate it so much because the girls in the class is better then they are. they have a dance and they are squids.wierd.so they trie to brake/sprain there arm and that didnt go so well as much as they thought.then they trie to get sick and that didnt work then they trie to run away and that didnt go well either. well then on you got to read cause i dont wan...more

Don’t we all know kids who have begged, and I mean begged, for something? A puppy? a new toy? a glittering pair of shoes? Ivy and Bean, stars of the wildly popular chapter book series by Berkeley author Annie Barrows, are sure that ballet class is the perfect activity for them. They have seen amazing pictures of ballet dancers - Giselle kicks her pointed toe so fiercely toward the duke that she’s surely going to snap his head off! What kid wouldn’t want to do that?! So Ivy and Bean beg and beg a...more

What happens when you are in second grade and your read a book about ballet where Giselle dances the prince to death. If you are Ivy and Bean you beg for dance lessons.
Of course, reality is boring, but they promised they wouldn't quit. Then they find out that for the recital they have to be really boring squids. It's time to run away from home. A class trip to the aquarium intervenes.
Ivy & Bean are the new Ramona Quimblys.

I read this to Una and Fred secretly listened in. Like the other Ivy and Bean books we've read, we enjoyed this one but the girls were really disappointed that (view spoiler)[they didn't get to see the dance concert at the end (hide spoiler)] and I must admit it seemed structurally flawed to me too. I was going to give the book two stars but, aw. It's Ivy and Bean. They're just so cute.

Number 8 is still my favourite.

This book is about two girls named Ivy and Bean. They think they will love battle, but they end up hating it! It takes place at school, at home, at the aquarium, and dance class. I think they are in second grade and it is fall. They take battle because they think they that they can be in the battle Giselle without practice. They want to kick the Prince in the face in the battle Giselle.
Ashley
It was such a funny story. They think ballet will be about kicking people. So they joined. But insted it was about slow moves and nothing they expeceted. Then the next day the teacher says the will be performing. Ivy and Bean were the squids. They hated it. So on a field trip they decided to hide in an aquarium. Bad IDEA!

My daughter loves these books. I don't quite get it, but whatever. Her first grade teacher read one to the class and she's loved them since. We read this one together and it was just okay. Hoping she will find another set of books she will love more, but I'm happy she's a reader.

These girls are hellions. The best part is definitely when they try to get sick by rubbing other kids rashes and asking people to cough and sneeze on them. Was a teensy bit concerned when they tried to break their arms. Fortunately, they didn't succeed.

Hope these books won't plant ideas in my kids heads about running away, lying, and other schemes. I hope they are humorous lessons about why we don't do these things.

Lot's of laughs from both girls- they enjoy the antics of fun-loving Bean and Ivy.

super cute - I'm doing an Ivy and Bean Party Program a the library and this is such a great book. The girls initially decide that they want to be in ballet, but come to find that they stink at it. Fun with a little bit of science tied in.
Little Miss and the Legomeister
Little Miss grabbed this at random, searching for a book on CD to listen to.

She hasn't read any Ivy and Bean before, but she really enjoyed this story. She checked out another one, but hasn't listened to it yet.

#6 in the Ivy and Bean series where the girls choose to join ballet but then, when they have to play squids in a recital, don't much care for it. Pretty good but not as good as the first books in series.
Liljana Trenova
I love this book. It's a great example for my daughter of two girls who are in misery because of their own wishes, but they honor their promise to not complain and finish what they've started.
Debbie
I like the IVY AND BEAN series as it's a fun read. I think it's good for boys as well as girls. It gives the child a sense of accomplishment because they read a chapter book that they can finish. I like the antics of Ivy and Bean. Well done Annie Barrow and nice illustrations Sophie Blackall.

So cute! Evienne and I are read this book and now we want to get the rest in the series! Cool fact: these are written by the niece of the woman who wrote the Guernsey Literary & Potato Peel Society!
Karol
I could feel Ivy and Bean's excitement when they started ballet class and their disappointment when it wasn't going as planned. The story moved along in genuine Ivy & Bean fashion.
Chyna Roger
I loved the Ivy and Bean series because it told a story of two friends who had a great relationship and what they did together and how they weren't always friends.
Paige
It was not the best I think that dance docent reflect beans personality maybe hip hop but not ballet .but as any other bean &ive book it was good
Tara
The Ivy and Bean books are witty, short reads that are great as starter read-aloud chapter books. Ivy & Bean have great character.

Ivy and Bean go to ballet class. They don't like it at first so they run away. The ballet teacher finds them and tells their mothers. Then they eventually like the ballet class.

“When grown-ups asked you to sit in a circle, they were usually about to tell you something you didn't want to hear. Ms. Aruba-Tate, Ivy and Bean's second-grade teacher, was forever gathering them in a circle for bad news. Like, the class fish died over the weekend. Or, everyone has to start using real punctuation. Or, the pencil sharpener is off-limits. Circles meant trouble.” 2 people liked it
