Mystery Light fans - taste great but not real (ful)filling
The 11th book in the Needlecraft Mystery series.
Betsy and her good friend Jill go out horseback riding and Betsy has an accident landing her in the hospital with a broken leg. When she is released she has to stay off her leg for a few weeks while it heals and Goddy - her good friend and the manager of her store Crewel World - takes over her duties. This means he will have to set up and run the store booth at the Embroiderers Guild Convention in MPLS.

I've really been enjoying this series as a light-hearted good read, that often surprise me with the 'whodunnit' or backstory for the crime. So I was really looking forward to another installment in the series and *very* disappointed to say the least in the fact that there was only one 'surprise' in the book and it was revealed in the first half of the book.
I love Goddy and Betsy, but I've got to say that I could see everything happening a looooong ways off in this one. I had to force...more

Ferris just keeps getting better and better. Though I figured out "whodunnit" early on, I still enjoyed the antics of Betsy Devonshire and friends. All the series regulars are back and true to form. Goddy must take over sleuthing and store management duties as Betsy is laid up with a broken leg (and an unusual house guest). He gets off to a slow start investigating a theft from the Embroidery Guild of America but soon gains his sea legs. There's plenty of small-town happenings to keep ...more

This is one of the series of needlecraft mysteries featuring Betsy Devonshire, the owner of Crewel World, in Excelsior, Minnesota. I received this particular title a few years ago for Christmas, and forgot I even had it.
In this installment, Betsy is asked to investigate the disappearance of a local businessman who was last seen at a national needleworkers’ convention, accepting a large check resulting from a fundraising idea by the Embroiderers’ Guild of America. However, Betsy...more

One of the latest of her “Needlecraft Mystery” series, most of which I’ve read – and also one of the trendy series that takes a person (actually, a woman) with some hobby/skill/craft and builds cozy mysteries around her and it. Here, the amateur sleuth owns a needlework shop, and every now and then the narrative stops short to explain some particular needleworking technique. But it’s a very fun and creative series (hah!) – as good as the cookie lady one, and much better than the tea ...more

This is her latest title in the needlepoint series. It came out last December. Her newest one is due next December Thai Die. Betsy Devonshire, the needlepoint store owner/sleuth is barely in this one. She conveniently breaks her ankle or leg can't remember in the first chapter. The weight of the plot is then transferred on Godwin, her trustful friend and employee at the needle shop. It's fun to watch Godwin try to emulate Betsy and Ferris does try to makes this endeavor interesting but with mixe...more

This was a disappointing book. The main character breaks a leg and is confined through most of it in her apartment. She has her assistant do most of the sleuthing, so there's a lot of repetition. Plus, there are many point of view shifts, which I found annoying.

Betsy Devonshire has to solve a mystery but is immobilized by a broken leg. So she has to rely on her best employee and enthusiastic novice sleuth, Godwin. Interesting little puzzle.

This was an OK book. It's an easy read. Some of the details of the story are a bit too weird to be believable.

I always enjoy this cozy mystery series. Especially since I use to teach needle crafts at one time.

Betsy does it again...with reasonable thinking and good questions, she is able to sort through the mystery and you can too. I am reading all of Monica Ferris' books in order because I like her style and they are very quick reads...2 days each.

Another good installment in Ferris' needlework mystery series. Betsy is actually trapped in her apartment with a broken leg, a la Rear Window. Her binoculars for this particular mystery are her friends, who go out and interview and find great clues that lead to the answer of who killed Bob Germaine and stole the Heart Fund check. More fun desciptions of Excelsior and surrounding Mpls. area.

The whole storyline about the crow was totally convoluted. Not enough time in the store doing projects with the girls. AND Goddy's character was really one dimensional this time around. That is all. But thanks for letting me read it, Sharon!
