This book introduced me to many foods I had never eaten and a few I hope never to eat again.
Quick-cooking barley is toasty and chewy. Brown rice noodles are pleasingly glutinous and even better than the white chow fun style noodles I'm used to. And it turns out whole wheat pasta is a lot better than it used to be. I'm definitely going to add these foods to my diet. Farro, spelt, and millet? Probably not. When cooks want to revive antique foodstuffs I often find myself thinking there More...

For those who want to incorporate a variety of whole grains into your everyday diet, this book seems really great.
But as a vegetarian, I didn't find myself wanting to try any of the recipes. Lorna Sass has done other cookbooks that were vegetarian and vegan, and when I recently checked out a couple of these whole grain cookbooks of hers from the library I wrongly assumed that they too would be more vegetarian friendly. C Really disappointing. While many of the recipes sounded interesting, more of them contained meat than I would have liked, and there was the additional of some prepared ingredients I didn't prefer.

This book was excellent! I look forward to several recipes that use different kinds of grains besides your basic white rice. They're simple and healthy.

I liked some of the recipes in the book, especially the ones where you make a base combination of ingredients and then have recipes that use the various bases to turn out different kinds of muffins, cookies, scones, etc. I can't wait to try them.
Recipes that caught my eye:
Fruity-Nutty Wild Rice and Turkey Salad
Chai-Spiced Oatmeal.
Wheat and Oat Muffin Mix
Apricot-Orange Muffins (using the base as a start)
Versatile Mix for Cookies, Crumbles, and Pie Crust More...

Great cookbook! I love that they're fast recipes using whole grains. Makes it much easier to incorporate them into our diet.

I can't rate this until I try some of the recipes. But there are some good ones here.

This is another great one that focuses more on quick-cooking grains and one dish meals.
