In honor of Vicky Cristina Barcelona. Great in depth (Or as indepth as the evasive Allen ever gets anyway) look at Allen's career. Despite the fact that he claims to never watch his films once they're completed Allen's recall is nothing short of startling and unlike the similarly mammoth Altman On Altman no film in Allen's Career is given a short shrift. He raises a spirited defense for even his most loathed films. Great Read.

Totally forgot that Annie Hall was originally a murder mystery... Not a whole lot of earth-shattering insights into Allen's style, but some interesting info on how he goes about his process with almost complete artistic freedom. There really needs to be an updated version of this book that covers the most recent 15 years of his work, but that doesn't seem too likely to happen. Either way, it's hard not to hang on the words of a person who almost never gives interviews, even if all you learn is t...more
This book get's you fully into his work and life behind the scenes and in front of the cameras. you see his thought process who inspired him. His advice and outlook on his life and career. He is his own worst critic and comes off as unsentimental though thatis exactly what his films inspire. This film gave me plenty of inspiration and scarily i found that we have the same outlook on certain subjects and instances. i guess there are worse to be in common with. He is a genius (Though i know he wou...more

I've only seen five woody allen movies (Zelig, Annie Hall, Reconstructing Harry, Sweet and Lowdown, and Match Point) but I feel like I've seen them all. I don't know if thats a good thing, but in reading these interviews between the film maker and the Swedish film critic Stig Bjorkman wherein the two go through each and every WA movie from 'Take The Money and Run' to 'Manhattan Murder Mystery', I got a clear sense of what was happening in those movies. Frankly, that wasn't so interesting, and ki...more
For the die-hard fans only. Touches on personal details and is blunt about the circumstences surrounding his "September" re-shoot. But not a lot revealed, just some insight into a great artistic mind. Woody is casual and easy going in these interviews, if not entirely forthcoming. A fun read for anyone familiar with his films without having much context for the motivations behind them.

برای...more
This is a great book if you are interested in film-making. Outside of his albeit strange personal life, I truly enjoy his artistic abilities, specifically his screen-writing ability. I wanted to get an inside scoop of what is in his head as he creates. Interesting read about someone who is truly passionate about their profession- not because of the money that will come from it, but because they love what they do!
I have the early version of this book, it ends after Manhattan Murder Mystery. It's a great read if you love Woody Allen films. This year ended up being the year I chose to finish watching every Woody Allen movie I hadn't seen and it was absolutely wonderful to watch one of his movies and then pick up this book and read between 5-10 pages about the movie I just watched from W.A.'s own mouth. A good book for a true fan or interested fan.
Woody Allen isn't the most self-reflective or forthcoming guy in the world, but it was still interesting to hear him to talk about his films. He goes through each one of his films in chornological order, talking about casting, filming, etc. Probably only interesting if you're obsessed with Woody Allen and have seen all of his films. Yes, I'm a dork.
