An excellent source of hundreds of proverbs and idioms from a variety of Western African languages. (Especially helpful if you’re working on, say, a novella set in the 1800s and need an authentic African quote or two.) There is a good deal of history to be uncovered among the proverbs, but as might be expected, the most entertaining and elucidating aspect of the book is Burton’s explanatory notes for each saying.
