I like to talk about all the ways I love this book, I was really disappointed with book 3 in the series even though I loved it. Reyes was keeper of pain, so I expected all kinds of painful lovemaking did I get that? Nope! Reyes needed to call 1-800-TALK-VISHOUS (BDB series) or 1-866-ASK-SHADE ( Demonica Series). I have mixed feelings about this book. It is the 4th installment in the Lords of the Underworld series and the author confirms this by stating it in her Intro. She has a few e-books on the LOTU, but they are numbered as .5, 3.5 here on GRs by ... yours truly. :-)
Enjoyed the first half of The Darkest Whisper. Sabin/Demon of Doubt came into the series after the other group of Lords rejoined their comrades--a book or so ago. They had a major falling out (1,000+ years ago) and went t...more

The Lords Of The Underworld is a fantastic paranormal series that I highly recommend. Filled with sexy, tortured heroes, sizzling love scenes and fun action-filled story lines. I enjoyed the first book The Darkest Night and loved books 2 & 3 The Darkest Pleasure & The Darkest Kiss however book 4 turned out to be my least favorite.

It’s been a while since I’ve immersed into the adventures of those sexy, angst-laden bad boy demon Lords, and I’d almost forgotten how much I love losing myself in their world.
I wasn’t too sure how I’d feel about The Darkest Whisper because Sabin (the keeper of the demon of Doubt) has never been one of my favorite Lords, but I was pleasantly surprised. As one of the LOTU leaders, he’s a total alpha who’s used to calling the shots and putting t...more

Showalter's Lords of the Underworld series is about a group of former guardians to the Gods who ages ago opened Pandora's box and unleashed hell. Unfortunately, as payment for their deeds, they were each assigned a demon from the box to inhabit them to keep the chaos unleashed in check.
After all this time the Lords have learned to live with their misdeed, however noble their thinking might have been at the time. It's not easy to keep their own personal demons in check, but they're de...more

This is my favourite book of the series so far! I loved both Sabin and Gwen, as well as the glimpses in to the other Lords lives. Especially Aeron I can't wait for his book, and I think Legion is so cute! I think I may be in the minority in this regard though.
Oh and NIX! Nix from IAD was in it briefly! I would love to have a cross over between the two series, but apparently that isn't gonna happen

I wasn't sure if i'd like this story because all previous mentions of Sabin, Keeper of Doubt, didn't make me care for him very much. He lives for war; the destruction of the Hunters is his only goal and passion. He'd sacrifice anything to win. Enter Gwen the timid, a Harpy. She and other immortal females have been captured by the Hunters to be used for breeding. The Lords save the women and Sabin finds himself drawn to her. His lust mixes with his eagerness to use her as a weapon against their c...more
Everyone doubts. We doubt ourselves and others all the time, without even realising it. It is a part of life and can ruin. Sabin is the Keeper of Doubt and has to cage his demon constantly. Not only is it annoying to some, but it can break humans to the point of suicide. Sabin has experienced the demon destroying one lover in the past, so he distances himself from all females. But then he meets Gwendolyn the Timid and rescues her from a cell. He can’t seem to stay away from her or think of anyth...more

Sabin, keeper of Doubt, will do anything to win the war between the Lords and the Hunters. He's ruthless, determined, and total prick if I'm honest. But he gets the job done. While searching the pyramids for the next artifact Sabin and his men come a across a disgusting breeding centre, and the beautiful Gwen. When Sabin sees the little firecracker in action he instantly craves her skills to help win his war, she's the perfect weapon. What he didn't count on howeve...more

About:
Series books are hard to review, mostly because once you are into a series, there is already so much backdrop to the storyline.
To make it quick and simple, in Gena Showalter's Lords of the Underworlds series, after opening Pandoras Box, a group of immortal men have been cursed to house demons for eternity. These demons are always there, always involved in their immortals thoughts and awareness. Each immortal has become one with their inner demon, the two cannot be separat...more

Thus far, this was my least fav LOTU novel. The first three captured my interest more fully. Gwen got kind of annoying. I wasn't fond of her lack of self-confidence in the beginning. Sabin didn't seem to wrestle as much with his demon as the Maddox, Lucien, and Reyes. It seemed too...cooperative? It hid from Gwen for goodness sake! I'm looking forward to Gideon's book. He's always been entertaining, and this book showed his more vulnerable side, which was nice. I'm anxious to see his HE...more
This is the fourth installment of the Lords of the Underworld series. I keep finding myself switching allegiances. I seem to like each new book better than the one before it. Gotta love that phenomenon.
This is predominately the story of Sabin, the keeper of the demon Doubt, and of Gwendolyn the Timid, a harpy. I say predominately because there are several story threads going at once. Each book pulls in the former happy couples and the ongoing issues and intrigues of the ones who...more

Wow what a difference. I mean I tend to be the type that will like a series just because I've continued to read it. I can't say I hate the series but it is far from being my favorite. Now, I have to tell you that this book and this "Lord" is far more interesting that the previous ones. I didn't expect that as Sabin is not one of the original Lords we encountered. He was one of the set that had been separated from the ones we met it the first book who currently reside in Budapest. They ...more
Finally! apparently fourth time is a charm.
After i suffered through book 1 (Maddox)and almost died of boredom in book 3 (Reyes), book 2 with Lucien somewhat okay, my stubbornness to continue this series is finally paid off.

THE DARKEST WHISPER by Gena Showalter is book four in the Lords of the Underworld series. AND…Let me clarify for the record that this was my favorite book so far! Therefore I shall be bias!
Sabin, keeper of doubt… Immortal warrior, 6ft 5in, beautiful… sexy, arrogant, stoic, vicious, all round badass and ME!… ahh… Gwen are the sovereign and ruler in this installment.
Sabin and Gwen were complete opposites… it was laughable! And you know what they say, opposites attracts! End of story… t...more

I don't know how I feel about Gwen. Usually I like if the heroine is a little timid and then toughens up but I'm still on the fence with her. I mean, being a Harpie is in her blood. It's a part.
I liked Sabin as the keeper of Doubts. Whenever that demon was let loose, I always got this intense feeling. Like, if this were a movie the camera would zoom in on the target.
I love that Gena keeps the rest of the characters an active part of her books. Unlike a certain other ser...more

I have to hand it to Gena Showalter, I've always been happy with her romance and paranormal romance books and she keeps getting better with each publishing. The Darkest Whisper is no exception. I've been a fan of the Lords of the Underworld series from the beginning, though I've heard some readers be critical that the premise is very reminiscent of J.R. Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood series and Lara Adrian's Midnight Breed series (and others). Honestly, that's true in that t...more

Boooooooooooooorrrrrrrriiiiing.
I probably wrote this before, but I'll write it again.
When your supporting characters are more interesting than the main ones, you have a slight problem.
I am usually very favourable towards the Lords of the Underworld series, but this book came way to close to "same sht, different day" for me.
I expected more. More from Sabin; More from Gwen (even though the fact that she is a harpy was kind of interesting for a minute.... the...more

The Darkest Whisper is Showalter's latest installment in the Lords of the Underworld series. This book is dedicated to Sabin who houses the demon "Doubt". He cannot lie, but is constantly tormented with doubts (hence the title).....about people, situations, everything!
At the beginning of the book, the warriors are all in search of the Hunter's who are trying to find Pandora's box to recapture the demons. The problem for the warriors is that without the demons inside them.....more

Ever since the Budapest and Greek warriors had mended fences and decided to work together to defeat their common enemy (Galen the keeper of Hope), find the missing relics and secure Pandora’s box, Sabin the keeper of Doubt had wondered at the addition of the women. It seemed to make Maddox the keeper of Violence, Reyes the keeper of Pain and Lucien the keeper of Death weaker. Finding a group of women locked in glass cages did peak his interest as to why the Hunters would keep them. After finding...more

I never wouldv'e thought that Sabin's book would grab me like this. I devoured this book as quickly as I could. I adored Gwen and seeing the changes she brought about in Sabin were wonderful. It was nice to get small peeks at the other characters that have found their HEA's, and get further information on what's to come. The biggest surprise was seeing Nix (from Immortals after Dark) make a cameo in Budapest and to see that Torin is interested in her. HELLO - what a yummy combination that would ...more
Without a 'Doubt' this romance is the best of the series so far

The fourth book of the Lords of the Underworld keeps it´s place with the other books. It´s packed with action, has a solid alpha male, a heroine that grows in her powers and interesting side stories.
What we know about the Hunters takes a new twist and what we learn about Gideon (keeper of lies) and Torin (keeper of disease) keeps adding to the arc story. I really liked the way Gideon and Torin came to life. Oh, to read their stories!

this book had a different flow than the rest of the series. we saw a lot of the inner workings of the other Lords. all pretty much heart breaking sides of them at that. some new characters were brought into the mix. the haripes were just great. i can't wait to see them making the Lord's fortress a zoo.

Sabin, keeper of Doubt, merciless warrior, driven leader and all-round badass. Gwendolyn the Timid, poster child for the self-esteem challenged, current captive and all-round victim. And they fall for each other so hard it registers on the Richter scale.
