Nathan Hurst works security for a music store chain as a house detective only not the kind that walks around watching for shoplifters. He watches the transactions in over 300 stores and catches employees stealing from the company. In so doing he travels to other cities to complete investigations and have employees arrested. Some people are surprised when arrested. Some are shocked that they would be caught. So Nathan has saved the company lots of money and even has had some merchandise returned More...

This was a typical Richard Paul Evans book. I have to say I love The Christmas Box, so I am not necessarily anti Richard Paul Evans. The problem with this book is that it was very predictable and unbelievable. From the first chapter, I had some parts of the story figured out. The good guys were unbelievably very good, the bad guys were unbelievably very bad. Could they get any worse than the ex-husband or the sick millionaire? I don't think so. The gift in the story wasn't believable. So More...

I really really liked this book. I gave it a four out of five in the rating because it was so captivating and I felt like I was actually living the whole story. I would strongly recommend this book to all teenage kids to read. I think it would make a person a little more sensitive to the world around them. That is important, specially in junior high.

I enjoyed this book because it was exciting and just a good book but it was pretty sad too. I sometimes wondered what it would be lik More...

Chances are that if I'm reading a Richard Paul Evans book, I'm trying to get out of a reading slump. His books are my comfort reads. This applies in this case. I had not picked up a book in a week! Unfortunately when I finished this one, I was back on the slump again ! Oh well.

This book did not disappoint. The characters were vivid. I distinctly knew who I like and did not. The storyline was tender. Another classic Evans tale with purpose and message. You'll need a box of Kle More...

I LOVED this book! It was such a fun read for me! I only read it in a couple of hours and it was a cute little story! I loved the characters especially Collin and Elizabeth! Addison, Nathan and Miche were also great people! Nathan was such an interesting person with an awful past! And I didn't expect to like him so much! Something else that was fun for me was that most of it took place in Murray, and I live like 1 block from where all the action occurred! My friend lives on Walden where Addison More...

I've decided I like this author. He writes feel-good books with a message and a purpose.
This book deals with divorce, death and disappointment. Nevertheless and amidst the sorrows, the gift of love and life continues.
His characters are journal writers, and they share some of their entries. These entries are often deep and profound.
A few of my favorites from the character Nathan Hurst:
"Our thoughts are not haphazardly shot out into the cosmos. They are boomeran More...

I like Richard Paul Evans' writing style--reading this story was like embarking on a new adventure while at the same time meeting an old friend--because his writing is conversational and has it's own unique flavor. This was another amazing story. I liked how it opened with James 1:17 "Every good and perfect gift is from above [...]." I also liked these quotes:

"There is no hurt so great that love cannot heal it."

"Heroes rarely look the way we draw More...

As you can see, I am on fire with this author. I went to the library and found two more that I haven't read. I think there are a couple more yet.
This is about a boy who died, came back to life, but had a power to heal. It really takes off and you can't leave it alone. Every story Richard puts a piece of himself into it in some way. In this one, the main character has some "tics" from that disease which causes that...and is healed from it. Richard has that disease also, and More...

I don't know where to begin on a review for this book. This book was $15 more then I usually pay for an e book, unless it's from an author I really love and just really want the book. I read the synopsis of this book and then stuck it on my wish list to read later but I could not stop thinking about it, there was just something drawing me to this book so I bought it. I'm so happy I did!
This is unlike any "Christmas story" I have ever read, no not because it's heart breaking, a lot More...

Nathan Hurst has had a rough life. He left home at an early age after his brother's death and his father's suicide. Nathan's mom was absent after these tragic events so the thought of leaving seemed to be the only solution.

Never letting go of his past, Nathan spends most of his adult life isolated from the rest of the world. His isolation is enabled by his career, which requires him to travel often each year. Returning home from a business trip, Nathan finds himself stranded at an ai More...

A heartwarming story about a boy who has the ability to heal and see auroas of people. Collin is very sick himself with leukemia and a weak heart. He can not heal himself. When he does heal it stresses his own strength that puts his life in jeopardy.

Words from RPE's website. "Healing is the premise of my newest book, The Gift. Nathan Hurst meets Addison Park when they’re snowed in at the Denver airport. As Nathan is falling in love with this woman, he discovers her son’s gift of More...

333 pages of genius....this was my first book by Richard Paul Evans...absolutely loved it. Grab the Kleenex....I'm still teary-eyed. Although, many readers and book stores classify this as a "Christmas" book...I didn't. It's just timeless lessons of love, letting go, and learning to forgive. The author's style of writing kind of reminds me of Nicholas Sparks meets Marisa de los Santos meets Laura Jensen Walker. The tears may not be as free-flowing for those with no children of the More...

This is about a single mother of two, a single man searching for the meaning of life, an ex-husband that doesn't "get it" and a boy that will capture your heart. I found this book to be my favorite of the Richard Paul Evans' books that I have read thus far. I found myself captivated with the characters. This book was a page-turner for me. And, I love the moral that I was given. I learned about righteous desire, worth-while sacrifice, and service. This book pulled some of my heart More...

It's been a long time since I picked up a book by this author. While I think he's a good author and story teller, I just tired of all of the Shakepearian tragedy type endings. This book was different. Nate Hurst has been traveling for several weeks. When a snow storm strands him in Denver, he offers to share his hotel suite with Addison and her two children. Addison's son has a special gift that changes Nate's life in many ways.

I really enjoyed this book, I especially liked the More...

It is unfortunate that I only listen to my audiobooks for approximately 10 minutes a day when I come across books like this. The Gift is a wonderfully written story of a man, a little boy, and the Gift that God gave the boy, and he passed on to the world. This small sick boy, Collin, is dying. He suffers from cancer and a heart problem. But God chose to bless him with the power of healing.

The miracles in this book are many, but the most important, in my opinion, is the miracle of More...

Enjoyed a good Christmas book, "The Gift". Definitely reminded me to be in the holiday spirit and that love can heal us in ways we never imagine. This story definitely made me appreciate life and reflect on how the magic of Christmas brings hope to those around us. The story is told about a boy, Collin, who while he's sick from cancer and has other health issues, helps others through healing power even if it costs him part of his well being. He does this because he knows that " More...

Have you ever been stranded? Have you had a life changing experience? When Nathan Hurst, the main character, finds himself snowed in at an airport on a business trip, his life completely changes. Yes this a one of "Those Christmas books" But it was what I needed at the time - a quick read I could finish in a night and a positive read for a quick escape from Christmas stress. I did like the premise behind the book.. And the concept of forgiving and loving ourselves. There was also a great line in the book.

The Gift was just that, a gift to read. I was moved by the story, the power of physical and emotional healing and a reminder of the impact we can leave on those we come in contact with throughout our lives. We all have a gift to give to those we love, in one form or another. The greatest gift we could ever give doesn't cost us money or come wrapped in a package. This book left me wondering what my loved ones would say about the imprint I might leave on their lives when I am called home. Wil More...

Wow! That was my initial reaction upon finishing The Gift by Richard Paul Evans. What an incredible story. I first learned of The Gift in a review in Entertainment Weekly, and then I came across it while doing some Christmas shopping, and thought I’d pick it up in an effort to awaken my holiday cheer. While not exactly a Christmas story, The Gift does take place around the holidays, and is truly a heart-warming story that did succeed in helping me get in the spirit.

This book was my book club grab bag gift. It was written by the same author as The Christmas Box. It was another easy book to read, with short chapters. It was the story of Nathan, who works in security/loss prevention for a large music store chain. He serendipitously meets Addison and her children, Collin and Lizzy, and his life changes in many ways. It is the story of love between mothers and sons, a sweet story which takes place between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

I recall having read The Christmas Box years ago, and remember thoroughly enjoying it. I really enjoyed reading this book. I couldnt put it down actually. Finished it in one day. A great story of love, faith, and healing. The only reason I didnt give this book a 5 star rating was for the religious undertones towards the end of the book, and the lead character made an anti gay statement. The story nonetheless is beautiful and very much worth reading.

a little sappy as his books tend to be but this was one of the better ones. Of course, someone has to die, don't like that.
This one had many quotes I really liked. Seemed to hit home for me right now.
Quote "There's no hurt so great that love can't heal it".
Quote "Fear has led to more retribution than justice ever will".
Quote "Forgiveness doesn't require us to close our eyes but rather to really open them".
Quote "In the end, love

I really enjoyed this book - it was quite a fast read. It's not necessarily a Christmas story in that you could read it at any time of the year, but I have to say it seemed to take on more meaning at Christmastime. The book has really simple lessons that the protagonist expresses in a few sentences of his journal entry at the beginning of each chapter. I loved it and would recommend it to fans of Richard Paul Evans (The Christmas Box) or those looking for a good story filled with life lessons More...

First let me say, I love Richard Paul Evans and his writing -- he is one of my favorites. However, for me (and it dissapoints me to say it), this book didn't hit the mark. The storyline surrounding "the gift" was a little far fetched for me and therefore I found myself working harder to enjoy it. Of course, as with all his books, you always come away with something good to apply to your life and help you remember how blessed each of us are.

Just needed a light, fluffy read and he delivered once again. This is the first book I've read of his that didn't make me cry though. I have his latest one, the Christmas List, on my nightstand waiting for me. Everyone at the library who has read it says it is their favorite. The Gift had an obvious gospel message. I enjoyed it and it made me think about the gifts we have and the sacrifices we make to share them.

LOVED THIS BOOK. I don't know why I saw so many bad reviews saying it's "just like all the others". If you're familiar with this author, you know how he writes. You know the subject matter he writes about and the way he's going to tell the story. So don't read this book if you don't like spiritual stories. But DO read this book if you enjoy beautiful writing that tugs on your heartstrings and nourishes your soul.
