Shelves: book-club, memoir
Mattie had a remarkable life, and I liked learning about her, and how loved she was by her grandchildren. I'm glad to have made her acquaintance and to have a better appreciation of my life. I think the book could have used a really good editor. If you want to learn about the frontier life of the early twentieth century this is an eye-opener. When her husband died in 1918, and she was 22 years old, she had to petition the court to be allowed to keep her own children! The status of women has ...more
