Very enjoyable, but light reading. Like all Fletch books I've read so far - some very funny, quirky bits tucked in alongside a decent investigation mystery. Fletch is fired from the paper for reporting on a business story and quoting the CEO who had been dead for over one year. But was he dead? or had he been murdered? Fletch tries to get his job back by getting to the bottom of the mystery. Wrapped up nicely and even though the book is over 30 years old (1981) - it isn't overly dated - which sa...more

All Fletch books are kind of a product of the times they were written in. But this one is especially so. I don't want to give anything away, but the reader of this book discovers the "secret" about halfway through the book, much sooner than Fletch does. It may have been shocking in 1970something, but today it is just a quaint reminder that we have progressed a lot further socially.

I really enjoyed this book. It is a very funny and light mystery novel by a guy called Gregory Macdonald. It is the first time I heard of him, not sure if he is dead because this is suppose to have been published in the 1980's, but truly enjoyed his style. Fletch character is particularly funny as well as gf Moxie, read in an apice.

As usual with the Fletch series, the book rattles along at a nice pace (none of them takes more than a day to read) and, as another reviewer has said, the 'twist' is suspected by the modern reader at about the 50% mark, although I initially dismissed it as being too far-fetched.

Enjoyable, though not a classic Fletch book.

The better of the two Fletch books I read that day, but not the most memorable. Maybe it was my cold or the fact that I read too quickly, but I didn't remember until 2/3 of the way through that I had already read this one years ago.

Sometimes you just need to reread some Fletch. This is not the best one but it was a fun break on a night when Fletch books were about as intellectual as I could get. If anyone wants it, I am happy to send my copy.

there were some seriously odd situations in this book. And the outcome was great. The wrap up was whole, toatl, and complete, and left me feeling satisfied. I look forward to the other Fletch books.

Way better than "Fletch, Too," but not as good as "Fletch Won." Also loses a star because I figured out the mystery halfway through the book...

The mystery begins when Fletch finds a wallet containing ten thousand dollars in it, and it's all downhill from there. Yet another great mystery from Gregory Mcdonald. A very quick, easy, but entertaining read.

I liked it more than three stars but less than four. Good not great addition to the series.

This is a book set early in Fletch's career. Fletch is still as witty as always. It was interesting to read and I wondered as I read it what my attitude toward the plotline would have been like if I had read it thirty years ago when it was written. Times have changed.

One of the better books in the Fletch series. Any good mystery must keep the reader guessing and the pages turning, as this does. But one of the things I love about Gregory McDonald is that the character dialogue takes things to another level. As one would expect, Fletch is at his witty best here and the book is full of laugh out loud moments.

Easy beach towel read. Well written, likeable protagonist, enough jokes to keep you going.
One mayor problem: plot is easy to guess, must have seemed more outlandish thirty years ago when this was written. Two and a half stars.

I really liked this book. This was a good story with lots of twists and turns. It won't blow your socks off, but its a quick read and a decent mystery.
