The Promise Of His Appearing: An Exposition Of Second Peter
The book of Second Peter has long troubled biblical scholars and interpreters, who have disputed both its authorship and its claims about the imminent return of Christ. In this study Peter Leithart offers a preterist reading of the epistle, arguing that it describes first-century events rather than the end of history. At the same time, he maintains orthodoxy, avoiding hype...more

Very good.
Amazingly good book. I think he's kind of convinced me of the whole preterism thing, now I'm just trying to figure out if and how preterism fits in with the various millennial views available.
I would definitely recommend this to anyone who doesn't know a whole lot about eschatology and wants to figure out what they believe. Even if you don't agree with what he has to say, you'll at least be forced to think about what you do believe against the backdrop of this book, which is moderate...more

This is a book about 2 Peter, but it also deals a lot with Matt 24. If I understand correctly, the author teaches that the "day of the Lord" in 2 Peter references the destruction of the Old Covenant order of Judaism, not the final return of Jesus. According to the author, the letter is an encouragement to believe Jesus' prophecies in Matt 24 (A.K.A. the Olivet Discourse) where Jesus says, "Truly I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all these things take place."...more
Peter Leithart does a bang up job of representing a full-yet-not-hetrodox preterism, using 2 Peter as his text. There is a chiasm, so I'm happy. While I am not full convinced of any one eschatological school (I'm still amill with all kinds of sympathies), there was lots of good points for why much more in the NT refers to AD 70 then is commonly reckoned. A good, quick read.
A challenge to read II Peter as a prediction of the fall of Jerusalem in A.D. 70. While not every reader will agree with Leithart's conclusions, he does force you back to the text and many of his arguments are sound.
Great book
Muito bom!
Amazing!
Excellent.
Great book and very helpful - I will have to read it again though...
If you want to understand how the New Testament cannot but be interpreted through a Preterist framework, this is the book to read. This book does much to undermine the pre-millenial, rapture eschatology that ravages the church today (though Leithart does not directly deal with "the rapture"). A tremendous (and quite easy) read.
Interesting ... But it's such a minority position that I have a hard time believing that it's true .
Rich.
(And as one might expect, some of this commentary can also be carried over and applied to Jude.)
