The driving desire of the Gospel is "my life for yours." Our desire should be to have this love transform everything we do, room by room. This book works its way through every part of the house, examining each part in light of Scripture. The claims of God are always total, and this should be evident on the doorposts and in a sink full of dishes. Self-centeredness...more

Another good one by Wilson. It's basically an expanded and updated version of Reforming Marriage. This is about how a godly marriage should manifest itself in different ways throughout the home. He even applies the my-life-for-yours principle to the bathroom. Now that takes some seriously ingenious pastoral wisdom to pull that off!

I loved it! Wilson always does a great job making the theoretical practical. Are you wanting to turn your home into a Christ-honoring abode? This is a principle-based guide for turning every aspect of the Christian home into clean, loving, hospitable spaces filled with Christ's love ready to share with others.

Some moments of freshness amongst relatively conservative but agreeable stuff. The title seems a bit post hoc, fitting but not really woven into the rest of the text. Likewise, the gospel gets a mention but I'm not sure how much really reflects the revolution of jesus as opposed to standard Christian morality. I do agree strongly with the idea of infusing the home with an atmosphere reflecting ones values - too often repeated words fail to train a child's heart in the direction parents hope for.

Great book. Encouragement on every page to lay down your life for others and grow in grace.

If you only buy one of Wilson's family books, this is the one to get.

Encouraging and blissfully easy to read in a distracted environment.

Lovely and thought-provoking. I desire to live like this.

Great book, but the sermon series was even better.

Excellent. Wilson again expands the Lordship of Christ and the very material implications of His Gospel. Having just been married and have begun living in a real "home" of my own, this book was an utter joy to read. Wilson rightly targets the awful prevalence of the gnostic domesticity that plagues evangelicals today in our lack of appreciation for good food, good drink, interior decorating, hospitality and our blindness to the intense spiritual ramifications that are produced by th...more

This book is very unique. Doug takes the rooms of a house and shows how to live out the gospel in these rooms. I really enjoyed this book, it was one that I talked about for weeks.

Doug is a mentor to me, though he doesn't even know me, through his books, I learn so much about the family, parenting, marriage, learning, and I look forward to the next lesson. I book well worth the time.

The christian home should reveal the gospel, should be living and growing with the heartbeat of "my life for yours". A look at biblical living, room by room with sometimes humorous insight and no nonsense truth. I felt the sting of the truth, the pain of regret and the soothing balm of grace as I read. I highly recommend this fine book.

I write in order to make the little voices in my head go away. Thus far it hasn't worked.
