This book is a great first read for the mystery genre! Mysteries are a very complicated genre for children. Last year when I did a mystery unit I was having a difficult time finding an appropriate level mystery for my lower readers. This book was a perfect fit! While the book is short, there is still an appropriate amount of suspense leading up to solving the mystery.

Our oldest is just fascinated with Cam Jansen and these Young Cam Jansen books are perfect for a quick read at bedtime. We're slowly working our way through the series and I think she likes them equally. Our youngest prefers these because they are shorter with more pictures.
This mystery was okay, easy to solve, but demonstrates perseverance when your first (or second) guess is wrong.
