It seems as if most of Bahnsen’s books were published after his death than during his own lifetime. Bahnsen’s “Always Ready is one of those work, published after his death that was based largely on various essays which he wrote concerning Presuppositional apologetics. Some have commented that this work is rather disorganized or repetitive. If so, the fault of it being disorganized can be attributed to the fact mentioned earlier that the materials originally were not meant to be written More...

A famous saying of Dale Carnegie is that "a man convinced against his will is of the same opinion still". This says far more than I think is often realized. What it says is that there is something deeper than intellectual assent that must be regarded when attempting to persuade. In addition to the mind, the will must be moved and the will has to do with pre-commitments, also referred to as pre-suppositions or pre-knowledge.

Greg Bahnsen is well known for perpetuating the legacy of Cornelius Van T More...

While this book is sort of a compilation of lectures and articles, the editors did a good job pulling things together and organizing them. If you are already convinced or mostly convinced of the presuppositional method of apologetics, most of the first sections can be skimmed, though they provide a good foundation for thinking through the reasons why this model is best and being able to defend it over other models that give ground to unbelievers; most clear is that there is no neutral intellectu More...

As an undergraduate philosophy student at a secular university, I constantly have my faith in question and tend to spend a lot of my time reading and discussing apologetics. I picked up Dr. Bahnsen's book because I had heard defenses of presuppositional apologetics from laymen and felt that I should honor a tradition by reading some of its more learned defenders. After reading the book, I was highly disappointed.

Considering the fact that Dr. Bahnsen has M.Div. and Th.M. degrees from Westminster More...

I will confess that I was a bit leery of picking up this book, because of the intellectual powerhouse that I know Bahnsen to be. I have listened to dozens of his lectures, and have always admired his ability to articulate very complex categories of thought. However, I was pleasantly surprised when I began this book, and quickly devoured it within a period of just a few days.
The book has short chapters to start with, which make the reader feel like he is accomplishing something great, and altho More...

This is an accessible introduction to defending the Christian faith from a presuppositional point of view. Very strong argument for why the Christian must never "set aside" their convictions when defending the Christianity. Our goal is two-fold:
1. To demonstrate the unreasonableness of anti-Christianity
2. To demonstrate the certainty of truth found in God's word

While there is a lot of good stuff in this book, my main complaints would be:
1. Repetitive, often belaboring the same point in different More...

If you were a soldier in hostile territory, and you were confronted by an unarmed man who wanted to kill you, what would you do? Would you lay down your weapon to make it easier for him to attack? Or would you ward him off with the weapon that you have been issued and trained to use? Clearly, you would do the latter. Why then are most Christians, in the course preparing for the apologetic defense of the faith, taught to do the former? “You must come to common ground with your opponent,” they are More...

I find this book to be highly recommended as a starting point for someone who wants to understand the relationship between philosophy and Christianity and discern the differences between believing and unbelieving systems of thought.

I would recommend anyone read this book before they started into Plato or Kant.

Also read this book before you spend tons of time studying evidences for the Christian faith.

In other words, this book helps you set the saw blade of your mind in a way that will cut straig More...

The reason I rated this book so high was because of the influence it had on a (still) budding apologist. Bahnsen does a very good job arguing about where the Christian's heart commitment should lie. He also launches some decent objections against various defeaters to the Christian's theological beliefs.

The down side is that a lot of Bahnsen's proof texts do not exegetically support his claims. Much of his apologetics in action takes aim at either old and decrepit, or weak, attacks on the Christi More...

This was a most excellent book as to how the Christian should be ready to defend the faith and I think it's the only way to expose the "intellectual schizophrenia" that is within every non-Christian and that is at the core of their world view, which is a network of their presuppositions. The whole problem with an evidence based apologetic is that there is always room for a probability that it may not be true, which God never grants us as an option in scripture.

I really liked a most of this book. His tone seemed a bit harsh in the first half... But by and large it was good. He was particularly helpful in the "problem if evil" chapter when he pointed out that the objectioners must assume the Christian worldview to even raise the objection. Thus the only people who can raise the question with some degree of consistency are christians. So it goes, Bahnsen says:

P1: God is all-good
P2: God is all-powerful
P3: Evil exists
P4: God has a morally sufficient reason More...

So far 'Always Ready' has been as excellent as everyone has always promised me it would be. It has not been an easy read for me by any stretch of the imagination, but very helpful. It has given me a better understanding of the importance of Presuppositionalism. ie Christians having their minds rooted in Christ and presupposing the truth of His word in all areas of life. It has also better instructed me on the importance of humbly, yet firmly defending His gospel and ''destroying speculations and More...

This is a great book to begin the study of Apologetic's. If you are interested in defending the Christian faith, this is the book for you. However, I highly recommend carrying along with this book a dictionary of theological terms. Dr. Bahnsen has quite a command of the language of theology and if you are not, you will be. It is a tough read but well worth it. I recommend reading in small bites.

I wholeheartedly recommend Bahsen's work as not only concise and to the point, but also far-reaching an exhaustive in its simplicity. I do believe it's the best single academic and pragmatic book I've ever read on the subject of apologetics.

I've got a lot of time for presuppositional apologetics and thought I'd try to get to grips with it after being bowled over by Ten Bruggencate on Premier radio's "Unbelievable" show. I wasn't disappointed with this book and intend to read it again sometime soon.

5 stars because there was no option for 6. Bahnsen is an able explainer of the method and justification of presuppositional apologetics. Read this first, before you dive into his massive book: Van Til's Apologetic, Readings & Analysis.

One of three books that absolutely affected my Christianity in an amazing way (the others were Mere Christianity (C.S. Lewis) and Finding God (Larry Crabb).

No longer do I find myself needing to cede the intellectual high grouond when trying to explain why I beleive in God. No longer do I need to try and prove He exists. This book helped to to realize that my "opponent" needs to prove the existence of "no-God". Being true to that initial pre-supposition had grounded my faith and has made many a More...

A classic introduction to presuppositional apologetics, although I do not think that traditional apologetics are ever to be set aside for this. Definitely worth the read.

This book was an eye-opener for me as far as Christian apologetics is concerned. Bahnsen does an amazing job of getting the Christian to think Biblically about the way he defends his faith. I was convicted from the very first chapter and had a difficult time putting the book down. The way he dealt with the "problem of evil" in one of the later chapters of the book was by itself worth the price of the book. I would recommend this book to any Christian who is wishing to understand his faith more, More...

A plethora of books on apologetics can be found in your local Christian bookstore. The problem is that few actually encourage a truly biblical approach to defending the Christian faith. Unfortuantely, just because a methodology touts itself as Christian does not make it biblical. That being said, Always Ready stands out from the pack as a genuinely biblical approach to apologetics. I have read and learned much from many other works on apologetics, but Bahnsen's profound yet simple approach to de More...

Best book I've read on the subject!! This book is one of the reasons each time I think of the atheist "beliefs" I roll on the floor laughing... ha ha ha... Anyway, Bahnsen shows how you cannot be both atheist and logical, its impossible. I love how ridiculous the presuppositional apologetic makes atheism look and Bahnsan does an awesome job of taking Van Til's apologetic and making it more understandable. The one major issue I dont agree with Bahnsan or Van Til on is calvanism but thats a whole More...
