Really enjoyed this second outing from Shawn Klomparens. Shows a nice development in maturity of characters & subject matter & had me guessing how it would end until the end.

I really enjoyed reading Two Years, No Rain by Shawn Klomparens. It's a novel that I wouldn't normally pick up, as it's not "chick literature", but I gave the book a chance and was honestly hooked within the first few pages of the novel. I was pleasantly surprised at the very beginning. I really liked that it was a male character, Andy Dunne, telling his story, as I am used to reading novels that have women as the main character. It was a nice change. The novel was very well written, a

While Shawn Klomparens' Two Years, No Rain -- follow-up to the gem of a debut novel Jessica Z -- has many of the same aspects that made Z great, it doesn't have the same degree of character development, and halfway through the book one starts to lose the thread of the story. The novel is well-written and often light-hearted even when dealing with a harsh divorce and a forced change in career path, but I hope in Klomparens' next novel we see a return to more likable supporting characters.

This was a great contemporary novel with a male perspective on life and love. It was refreshing, the voice clean and crisp and I found this book really easy to read. Andy was a lost soul and even though I found him likeable, I didn’t love him every moment in the book. Even so, I felt like I understood him and his motivation and enjoyed this novel about possibilities even when life knocks you down multiple times.

Say you're going to write a book, and you have the writing ability to write a good one. Do you write the book that will sell 300 copies to 300 people who dog-ear it, reread it, quote it, and sleep with it under the pillow, while there is a chance that it will miss out on that "good book jackpot" and go largely ignored, or do you write a novel with a hot-pants male lead, aimed to women who got married when they were 19 years old and are now 12 years deep in a loveless marriage and look

Synopsis:

But in Andy's life, things are changing fast. Andy's faced with the tail end of a divorce and his wife has just moved out of their house, with much of their furniture. This story was difficult for me to read. I mean, it was AMAZING, but the emotion and story content was hard. It struck a nerve with me.
I’m not normally a literary reader---I am on occasion, but I’m naturally drawn to commercial fiction. The fact that the author could keep me hooked, keep me thinking about Andy’s story constantly during my day, and continuing to turn pages says a lot.

I adored this book from the very first line to the last page. I was engaged with Andy's story and somewhere during my journey I fell in love with him. He is such a vulnerable character and for some reason I was drawn to that aspect of his personality. As you get to know him you realize that he's sweet, sincere, funny, but not totally happy. Something is missing. That missing part is his identical twin Jason. I believe the author painted a very realistic picture of twins and how they feel at time

I had to sit with Two Years, No Rain for a while before rating it. A few months, really. Unusual, I realize.
But now that I look back, I feel I might know Andy Dunne. His discomforts are my discomforts. His joys mine, too. That's Shawn for you. (Check my review of his other book, Jessica Z., for the full report.)
This will be on my to-read list again very soon.

Well it's always a pleasant surprise to pick up a book by an author that you've never heard of, nor have any pre set ideas about and really enjoy the read! Two Years, No Rain is just such a book . Shawn Klomparens writes a witty, heartfelt book about a guy who's down on his luck in just about everything in his life, and - just like the weather - is due for a change .... or two.

What a fun read this was. Shawn Klomparens brings the story alive with dialogue, and has very real characters -- flesh and blood, flaws and all. The emotions are so real, and you can most certainly relate with the main character, Andy, and his internal struggles, whether you are a man or woman.

From the evening weatherman to the star of a children's show.........Andy is recently divorced, loses his job as the weatherman and is chosen to be the main character in a new show called Andy's Magic Carpet...all kinds of changes for Andy.....but never changing is the fact that he is still in love with a married co-worker and the feeling is mutual.

Shawn Klomparens' second novel, "Two Years, No Rain" is a fun and addictive read that will keep your fingers turning the pages until there are no more pages to read.
"Two Years, No Rain" is the underdog story of Andy Dunne, a meteorologist near San Diego and recent divorcee who loses his job reading weather forecasts on satellite radio because his job can easily be done on the other side of the country. Things aren’t going that great in Andy’s life. The one time TV weatherman is recording weather updates for satellite radio, but there’s not much to report since it hasn’t rained in over 500 days. Andy’s wife has had a couple affairs and is divorcing him and cleaning out their house. Andy’s brother in law is in the Navy and out to sea, so Andy’s helping his sister cope with her kids, particularly her fifteen year old daughter. Nothing seems to phase Andy, though.

Two Years, No Rain was a really engaging story. I really liked the character of Andy, he was a good guy, with a lot of problems recently thrown at him and I think he handles himself really well. In the beginning I felt bad for him and then when things start to look up for him I was cheering for him all the way. A lot of people in his position (being the star of a kids show kind of like Blues Clues) might let it get to their head and turn into a not so nice, cocky guy but Andy wasn't like it. He

This book was the male version of chick lit, following a man from the breakup of his marriage through an unexpected career change and the development of a new romantic affair. It explores his family relationships past and present, looking at him as a brother and as an uncle.
I'm used to reading books like this by women, about women, for women. This book was written by a man about a man, and read quite differently even while retaining a familiar feel.

Two Years, No Rain is a well-written story about a down and out regular guy. Shawn Klomparens illustrates how every person has a story. Each character had a complicated life and a voice; each character was well-developed. I really felt for Andy, the protagonist, and was eager to turn the page to learn what happened to him.
Klomparens covers many subjects in great detail: meteorology, sailing, video animation, teenagers, as well as a quick trip to Hong Kong. He did his research!

Arrgghh--I'm getting so tired of 3 star books! I really had hopes for this one. I was better than half way through with it and it was really pulling me along. But when it came time to start wrapping it all up, it started to fall apart for me. Some problems were solved too easily, some were blown way out of proportion and then the explanation just did not work for me. But I'm not giving up on Klomparens; his "Jessica Z" has been added to my tbr list and he was really able to get me

I found this book fascinating from a literary standpoint. The characters are, without exception, really well drawn and that carries the book. I don't often read what I consider "beach reading" but this would be perfect. You get drawn in to the story (or stories) BECAUSE of the characters. Not that they are that complex (at times they can seem almost soap operaish) but because they are quite believable and distinct. It's a fun book. The dark side to it, concerning some sub plots about f

"There are always possibilities. You just need to remember to be realistic about them."
I love Andy Dunne. He's a great character, one that I could really relate to. He's just trying to figure things out and seeing what's possible for him without losing his true identity in the process.
I thought the relationship games that were played between him and Hillary were a little over done and dramatic, but I know Shawn Klomparens did this on purpose to make a point More...

I so wanted to love this book. Klomparens' first book, Jessica Z. was such a great experience that I was hoping for more of the same from his second offering. But this one fell pretty flat for me. I liked it, but I didn't love it. Andy Dunne is a likeable character, but much of the story felt too contrived. Even though he has a messy past, things just happen to fall into place a little too neatly in Andy's life: he loses his job, but he lands another right away and becomes a major TV star; he's

I found this book on my street a couple weeks ago, and just picked it up for fun reading, but I am really enjoying it! It's been awhile since I read a book I didn't want to put down, that had me drawn into it's world so satisfyingly. Worth the read!

Once again, it took me a few chapters to really get interested in Andy's life. I almost gave up and put the book down but then all of a sudden, I was wondering what would happen next. It was a good book overall. I think the problem is that it is just not my favorite topic of reading. But I still enjoyed it in the end.

Despite Andy’s flaws, he is a good brother, uncle, and friend and he loves weather. The reader cheers for Andy to find his way, like hoping a lost puppy finds his owner.

A great book from a great author. Probably a a 4 star from the writing perspective, but the fidelity issues had me working to really enjoy parts of it.

Very readable. A good story well written but not something I'll remember much in the future. Enjoyable and entertaining.
