I enjoyed this book quite a bit, I mean I did have to suspend a lot of belief that the heroine wouldn't freak and call the police when the hero showed up injured in her cottage but what the hell, I don't need to use my brains much when reading a book. I may have some criticisms of certain aspects of Doreen Malek's books, but I have yet to read one that isn't an engrossing and entertaining read. She can take the most hackneyed romance plot and fill it with her the well-drawn characters, natural and human dialogue, and way better than average writing style to make it well worth reading, at least for me. I love a self-sacrificing hero and I felt for and liked Helen.

I cannot help an eye roll at a 25 year old virgin but this was written back in the 80s when every woman this side of 30 was still a virgin or inexperienced and every m...more

There are some authors when I see their books listed on the Top 100 Free, I download it without reading the synopsis. Doreen Owens Malek is one such author. Her writing had never let me down and Montega's Mistress was no exception. I was transported to a small war-torn country and found myself cheering for the guerillas fighting to overthrow the current oppressive government. To find a love story in that setting was endearing. It was not the story I expected but I was captivated. Once again, Mal...more
