An interesting read, as anything decently done on Forrest would be. Stylistically, it feels like something written much earlier and the authors certainly want Forrest to be regarded as heroic. He was on many levels and certainly fought heroically, as both Grant and Sherman found him one of their most dangerous enemies. Sherman in particular mentions him in his autobiography. Too much turn by turn military tactics, not enough biographical/sociological insight. I'd still like to find a bio of Forrest that's more centered on his role in race relations in the US.
