I was in a quandry about how to rate this one 4 stars seems too low but 5 too high, so it's a 4 1/2 really!
This story for me was an interesting read, a simple plot of intrigue, treason and blackmail with enough twists to surprise, that come when you least expect them and are very believable. The plot is not laid out to you on a plate so you find yourself knowing as much or a little as the hero and heroine, it's reads a little like a *who dunnit* and when you do find out who the instigator of the...more

I normally love Sylvia Day books, but this one fell flat for me. Nothing really HAPPENED in it aside from the initial reunion between Elizabeth & Marcus and the climax at the end with the villain. I did not like Elizabeth at all. She spent the entire book complaining and pushing Marcus away for his supposed faults or mistakes, when in truth she was blaming him out of her own lack of trust. Every time you turned the page she was mad at him or barring him from her bed or crying because he didn...more
Marcus and Elizabeth reunite years after a broken off engagement. Elizabeth cried off but with very good reason. Marcus doesn't quite see it that way!
Marcus is still angry and very much still in love.
But can they forget the past and move forward?
The chemistry between the two is sizzling hot!
One scene I will not forget is when Elizabeth is feeling bereft and unsatisfied seeking to easy herself rather than giving into Marcus. Just as she begins Marcus bursts into the bedroom declaring "Stubborn,c...more

ASK FOR IT by Sylvia Day is an exciting Georgian Erotic Historical Romance set in 1770 England. #I in the "Georgian" series. What an exciting story of intrigue, mystery, agents of the Crown, passion, and love. Follow, Marcus Ashford, the Earl of Westfield, agent of the Crown and Lady Elizabeth Hawthorne,an ex-fiancee and the one who shattered Marcus' heart. This story does have explicit sex scenes including anal play,a bit of bondage,a bit of submission, lots of passion, hence the Erotic romance. But y...more
Marcus is a spy assigned to investigate the murder of Elizabeth’s husband because of reasons having to do with espionage. Elizabeth and Marcus were engaged four years ago. She saw him in a compromising situation with a woman, and she ran off and married another man. Now a widow, Marcus has set his sights on engaging Elizabeth in a discreet affair.
I was super annoyed with both characters in Ask For It

A dangerous intrigue... As an agent to the Crown, Marcus Ashford, the Earl of Westfield, has survived many a sword fight, gun fight, and even cannon fire. Yet nothing excites him more than the primitive hunger his former fiance, Elizabeth, arouses in him. It's been years since she'd jilted him for the Lord Hawthorne, but now the elegant widow is his to defend, and he will do so while tending to her other, more carnal needs, showing her the depth of a real man's desire...

Wow my first Sylvia Day book..
Lady Elizabeth Hawthorne jilted her former lover Marcus Ashford, Earl of Westfield due to a misunderstanding. Hastily she elopes with her brother's friend and finds herself widowed a year later. After three years of mourning the two are reacquainted when Marcus tries to find who murdered Elizabeth's husband. Stil harboring ill feelings towards Marcus, Elizabeth fights him at every single turn even denying her own passions.

I didn't really like this book. Mostly because I spent the first half of the book hating the heroine Elizabeth because she was a cold cruel bitch to the hero Marcus. Then I spend the second half of the book hating the hero because we was a cold cruel bastard to the heroin.

As always Sylvia Day delivers a great novel with intense chemistry between the protagonists. The hero was intriguing, but the heroine drove me batty this time around. I really could not find her very redeeming and I'm not sure I felt her past was enough to make her that insecure over Marcus, but oh well. It was still a great read and I look forward to reading about Christopher St. John in the continuing Georgian series.
3.5/5
I enjoyed Ask For It, my first full length novel by Sylvia Day. The writing style was comfortable and easy to read which made the story flow well from one scene to the next. The prose wasn’t overly flowery – in fact, I didn’t find it flowery at all and at times had to remind myself that this was a historical romance novel because there was such a lack of… elaborate or embellished dialog that is so often a part of the genre.

So for the most part I'm pleasantly surprised. I always thought I wouldn't like a historical read. I usually read more contemporary modern day stuff. But I enjoyed this book. Even though the setting is way back in the day like were talking the 1700s here. I thought the language was going to be a bit old fashioned and stuffy but its not that way. Still kept a bit of a modern day feel even though its placed back so far in time. But I enjoyed the story. I think its beautiful how Elizabeth & Mar...more
Hmm. Not my cup of tea. This is my first Regency-style romance, and granted, I am right smack in the middle of the Outlander series, so maybe I was expecting a little too much since it's set in the same time period, but this couple just didn't do it for me. For the first half of the book I was rolling my eyes. The second half got better once there were real emotions there and more real passion, not just lust.

My second experience of Sylvia Day's historical romance prowess left me a little bit disappointed as I expected it to at least make me a little weak in the knees, but unfortunately for me, it wasn't anything to spend hours gushing over.
The plot is very overused, and frankly I'm going slightly sick after reading all these novels where the action mainly revolves around a life-threatening evil master plan devised by God knows who, that ultimately ends up putting the life of one of the protagonists...more

Wow! Super Sexy! This is excellent reading if you're looking for intense and explicit sex.
The plot, characters and their actions were interesting but not great enough to earn 5 stars. Elizabeth was engaged to Marcus and sees him with another woman having just showered. It was an innocent shower, because the woman had fallen into the river. Elizabeth never took time to hear the truth. She ran away and married Hawthorne. Hawthorne later died, and then Marcus arrogantly pursued Elizabeth.

Really 3.5 stars, and that's an extra half because I enjoy Sylvia Day's writing and her way with a sexy scene.
Frustrated would be the way to describe me for much of the time I was reading this...why, oh why did these two take so long to figure out they loved each other when it was soooo obvious to us? Why did they continue to push each other away while pulling them closer at the same time? Fortunately they realized just in time to thwart the bad guys (and I didn't suspect who it was - kudos for...more

I think Sylvia Day is by far one of the best romance authors out there today. She can honestly tackle any genre. Contemporary romance, erotica, historical, paranormal. She has a great voice, solid writing, and great characters.
The only thing I didn't love about this book was Elizabeth. I thought her plight against Marcus was a bit unfounded and then her 180 into absolute love and jealousy seemed odd.

Nothing incites Marcus more than the primal hunger roused by his former fiancée, Elizabeth. It's been years since she jilted him for another man, but that only means there's a lot to catch up on, a lot to make up for, and that he's going to enjoy every sweet moment...
The same drive and passion that sent her into another man's arms is what brings Elizabeth back to Marcus. Her attraction to him is the one thing she fears, but she's run out of options. Resisting is impossible. But does she have th...more

I was craving for historical erotic romance and this book satisfied me, and more. There's suspense and mystery too so it's romantic suspense as well.
The story shows how miscommunication ruins everything, and in order to get what you really want, sacrifices and compromise must be made.
I liked both characters, they wounded each other deeply but they affect each other like no one could. The erotica was blatant I didn't mind when they talked dirty, I appreciated it in fact because they expressed the...more

The Earl of Westfield, Marcus Ashford, has been obsessed with Lady Elizabeth Hawthorn since she left him high and dry to elope with another. Now four years later, her spouse has been murdered and Marcus is determined to scratch that itch for Elizabeth so he can stop obsessing over her.

It took a long time for me to really get sucked into this story, which is unusual for me with Sylvia Day's stories. It wasn't until I was about 70% in that I had a hard time setting the story down.
There were a lot of great scenes, and I really loved it, but I wasn't wowed by it, and I probably won't read this one again, but I'm glad I at least read it once.
Not going to go through favorite scenes or favorite lines since I wasn't as crazy about this as the previous ones. I'll save that effort for...more

The story seemed more about possession and obsession than deep love. The constant back and forth with the characters' feelings towards each other and their relationship got tiring and lost my interest. Although Day definitely knows how to write incredibly hot sex scenes, they seemed to come so quickly one after another in the story that I started skimming towards the end. I also found the "plot" surrounding the journal weak and nonsensical overall.
I love Sylvia Day and didn't even KNOW she had written historical erotic romances. I LOVE this story and look forward to reading the others in the series.
Marcus and Elizabeth are ex-fiance's at the beginning of the story. She thought he was doing something he wasn't, and she fled and married someone else. Now that her husband is dead, Marcus wants her all to himself.
It's a lovely game of cat and mouse, with lots of awesome sex thrown in. :)

Several people seemed to rave about this book, so I thought I'd give it a go. The first third of the book made me wonder what made it special. But it gradually grew on me.
The writing is better than average, the plot is interesting, but what actually got to me was the emotional developement of the characters. This was quite tangible and usually not easily portrayed. And, off course, the sex was very good!!

I had read few of Sylvia's book and enjoyed every last one of them. For me this story was different from the ones i read so far this was a love story that was was very deeply emotional for him and very held back for her. I really enjoy the story line it held me captive and wanting to read more, i would had enjoyed a longer story line ones they had realized their feeling for each other. Over-roll a great book :)
This book was good. I had the audio book vs reading it, so maybe I was a little annoyed at the actual person reading. It is no where near as good as Crossfire, which had me actually sobbing and laughing and feeling all of the emotions felt by the character. But.....it was a good story. I prefer modern day over 1700's London setting also, but all in all...I wasn't dissappointed.
