Ew. Ick. BLECH!

If In the Midnight Hour was a definite hit from Tor's free ebook giveaway, this was the corresponding miss. Took many of the same elements -- magic battle between good and evil, paranormal romance, heroine with a difficult family background -- and came up with a book so awful that the only reason I finished it was to be sure none of the characters I cared about died. Which points out one of the few good aspects of the book: the characterization was pretty good.

I normally don't read romance, and this book had everything that reminded me why I don't, but I've been getting free eBooks from Tor, and I started reading this book before I realized what it was. And since I have this compulsive need to finish every book I've started, I was stuck.

But, the story itself was fairly interesting. The whole romance and sex stuff felt thrown in, actually, rather than the whole reason for the story. I haven't read many romance novels, as I said, but I wish More...

So I have to start by saying if any book needed an index or prologue with in depth history this would be it. I dont think I understood what the hell was going on until more than halfway through, and Im surprised I stuck it out. There was just so many new terms and types of creatures that I couldnt really figure it out. Even at the end Im not sure if Ive completely got it. Katie is kind of psychic and you find out that in the past she got into a fight with a 'queen' and got bitten but didnt get i More...

Touch of Evil is the first time I’ve picked up anything by C. T. Adams or Cathy Clamp. I’m not sure how I’ve never heard of either of them before this, since they’ve got a lot of books under their (collective) belt, but I’m glad that I finally read something by them.

In this series, the Big Bad are vampire-like creatures known as the Thrall. The Thrall are parasites that require a human Host, whom they eventually take over and kill. The Thrall operate through a hive mind, led by a Queen More...

First, I want to say I enjoyed the first of the Sazi tales and thought I'd give this new series a shot. That being said ...

I cannot understand the glowing reviews on this page. First problem - the main character Kate. She is uninteresting. A stereotype of the "strong and independent" female heroine -- owns her own apartment building but won't charge the high rents the neighborhood commands because she just doesn't have the heart for it. She is also the resident 'handy-man' More...

Okay, so I don't care for romance books, however I read the synopsis for Touch of Evil before I really got the idea it was a romance book. I was already kicking myself for wanting to read it because it's a vampire - werewolf - psychic - adventure! Oopse. I still wanted to read it so I figured I'd go ahead and read it. I was pleasantly surprised that there wasn't a whole lot of blatant "romance" typical stuff going on. The book was much more plot driven than I'd thought to give it More...

The concept of the series is interesting but the editing was horrible. Vampires aren't really vampires but are parasites that invade a human's body and make them a Host. They are known as the Thrall. The human population is divided into two categories, Prey and Not-Prey. The Thrall is connected to every human they feed from and have a Queen just like a hive of bees. Unlike vampires, these creatures can only inhabit a body for a few years. The main character in the series, Kate, is a psychi More...

What awful, plodding, meandering, unrealistic, misconceived drek.

I swear to Christ, TOR.com tricked me into reading this poor excuse for Vampire/Werewolf erotic fanfiction starring some superwoman vampire who wants to have sex with a werewolf fireman. A Goddamned werefolf fireman. A werewolf fireman.

Werewolf fireman.

Werewolf.

Fireman.

Along the way during her quest to get the puss' beaten by the Werewolf. Fireman. ( 0_o ) she has to visi More...

(2.5 stars)Touch of Evil is a mixed bag. There were aspects of it that I liked a great deal, and aspects that didn’t work for me.

First, the good: C.T. Adams and Cathy Clamp’s vampires and werewolves are different from the usual fare. The vampires in Touch of Evil are victims of a parasite and ruled by a hive mind; the werewolves are matriarchal and not tied to the lunar cycle.

Kate’s “Not Prey” status, which is a sort of vampire diplomatic immunity, may be the most interes More...

The best part about this book was the interesting take on vampires. It was refreshing to see them represented as parasites, rather than soul-less sexy dudes. (Although there's nothing wrong with the sexy dude in romance novels, I must say.)

Overall, though, I thought it was confusing and disjointed. There were a lot of details and loose ends that never popped up again or got resolved by the end. The plot, rather than being well-crafted, seemed sort of seat-of-the-pants, like it wasn't More...

I can never understand how the characters in books such as these can so easily jump into being "in love", but then again I must remember I actually picked this one up from the romance section (how I got there, I'm not even sure!) so I can't say its surprising. All in all, I didn't love the book, but I didn't hate it either. It was really easy to read and had a different kind of vampire. And for the first time ever, I found myself on the side of the werewolf! I can't say I'm going to ru More...

Although this was a well-written book, I found it quite difficult to get into. As with Magic Bites by Ilona Andrews (which I liked) this book has a different perpective on vampires - they are parasites which infect human hosts by attaching itself to the host's brain stem and live for up to about 12 years. For some reason I really didn't take to this idea but the character's were interesting, and that's why I'm giving this one three stars.

Like many people, I got this as a free book from Tor.com; it worked for me, and I subsequently bought the rest of the trilogy. I like the way that vampires are presented as evil parasites, yet you get some sense of why and how people are attracted to that evil. The werewolves are cool too, and yet not "better than" humans, because they have flaws and problems, too. The romance plot is hot, too.

Very different take on vampires - they're parasites that take over a host body and use psychic ability to control humans. I really liked Kate Reilly and her love interest Tom the werewolf, as well as her priest Mike and brother Joe. They're all great characters and the action was non-stop. I enjoyed Touch of Evil and will read more books in the series.

I really liked the book, but the only reason I didn't give it more than 3 stars is because the heroine left me a little ambivalent.

On one hand I liked that she was strong and could take care of herself. BUT...I also felt like she had a bad case of ADD. The propensity to ignore the important stuff (like paying bills, among other things!) because she wanted it to go away was annoying as hell. And what was with the starting on something then being sidetracked by something else a few min More...

For vampire lovers out there, this one is entirely different, which I think is fun. In this one, the vampires are NOT sexy and the good guys, they are BAD. In this one we have a sexy werewolf trying to help a psychic. Lots of fun! A series. This is the first one.

An interesting take on the vampire mythology-- alien parasites who came to earth and burrow in their human hosts, giving them the strength and powers of vampires. Not so good a story, and the characters at times have the most ridiculous dialogue.

Paranormal romance.
Liked the structure of the paranormal - werewolves and vampires are mortal enemies. Vampires classify humans as prey or not-prey. Interesting.
Love story was too over the top. Could have done without it at all, but whatever.

A bit of a circular plot/action. I was getting dizzy from it all. The authors were trying to keep everyone confused, even the reader, so we wouldn't notice nothing much was going on. Wasn't too bad; definitely far from great.

A new, vicious breed of vampire has come to town. With a queen-run hive-mind mentality and a parasite spread through their saliva, these are not your average Louis or Edward. Kate has to find a way to maintain her status as Not Prey -- before she ends up as the next Thrall queen.

TOUCH OF EVIL is a deviously delightful romp of a horror novel! I enjoyed this from beginning to end. Though the romantic element offered in Kate's new tenant (the werewolf firefighter-slash-calendar-model More...

A nice different lore on vampires. You wouldn't want to become one of these vamps. And you wouldn't have much choice.
A suspenseful read that makes your average paranormal romance a little spine tingling.

I hesitated to read this book when I was at the library, but I finally gave in and checked out the 3 books in the Thrall series. I started reading and I was surprised that I thought it was really good. As the book progressed, I really liked how tough Kate was and that she was a strong character. The love interest in the book is Tom, who is a firefighter and werewolf. I liked Tom and thought that Kate and Tom were a good match. I'm a big fan of vampire books and I thought it was kind of refreshin More...

I quite liked this book. I read it in almost one sitting so I was enthralled. Kate is a courier with psychic abilities. She is also 'No Prey' which means that she is a equal with the Queens that rule the nests of the Herd. She is now wanted as a queen because of her psychic abilities but does not want to be taken over by one of the parasites that she would need to allow to hatch so that she can become queen. She meets a werewolf called Tom and they hit it off. Read the book. It is a series. More...
