To get a good idea of what to expect from MARS you can check out my review of the complete series on my blog Reading Robyn It's spoiler free, has images from the manga for those interested in a preview of the art, and gives a good overview of the roller coaster that is this series.

SERIES OVERALL RATING: 4 STARS

When I first started MARS it was way back in 2010, now that I've finally finished (January 2012) I feel it's only right to write some sort of review.

I'll be honest, there's a really goo...more

OK, this is for the overall sereis which I finished on January 8, 2011.

Masao is just a phsyco! He is crazy man, I say crazy. WIth all those stuff and the stuff he says and with his mind tricks and anger problems. He's a m******. Though he says that he isn't. He is though. Remember at the end?! He fully is and I don't care what people think. He fully is one.

OMG! It is so horrible what happened to her! D:

The first thing I wanna point out is that Kira cries a lot. She cries when she is happy. She c...more

this book is fascinating. it discusses various themes such as suicide and rape. Rei a delinquent captivated bu motorcycle (pro racing) witnessed his so called pure twin brother comite suicide infront of his very own eyes. later on we discover that his brother actually saw all humans as useless peices of meat and wished to scar his brother with an unhealable wound caused by his suicide. The twins mother suffers as well from mental illness (she hung herself) she had betrayed her husband and slept...more

It did take me three days to finish this series... I was pretty confused at the beginning because the narration went slow at times and some things were left unexplained. I was finding some things quite surperficial, but as I read the volumes, I was surprised to see that I was wrong. This work had dept and I love the psychology in it that links the various characters. Overall, I'd give it 3.5 stars. It was what I needed to read right now, yet I feel as if it lacked of what I usually love and find...more

Rei is the type of guy that Kira couldn't stand; flirty, reckless, and a biker. When a chance encounter leads to Rei saving Kira from a teacher with bad intentions, neither of them know the extent to which the other will impact them.

On the outside, MARS is a typical coming-of-age story centered on the relationship between good girl and a bad boy. But underneath the romance lie stories of suicide, rape and murder; the idea that everyone has a secret to hide, even those who seem most innocent. Wh...more

Ever since Tokyo Pop decided to come out and make this series avaliable in English I was there buying volume 1-15/16 month after month. I fell in love with the art style and the characters even before I read the manga. This is when it wasn't even translated. However at the age of 15 reading this series it was my favourite and now at the age of 25 it still is.

This is a great romance manga for anyone who likes the theme and a plot of bad boy falls for quite girl and drama. Enjoy.

A very beautiful end tothe series. I expected a bit more of a bang at the ending, however it ended quite plainly. I found it to be a bit anti-climactic. Nevertheless, I absolutely loved this series. The characters developed well, especially Rei. It definitely has a rollercoaster of emotions and a couple of times I was on the verge of crying. Although some of the situations are a bit over the top, I just could not deny how great of a series this was.
Nidah (SleepDreamWrite)
Rei and Kira can't wait to get married. But on the night of rei's birthday, Kira and friends wait for Rei when something happens. The last in the series. Even though it felt a little rushed near the end, it was still a good ending to the manga series. Throughout the whole series, it was sad, bittersweet, cute and sweet.

It's so nice to see the painting Kira did of Rei in color here on the cover, and it is rather fitting for the final volume of the MARS manga. Despite their trials and tribulations, the couple FINALLY get to enjoy their special day. Whoo!

The ending was pretty good. It wrapped things up nicely and in a sysnic manner. I wish all endings wrapped things up as nicely.

This is weird but I really like it. Everyone turns out to be some what psycho.

This is one of the few "modern" or recent shojo manga that caught my attention. The story itself is quite trivial, the usual amount of disgraces is falling over the two main characters and the setting is the traditional japanese-scholastic one. However, what makes the difference is that the two characters evolve from the beginning of the story in a really realistic way and their feelings are described in such a way that the two seem coming out of the comic. A really nice reading for whoever want...more

A semi-satisfying conclusion to an okay manga series. On a side note, the final reasoning for why the villain is no longer a threat is silly.

(Reviewing the whole series)

I've always really liked Mars even if it takes 15 books to reach the end. The psychology of the main characters is fascinating and I like how they work through the problems that arise. They don't alwasy pick the best way to resolve something, but they do pick a consistent way that matches their characters. You believe that they really would do what they're doing.

Plus, as a couple they are very cute.

Final volume! This one was weird.

The climax was actually pretty predictable in its possible tragedy. There was also some weird scenes with ghosts. This was especially jarring because it's the first time in the series anything like that had happened.

Ultimately there is a happy ending, of course. I really liked seeing Rei and his father finally interact in a "normal" relaxed fashion. It's a nice little bit of closure.

A very enjoyable story.

I can't remember exact details, but the earlier volumes were definitely better in my opinion even though the later volumes had more depth of story.

A gorgeous love story with adult themes such as rape and suicide. The feathery art leaves something to be desired.
