Uh-oh, the dinosaurs are now sick! How are they going to act being sick at home and when they are taken to the doctor?
Children will be able to relate to this picture book because I am sure at one point of their young lives they have been sick. They will see through the detailed illustrations by talented illustrator Mark Teague how they should and should not act when they are sick. Those with an eye for detail will notice the name of each dinosaur illustrated into the picture (and most are not t...more

I consider Yolen's 'How Do Dinosaurs' books her very best work. My five year old daughter agrees. We've read some others that we enjoyed a lot, we've read some that were okay for us, and we're read a bunch that we hated. But we always come back to these. I really truly wish Yolen would concentrate more on this type of book instead of stories like that horribly boring Russian witch tale.

Believe it or not, but I actually stumbled upon this book at the library. I had never heard of the How Do Dinosaurs... series until I found the Get Well Soon book just minding its own business on a quiet shelf.
It sounded intriguing, so I checked it out and read it to my kids. Well, I thought that I had just made the greatest discovery in children's books! This was brilliant! I thought, there should be more of these dinosaur books. They are funny, insightful, and teach good behavior...more

When in comes to boo-boo's, scrapes, cuts, or illnesses, little children can often be the worst and the most dramatic patients. The littlest cut is on par with the gargantuan loss of blood produced from a lost limb. Sicknesses are cause enough for the world to stop turning. And sometimes, a kiss from Mommy just doesn't fully fix things. Trouble is, they want to get better, but seem to want to prolong the agony (for everybody!) as long as possible.

Jane Yolen's How Do Dinosaurs Get Well Soon? is a clever and capably-illustrated picture book that seems to be a great choice to read to kids if they are sick--or if they just really like dinosaurs.
Written in rhyming couplets, the majority of the book presents a series of humorous questions relating to misbehavior when it comes to taking medicine, going to the doctor's office, etc. Ultimately, these questions are refuted by assertions that the best way to feel better is to let parents and doctor...more

How Do Dinosaurs Get Well Soon? is a wonderful book about how dinosaurs act when they get sick. Written almost entirely in questions, the dinosaurs are portrayed as stubborn and disobedient (which is clearly illustrated on the cover). Near the end, the questions are answered and it shows how the dinosaurs really act when they are sick, which resembles the behaviors young children should have when ill. I think this would be a great book to read aloud to a Kindergarten class because it is very sho...more

This is a fantastic childrens book. It discusses how a dinasaurs would behave if they got the flu. I happened to check this book out at the library with my five year-old grandson. It is beautifully illustrated with full page color pictures and the way it describes the stages of sickness were very familiar to my grandson who had recently had the flu. It asked questions like, did the dinasaur cover his cough, or spit his pills in the sink and even if he threw tissues on the floor. These were thing...more

This was a pretty fun little book that I used for a preschool story time. It shows the dinosaur being sick, and all the naughty things that a bad patient might do, followed up by what a good patient will do. For a savvy preschool class though, you may have a problem. I certainly did. They wanted scientific names of each type of dinosaur (and even corrected one of my answers!) and did not/could not/would not accept the idea that the dinosaur had a human mother. Not popular with my shrewd group, n...more
Oh no dinosaurs are sick! This is such a cute and fun book about how you would think dinosaurs would act when they are sick. I love the pictures and the descriptive words to follow along with it. Great for teaching students about some things that might happen when you get sick. For students who are interested in learning about different types of dinosaurs this book is great for that as well. Each page has a detailed drawing of a different dinosaur with its name written under it. One of my favori...more
In general, I like this series. But this one rubbed me the wrong way. I guess because it seemed like it's telling kids that if you're sick you can't groan or complain. Maybe you shouldn't, but telling kids that seems mean. When you don't feel well, what else are you supposed to do? Plus, I don't like the message that doctors know everything.
*After reading other reviews I felt like I was being too mean to this book. I just didn't like it as well as the others in this series. The end. lol

My nephew pulled this off the library shelf, which I thought was ironic since he spent two days in the hospital last week. Maybe it's because he is so fresh off of that horrible and scary experience, but neither he nor I liked this book. When you're a sick kid you don't need an etiquette lesson. I felt like this book was a whole lot of, "suck it up, baby," and I didn't like that message. The only reason I'm giving it two stars instead of one is because the kids liked the dinosaurs.
In this book, we learn what it is that a dinosaur does when it is sick.
I don't think it is historically accurate because it shows dinosaurs going to the doctor to get medicine, and I don't think medicine was invented back then?
The pictures do a fantastic job of demonstrating the size of these poor sick dinosaurs. The rhythm and rhymes are ideal for a young reader.
The parents always look a bit mean, and it makes me feel like my mom is going to be annoyed if I get sick.

Well my son is a dinosaur fanatic, he pronounces all the names far better than I. It's a really great book for all kids because they all face the blues of being sick but this book will teach them what behaviors are acceptable and which ones are not. As usual a little TLC from mom and dad will make it all better. Our classrooms don't have enough dinosaur book but mine would have to a wide variety. A lot of children (boys) that are diagnosed with ADHD love dinosaurs/astronomy etc.
I used this book for a story time when I had a cold. I had to cancel a class, so when the kids came back and my voice was still shot I read this book. We talked about what happens when you get sick, how you can behave to feel better and things you can do to stay healthy. The kids were really cute at the play time afterwards when they made me "tea" from the play kitchen to feel better.
I'm sure it's some kids' favorite, or at least as part of the set it is. I think my sons would have laughed, but probably not asked for a re-read, simply because they aren't dinosaur fanatics. The meter & rhythm were smooth, the illustrations bold and interesting. Just not really to my taste. I will read one more (I checked out the two the library had at the time) and stop, I think.
I would recommend this book for K-1st grade readers. Throughout the book, the author asks questions to the reader about how a dinosaur get well. I thought it was creative that the children in this book are represented by dinosaurs but the adults remain humans. This book would be good to teach predicting. In addition, these books list the names of different types of dinosaurs.
This book is about who a dinosaur gets well soon. In this book, a dinosaur gets sick. Does he throw out all his juice from a pail, put his head inside and get sick in a pail? Does he keep his mouth shut closed when he's told open wide? No, he drinks lots of juice, he gets lots of sleep, then Mom and Pop tuck him into bed and tiptoe out the door. -by Alexander
Big pictures just like the dinosaurs should look, lots of opportunity to share the feelings of dino's with my kids and their mixed emotions about doctors and visiting doctors...Sydney, my daughter will really relate. The emotions of the dino's are so well done and crack me up.
very teachable moment while reading this book to my little ones.

I loved this book. It was about a dinosaur and kids love books with creatures like this. I thought it was funny too since it was all about a dinosaur at a doctors office. I like how it rhymed with the cute storyline of it. I also liked it because it teaches children how to act when they get sick and what they should do to get better.
I just love this series...in this book the dinosaurs go to the doctor and display all types of inappropriate behaviors, until the end where the author show the proper behaviors for doctor visits. Super cute story written in rhyming style, with hilariously over the top illustrations! Recommended for kindergarten and up.

Basically it's a story that uses dinosaurs to teach kids how to get well (take your meds, listen to the doctor, etc.). There are a ton of different dinosaurs and children can learn there names. I don't mind the book but would have appreciated it more if it had a plot.
Do sick dinosaurs fling medicine out doors? Do they wail and drag their feet? No! Dinosaurs Drink lots of juice, get lots of rest and take all of their medicine when told to.
A fabulous book for children's who are difficult when sick.

Wonderful illustrations of actual dinosaurs accompany simple, funny rhymes about what to do or not do when one is sick. The dinos are set in modern surroundings, making the experience more surreal and amusing.
