Yay, summer in Austin!
Good food, good times. Fun for everyone!
Okay, living with my sorority-brainwashed cousin, who willingly goes by "Party Penny," is not exactly what I had in mind.
All your favorite bands
But the cute musicians I've met totally make up for it . . . like Sebastian. Swoon.
All ages welcome

Favourite Quote: "You look beautiful," says Russ. And it's the simple sentence that you think will mean nothing, because maybe your mom has said it to you a thousand times, or your best friend says it when your're having insecure moment about your outfit. But it's not like that - it's completely different when a guy says it. I didn't know that until this moment, because it's the first time a guy has ever said it to me. Three words just gave me goose bumps, and I feel like a girly girl for a seco...more

Lovestruck Summer is, needless to say, the perfect summer read. It's ideal for those long, lazy, and humid days when you want nothing but to sit in front of a fan and crack open a good book - one that will make you laugh and twist your stomach with anticipation and give you the butterflies of swoon. Lovestruck Summer has all this and more, so, perhaps its only flaw lies in that I picked this up in the middle of winter. Or towards the end of winter, huddled in blankets and with a...more

After the horror that was The Gum Thief, I needed a fluffy book to get me through my reading pile. Thank God for this book that, to be fair, turned out to have more than fluff that it appears to. It had several un-predictable moments for a generically themed and weaved YA story, and that was really nice because I was glad to have been disproved of my assumption of this book. (If you look at the cover, I think you'd understand.) Its hipsters and MUSIC and frat boys, no matter how stereotypical, s...more
More than likely you're one of the lucky ones living somewhere full of snow and wishing it were summer now, if you are there's a perfect book to read: Lovestruck Summer.

Lovestruck summer is a perfect book to read during the summer, laying out on a beach, chill-axing, soaking up the sun etc... you know what I mean.
This book is fun, quick and quirky.
Not only was the romance and plot was well executed but I feel I learnt and benefited a lot after reading this. It shows a chick-lit book doesn't just have to have Sugar, spice, and everything nice, to be entertaining. The most interesting point the Author made was not to judge too harshly on first impressions, have...more

Lovestruck Summer is one of my all time favorite books. Walker is a genius! This is the way romantic comedy is supposed to be written. Breezy, charming, fun, kicky & memorable.
I feel butterflies flitting in my stomach just thinking about this darling treasure.
Priscilla Quinn Parker ~ Quinn ~ is a fiery, saucy, indie music lovin' chick.
" I live my life in headphones. That way, I can control what I let in."

Lovestruck Summer tells the story of Quinn Parker who has just graduated from high school. In a random bout of silliness, she calls up her favorite record company late one night and lands herself her dream summer internship in Austin, Texas miles away from her home.
Quinn can’t wait to work at Amalgam Records. She envisions herself listening to amazing music and meeting cute indie guys who have the same interests as her. Color Quinn shocked when she arrives in Austin and is greeted by her sororit...more

Sunny Days, Late Nights and a vacation full of possibilities. Don’t be fooled by the cover, Melissa Walker is no Rachel Hawthorne (although I did love Rachel when I was a teen) and this book is very appealing on many levels regardless of your age.
The best thing about Lovestruck Summer is Priscilla Queen, an eighteen-year-old hipster in jeans and soft tees, who uses multiple dyes to get just the right shade of messed-up blue in my blunt boy-length

I read this one as part of the 48 Hour Book Challenge. I thought it would be a quick read, which it was, but I found myself taking it slower because I didn't want it to end. I LOVED it! I've been in a reading slump the last week or so and Melissa Walker helped me get out of it and find a book where I was totally drawn in.

Thoughts:
Quinn a.k.a Pricilla (don't call her that or she'll get upset with you) is an 18 year old girl who loves music, especially indie rock. It's the summer before she's going off to college and she wants to go to a city with a music scene (Austin) and find a dream guy, The Supreme, to have a summer fling with. Thank goodness she gets a job (or does she?) working for the label of her favorite indie rock band The Walters. When she arrives in Austin she finds this summer might not be...more

If ever there was a case for a book in desperate need of a new cover, and possibly a new title, this would be that book. You guys, I can confidently say that had it not been for some fellow bloggers talking this book up, that I would have never given it a read because of that cover. I apologize to the creative team behind it, but in my opinion it totally distracts from the awesomeness that is this little book. I LOVED this book, so much more than I expe...more

All things considered, I actually have feelings for this book. Srs bzns feelings that I need to let out in review form.
Yes, I am reviewing a book with pink inner tubes on the cover. Also, take note of the excessive use of the curlicue font. This brings me to my first point: THIS THE WORST COVER IN THE WORLD. And not just in the judgmental, I-really-don't-want-to-be-seen-reading-this-in-public sense, which, of course, is a factor, but not the biggest one. No, the worst part is that this book is a...more

DON'T JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS COVER
Well that's what this book is all about,
it's about how we're all so programmed into groups,
emo, indie, preppy, goth, that we never give others that does
not belong to our groups, a chance?
This book opened my eyes,
that I might be as quick as Pricilla in judging people by how they look,
how they talk, how the interact with the world, that we sometimes forget to give people the benefit of doubt.
That said, I SOOOO LOVED THE BOOOK.

When I heard Melissa Walker – of Violet on the Runway fame – had a new book coming out, I was excited. When I heard it took place in BookPeople’s hometown, I just couldn’t wait to get my hands on a copy. What could be a better setting for a summer romance than AuLovestruckSummerstin, Texas? Of course, as soon as I picked up Lovestruck Summer I couldn’t put it down. Our heroine, Quinn, is a true blue indie rock girl with designs on making the most of her internship with a record label in ATX. She...more
I needed to read a book like this so bad that I couldn't even put it into words. With an industry over saturated with paranormal inter-species falling in love left, right and centre, it was a welcome change to focus on two relatively normal people. It was refreshing, fun and light and it focused on the roadblocks we create for ourselves (rather than the supernatural ones that come out of the blue).

I'm a sucker for a romantic comedy, so I loved this book. In romance novels, you always know that the girl will get the guy, but the fun part is reading to find out which guy it is and her journey to get there. In this book, Quinn thought that Sebastian was her dream guy, when in truth, it was really Russ. When I read books like these, I always end up yelling at the main character because she doesn't realize what everyone else realizes.
I don't usually read "girly" books, but Melissa was giving away some ARCs of her book and I requested one to review for my library's teen blog.
And. . .I was SO glad I read it! This was a really fun, hilarious book. The main character is extremely likable and relatable. There are plenty of moments when you want to smack her and say, "Don't do that! Do it THIS way!" But that's just part of the fun of the book.
The supporting cast of characters is wonderful and kooky. From Penny (main character Quin...more

Sigh. I honestly can not say enough good things about this book. This is my first book by Melissa Walker and it will not be my last. I started this book last night and finished it today and I wish it would have been longer. This is one of those books that the characters were so awesome that I would love to know every little detail that they went through.

There is one thing I didn't like about this book. THE ENDING. It doesn't seem a closure. It does not seem sure. Especially when I know how Russ is a true lover. I don't know. I just didn't feel the ending. Although the things that Quinn did by the end are sweet, I am looking for something more special.
Nevertheless, this book has a good writing style. With that perfect dream guy you have had envisioned for the longest time in your mind, only to find out that another guy, who was completely the op...more

Actual review, which was originally published on Clear Eyes, Full Shelves:
“I know what I like,” I say. “It’s a certain type of music and I’m just not into stuff like bluegrass and banjos.”
“Music is music, Priscilla,” says Russ. “If you love music, you give it all a listen. You see what there is to learn in every song you hear. You take chances on shows. That’s part of it.”

"Don't judge the book by it's cover."
It's the official motto of this book.
It's definitely a good read!
Why four stars? because of Priscilla, Cilla, Quinn or whatever.
I just became tired of her. She really wants to portray a strong image of whom she is not.
She thinks of herself as a tough indie music lover whatever ever..^^ (though the author did a great job of having her characters in solid form, yes.. you know what I mean..)
It also ended good. In which this hard headed heroine learned her lesson...more

Lovestruck Summer is one of the sweetest and most fun reads I've opened in a long time! From the moment I met the main character, Priscilla (better known as Quinn), I knew this was a book I was going to love. Quinn is witty, she is stubborn, and she loves the Indie Rock scene. My kind of girl! Each time someone called her Priscilla and she bristled at the name, I knew we were destined to enjoy one another's company.

Having read a bunch of glowing reviews of this book before I read it, and having read and loved Melissa's Violet series, I had fairly high expectations. The book did not exactly meet my expectations, but it is was this close.
The characters were all unique and developed, even the cross dressing dog. They could easily be stereotyped, but they all had something that prevented them from being that way, whether they had a sekrit hobby or a certain quirk. However, I never was really convinced that Qui...more

Decided to rate this one after rereading it. I bought it awhile ago because I love Melissa Walker's books and named one of the bands (Inconceivable Hat).
It's a cute romance and I love that it's set in Austin, since I lived there for four years. I love that Walker blends real places and bands in with fictional in order to ground it in the real place but let the story work. It’s been so long since I’ve read a straightforward, fun, romantic, somewhat predictable, but ultimately heartfelt summer tale, and so LOVESTRUCK SUMMER far exceeded my expectations. Instead of flat characters, you get interesting, three-dimensional people whom you want to be friends with. It was of course easy to predict how this book was going to end, but I was surprised by how endearing Russ was, and what great banter existed between him and Quinn.

I really enjoyed this book! I saw it sitting on the counter at work, and I picked it up just to read the back - it really intriged me. I finished about a third of it just on a five hour shift! I've never done that before. So basically, I finished the book in a day. Even though it was pretty short, I really enjoyed it. I loved the character Russ, and was so happy when he finally ended up with Pircilla. Every character in the novel was full of surprises, and the book really grabs your attention an...more
