There are some treasures in this collection that are terrific. There are 22 poems, including “Mrs. Peck-Pigeon” by Eleanor Farjeon, “Small” by Langston Hughes (about a snail) and “The Turtle” by Jack Prelutsky. Poetry #4
This book is full of fun poems about all sorts of animals. Some of the poems are short while others are longer. My favorite poem out of the book was about mice and a cat. I really enjoyed how it repeated "One mouse, two mice, three mice, four" throughout the whole poem. It made the poem really come together. The illustrations in the book are also great, especially for young kids. This would be a fun book to do short read aloud of each poem.

I read one poem a day to my 4&6 year old sons. This book has been a good introduction to poetry for them. The poems aren't too complicated or too long for them to understand and the animal subjects keep their interest.

Charming book! An example of beautiful, self-respecting poetry written for children. (Aletheia's review: she got the corner up to her nose and her pacifier made her think she was really chewing on it.)
