I am revising this review after reading M. Purver, a source Mr. Fanning relies upon heavily.
I couldn't resist yet another book on Isaac Newton and alchemy. But read Michael White before you read this one, because Fanning is highly speculative and often writes in a circuitous path. I was first interested in the book because few of his references overlapped my own reading on the topic, and he had interesting observations about the origins of the Royal Society. I suggest reading M. Purver, a source
