Two months into the 2007 baseball season, novelist Jane Heller, an obsessed Yankee fan heartsick over their poor play, announced her intention to divorce the team, on grounds of mental cruelty, in the pages of the New York Times. Her words inflamed the passions of sports lovers across the country, and her piece quickly became the newspaper’s most e-mailed and talked-a...more

This book annoyed me to no end. The author tells the story of her life as a female Yankee fan and the love-hate relationship she has with the team. I should identify, right? My kind of girl?

Ugh, no. For one thing, I hate when people proclaim themselves "the world's biggest [insert team here:] fan". I particularly hate when people proclaim themselves the world's biggest Yankee fan (and no, it's not because I think I am).

The brand of fan-dom that she demonstrates in t...more

Entertaining but nowhere near as informative or in-depth a look at MLB as Feinstein's Living on the Black. Although it was nice to read that Heller's the rare Yankee fan who can also appreciate the Rays (though maybe not anymore). Heller raises some interesting thoughts about being a fan, such as the contrasst between those who love their team, win or lose, and those who only love them when they win. Not to mention those for whom fandom is always a joy versus those for whom it becomes almost ...more

Heller is remembered (vilified by some) Yankee fans for her tongue-in-cheek "I'm divorcing the Yankees" article in The New York Times in 2007... this is the story of how she follows the team to every game in the 2nd half of that season. The impressive thing is how she makes a story out of nothing but her passion for her team. Some parts are LOL funny; definitely better if you are a Yankee fan!

I was very disappointed with this book. I love the Yankees like crazy, and I thought it would be refreshing to hear from a die-hard female fan. And yet, there wasn't any "there" there. She attended most of the games (although in the book jacket description, she says she went to all of them). She tried to hobnob with the celebrity players, to no avail. There didn't seem to be much of a point or central unifying idea to this book.

If you love baseball, if you want to learn how to take an idea/dream and make it a reality, if you want to write non-fiction, and especially if you LOVE the Yankees this book is a great ride!

I loved it. Jane is quick, witty, and fiesty just like myself. I feel as though reading this book was a reflection of myself and the trials I've faced as a female yankee fan over the last 3-5 years.

The first part of the book could have been written by me. I only wish I had the chance to travel around with the Yankees!

As a she-fan of the Yankees myself. I really enjoyed this book. I laughed out loud when Jane expressed her disgust at Joe Torre using Carl Pavano, Carl f*#*ing Pavano as the pitcher on opening day.

I've been curious about this book for along time. It's not bad but it's also not the best book I've read. Somewhere along the way, you may identify with some of Jane's thoughts especially when it comes to the team and players. I guess I expected something a bit more in depth and behind the scenes based on the summary I read. However, I do like how you see Jane's own overzealous passion for the Yankees transform over the course of following them on the road. If you're a Yankee fan and a "...more

Apparently A-Rod did resign and Girardi ended up being a good manager. An interesting tale of a she-fan traveling with her team and learning a little about "winning isn't everything" along the way.

As a fellow she-fan (of the Yankees), I loved this book! It's a really quick read, but very entertaining. And she knows her baseball, which is critical.

Cute, easy, breezy read. I was resistant heading into this, as I did not want a cutesy account of a female sports fan, something along the lines of "I love watching baseball because the players' butts look so cute in their uniforms," or maybe Alyssa Milano's new book. However, Jane's the real deal, straightforward yet highly emotional. A good way to kick off the '09 season. And lest it be forgotten: Let's Go Yankees!

Worthy read for any true yankees fan. True fans will understand the obssession thatshe describes and will relate to most of her reactions.
Funny and little scary how baseball can take over your life.

I really enjoyed this book. Jane Heller sounds just like my mom or my sister with her love of the Yankees and dislike of some other teams. She made me laugh out loud in some parts.
