This is the follow up to the first book in the series, Night Sins. I’ll start off by saying I’m not a fan of having to read two books to figure out the resolution to a mystery. However, I liked the book even though it had some issues.

The story continues with the State’s Assistant City Attorney Ellen North at the forefront. She’s been handed the case involving Garrett Wright who Mitch Holt arrested for the assault of Megan O’Malley and the abduction of Josh Kirkwood. What seems to More...

So this is the sequel to Night Sins, and written in the same style. A continuation from the capture of Garrett Wright at the end of NS.

Assistant DA Ellen North taking over the lead female protagonist for Megan O'Malley. It's a case that looks like a slam dunk at first, but has just enough holes and complications, including frustrating facets of the judicial process (although maybe an attorney would know differently).

Ellen has moved away from the big city by choice, bu More...

I really enjoyed this book, a thriller/romance that was complex, believable, and well-written. There were a lot of characters with distinct personalities, memorable personalities which made it easy to keep track of who everyone is and what role they were playing. The protagonist is a female lawyer who is believable, feels like a real person, behaves in a credible manner. The tension is constant, the action is realistic and exciting. It is a little dark in its subject matter, but not overly s More...

A young boy is kidnapped while waiting to be picked up from a hockey practice, A Minnesota BCA agent is kidnapped and severely beaten and Assistant County Attorney Ellen North is assigned as prosecutor for the arrested perpetrator a well liked professor at the local college. Evidence is there but not quite enough for a sure indictment, but Ellen is going ahead in hopes more information comes to light. She has to put up with the politics of her bosses who have their eyes on advancement, The gam More...

While I would consider this a taut, suspenseful thriller that description really only applies to the last 150 pages.

The first 300 pages dragged a little. A few too many annoying characters for my tastes.

Once the action moved to the courtroom the book started to move with some urgency.

The accomplice is predictable only because they stand out against all the other characters a little too much.

The red herrings weren't exactly bait that was worth go More...

Bargain price purchase. This story is about a young boy who has been abducted, then returned in mute state. He is afraid to tell anyone what has happened when he was gone. A suspect is apprehended, a mild-mannered professor at the local college, and Ellen North much bring the case to trial and try to unravel why another child has been taken while the suspet is in jail. I like Tami Hoag and this was an engaging book.

so i decided to give tami hoag another chance, because i couldn't remember why i didn't read all her stuff in the first place.

this book reminded me.

this book rang in as a wannabe-grisham-type procedural, instead of a tightly paced thriller, which is what i was expecting. i didn't really care about any of the characters - ellen, jay, tony, the judge, josh, etc. etc. i didn't care about hannah, i didn't care about paul, i didn't care about father tom.

What a book ! Took me longer than usual to read this book due to a family crises; but I'm glad I read it. Even though you know the culprit from the beginning, I was constantly questioning if I was right. The final chapters made me wonder why I had not realized who th accomplices were. Hoag is an excellant writer, this is definately a book you should read

I enjoyed this second Deer Lake book, which really was a continuation of the first book in most ways. As always I love the mix of romance and suspense that Hoag uses in her books, but was a bit disappointed that there was a new romance is this second book when so much of the rest of the book's plot was tightly joined to that of the first book.

I still enjoyed it very much and look forward to reading more of her books. I'm glad I've picked her back up for my TBR list, I don't know why I More...

Continuation of Night Sins, as a small Minnesota town copes with child kidnapping and murder, and preps for the trial of a college professor who is represented by a big city lawyer who makes life miserable for prosecutor Ellen Kirkwood. Seems like everyone in this story is a suspect. Well written and fun to read!!

*did not finish*

This was my first Tami Hoag book and with the high rating, I really wanted to like it but I just could not finish it.

Not finishing it had less to do with the actual story line and more to do with the fact that even at half way through, Hoag was still introducing new characters. One chapter she calls them Mr. So and so. The next she calls them by their title or by their first name. I was so confused by who was who that I had More...

I didn't read Night Sins and skipped right to this one. This story is so bad. I almost didn't want to finish it because of Ellen's IRRITATING behaviour towards everyone, especially Jay. The identity of the culprit is someone you'll never guess. This was ok and NOT recommended. 1/5 stars.

I like most of Tami Hoag's books that I have read, which actually isn't very many.

This one was the slowest and most boring of them all. It wasn't predictable if that's what you're looking for, but by the time I did get to the end I was so relieved that I didn't care anymore. The story is too complicated, too many characters to try to keep up with. Which is a sorry excuse, but maybe it was just the story itself. Maybe it was the protagonist, she was annoying.

Not worth it.

This book is written in a completely different way from the first book and from a different perspective. It took me a few pages to get into then I was hooked! It was really exciting at times and ended well.
I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys detective-type thrillers.

The trama is great, you really want to get to the end, and you can't imagine what's on the next page. Having said that, like any thriller-crime book it usually keeps the answer to the end but is not a solid ending.

A; somewhat of a follow up to Night Sins; this tale focuses on the trial of the professor. Another strong female lead is the prosecuter who questions the case when another child goes missing while her perp is locked up.

could have done without some of the romance - the guy was originally such a sleaze it was hard to see why she was attracted at all for a long time - so he was good looking! That's not enough. Good mystery, though.

I thought this was good. Not as good as Night Sins, but good nonetheless. It also could have been half the length. It went on for far too long. I don't care about the defense attorney unless you are going to kill him or make him more relevant....

I first picked up this book when work was stressing me out and I just wanted a book that would hold my attention without having to truly concentrate. Hoag's books are great for that. Great beach reads.

This novel would have been so much better if the focus had not strayed from the suspense of catching a killer into the romances of every one in the story.

Hate Tami Hoag's books. They are cheeseball romance novels disguised as mysteries. If you like that kind of crap, her books are right up your alley.

I’ll have to admit that I had to make myself keep reading Guilty as Sin. It was a hard trudge to get through it. Too many characters who became indistinguishable. Points of View that switched willy-nilly without warning. A romance that was obvious from the beginning – she immediately disliked him so of course they would end up together – and this took away from the suspense since you knew neither would die. (Of course, that could be said for most romances.)

The mystery of who-dun-it w More...
