I'm reading this right now. It's awful.
But in a strange way it's so awful it's kinda great.
It's "Robert Ludlum's 'The Bourne Sanction', written by Eric Van Lustbader", Yes really! What an awesome pen name that is- wow.
Ok the book - what makes it so spectularly bad and yet strangely compelling:
The plot is really convoluted - it's about "The Black Legion", a special legion of the SS made from extremist muslims during the second world More...

I use these books from audible.com to work out with, to ride motorcycles late at night with and to walk with. I do not expect huge revelations or top literature. But this thing got so convoluted and complicated and ridiculous---one day they were in mortal hand to hand combat in Russia, garroted and injured and bleeding--crashing cars and shoot em up--the next day they are in Langley, one guy in Russia is related to some guy in Washington and another guy is a Russian cop but is in with the drug g

I bought this book about 7 months ago, from a local Borders bookstore [they were still in business back then]. And it took me just that long to read it. I would pick it up, read several chapters, and toss it aside out of frustration. Like most reviewers have stated, the plot in this book is overly drawn out. Bourne is depicted as this rather laconic super spy, who is wallowing in self-pity due to his lost beloved wife. And there is another woman, who is literally ready to make love to him on a w

Since this is the sixth novel starring Bourne (the Van Lustbader version), this Jason Bourne story focuses more on the growing list of supporting characters who've helped him in the past -- Deron (the forger), Tyrone (the street enforcer), Soraya Moore (CI / Typhon contact), Moira (the potential love interest) -- and the growing stable of politicos in the Beltway who want to put down Bourne for good.

Once again a steady yet great continuation of the Bourne persona, Four Stars all the way.
However, it must be noted that over the books Lustbader has slowly made the character of Bourne more of his creation as time passes. First of all he has removed any ties to the Ludlum Bourne, such as Marie, Conklin and his kids then he created a new reef of characters - Lindros, his assassin son, Mo (I can't remember if Mo was Ludlum's or Lustbader's, excuse me if I am wrong) - which he in turn re More...

- Maybe I would have liked it better if I had read the previous books in the series first
- The whole "everyone I love dies so it's hard for me to open my heart to anyone" is a bit cliche and definitely could have been handled in a subtler manner.
- I liked the way Arkadin's storyline was handled with bits and pieces being revealed slowly throughout the book
-The bad guys are Nazis turned Islam terrorists? Are you kidding me?

Man, Lustbader has returned to form with this book. To be frank, I haven't thought the writing was good in several of his recent efforts. This despite thinking that his early works are among the best thrillers ever. I almost didn't bother to try the Bourne Sanction, but I figured I'd give it a shot and I'm glad I did.

Hard copy is 484 pages of Hemingwayesque descriptions. Lustbader slams Robert Ludlum's Jason Bourne sanctions into counterbalanced injunctions spiked with self-deprecating permission to systematically and callously kill and maim opposing foes.
Global Muslim terrorists, homegrown self-serving politicians, kindhearted yet ruthless CIA agents, and then there is Jason Bourne and his nemesis Leonid Danilovich Arkadin. Equally Callous, equally threatening, remorseless and impenetrable. Will More...

It was a good no brainer read that wasn't as good as Robert Ludlum's writing but still good. I learned that you still don't mess with Jason Bourne and when you need something impossible done seek out "the man".

The 6th instalment in the "Jason Bourne" series by Robert Ludlum
This novel focuses primarily on never ending action placing characters in hair raising situations. The author has Bourne on another chaotic chase, this time in Moscow dogging pursuers while he himself hunts one of the most dangerous villains, a killer named Arkasan. Hold you breath, this is a fast paced story where Bourne faces the most treacherous campaign to date.

A fun read, not too challenging. It was just what I wanted and expected. I listened to the book and the narrator was fine. There were so many holes in the logic of the story that I sometimes had a difficult time suspending belief.
I hadn't read the previous Bourne book in the series and so the references to past lovers and their deaths were a little hard to follow but I think you could read this book on its own and you can still follow the plot.

Can I give this 3.5 stars? I picked this book up hoping it would be similar to the movies, as I've not read a Bourne book before. This book was good. A stand alone separate from the movies, in fact when I was reading it, I did not relate back to the movie characters at all. The twists were pretty good, as I didn't see them coming until shortly before they took place.
It did, however, seem to take an awful long time for me to get through this book, which is unusual. I was pleased with More...

I have been reading Eric Van Lustbaser's Ninja books featuring Nicholas Linnear for years and have enjoyed them. Although they have a bit of oriental 'woo - woo,' they are fun reads.
I have also been reading Ludlum's books for 20 years and enjoying them immensly. The plots are convoluted, but why else would you read a 'spy novel'

I got the audio book from my parents when my dad was finished with it. Very good reader on the CDs. Helped me finish a story I might have otherwise walked away from.
Because I've only seen the movies (something I'm working on fixing) I got lost in a few places and by some of the action. Someone who's more familiar with the characters may not have such a hard time.
Not bad overall, just very violent and very fast paced.

Again, Van Lustbader isn't a fantastic writer, but neither is series creator Robert Ludlum so nothing is lost and there is a lot to gain with the continuation of the interesting Bourne series. Van Lustbader introduces a character here, Lenoid Danilovich Arkadin, who is my favorite in the series and a great antagonist for Bourne. Many plot points are predictable and at times kind of dumb, but Arkadin's story is interesting and Bourne is as entertaining as ever. Good airplane read, quick read, rea

As a Bourne book, it's a big ol' pile of "meh." There is nothing new or novel about the plot. Lustbader desperately seeks to make up for this by keeping his readers distracted with a tale that uses _every_ cliche in the genre - sometimes two or three times in certain characters.
However, I really enjoyed the development and treatment of Arkadin, one of the half-dozen villians. It's pretty rare when you find yourself pulling for someone so evil. Interest in this character alo More...

I was a little disappointed. I'm a big Bourne fan, but maybe it was really Ludlum and not Van Lustbader. The plot was sort of hard to follow in spots, the characters were pretty shallow with one or two exceptions, and the action sequences weren't as compelling as I remember from earlier books. I'll read the next one though...
* Couldn't finish
** I had nothing else to do
*** Passed the time, would be **** for genre / author fans
**** Everyone could enjoy this book

I loved the action and pace of the films, so decided to pick up this book (the first of the Bourne series I have read).
I found that after the first 200 pages (the edition I read had 614 pages) I was desperate for the story to get going - there seemed to be endless subplots, changes of location / time and plot twists that added nothing to the underlying story.

I'll start by saying that while this novel is the best (so far) of the three Bourne books by Eric Van Lustbader, none of the new novels compare to Robert Ludlum's original trilogy.
The nice thing about this piece was the "candle burning at both ends" feeling I got as I followed both Jason Bourne and his "new" arch nemesis, Leonid Arkadin, to their inevitable showdown. The two men leave a bloody trail of bodies and bullets in their wake, and then, through an ingenius litt More...

Eric Van Lustbader is wordy. Eric does a wonderful job of writing as Ludlum--he's even "wordy-er." Like all Bourne novels, every third of fourth page we are reminded of what went on three or four pages ago. We are introduced to minor characters and the inner details of what makes them click only to find out that they are minor characters made up to cork the hole of the empty plot.

This was a very difficult read - typos, grammatical errors, etc.[return][return]I found the story line to be okay (at best) and was at least mildly entertained...but towards the end I was in disbelief at the number of resolutions to plots that came about by coincidental meetings, events, and even a child in Munich (with a British Accent) saying, "...right as rain" - Literally this saved the day! Lame...After the first couple coincidences that resolved tension or a dangerous situation I

The synopsis at the back side of the book said it right: this work has nothing to do anymore with the original trilogy that Ludlum wrote about Jason Bourne.
Bourne is again (on of) the main character(s)in this book. But I did not find it as addictive as the first three books.
Sometimes Bournes past is mentioned, but I miss the confused Bourne, who tries to put together the memory flashes with reality as he lives it. He is now 'only' looking for some terrorist organisation that h More...

Having fun trying to figure who is the baddest of the bad in this book, It involves the culture we like to pretend is dead since the fall of the Berlin wall. In other words spies. It is fun to see into this sub sub culture of governments to see who really runs things. Lot's of different forms of murder and all varieties of spies. How isgood or bad seems to be on the eye of the reader. For spy reading fun and those who like murder and mayhem. Read "The Bourne Sanction" By Robert Lu

This story follows Jason Bourne a few years after his previous escapades. He is recruited by a professor to help in investigating the Black Legion and saving America from a murderous terrorist group with roots in the days of World War II. The book contains the usual Bourne violence, but the story line and action are really good. I enjoyed the book immensely, even though I expected it to be tiresome after so many others, but it still kept my interest.

An awesome book however I don't reccomend it to people who don't appreciate gory detail as this book has a lot of it. I also would highly reccomend this book to strong readers if you're vocabulary is'nt big this book will have you reading the dictionary as well. Despite the high requirments to enjoy this book if you are a reader who surpasses them and you love action thriller read it!!!

agree with most of the other ratings - you could call this a beach book - except the writing is so pompous that it continually calls attention to itself... and the scene switches (two sets of characters running hell bent toward inevitable meeting) are soooooo frequent that you are dragged down by the weight of the plot ... and the writing (oh, I already mentioned that, didn't I?)

I enjoyed this book but there were periods I thought the author spent too much time on characters lives that weren't relevant to the movement of the story. It seemed to drag the pacing of the story down.
Eric Van Lustbader did a great job of bringing seemingly different events together for the big climax at the end. The fight scenes were exciting. Though I liked the dialogue, you have to keep in mind the story is like a summer movie and Jason Bourne in a way is a comic bookish superm More...

This is the third Jason Bourne book and the last I read. I love the first three written by Robert Ludrum. This is terrible, its wrong to put Ludrums name on it. Okay you are writing about the character Jason Bourne, but don't try and hide under brilliant name of Ludrim. I am sorry Mr Lustbader, I have read three of your books now with an open mind but they just don't cut it.
