This is a very popular book among Christian parents, especially evangelicals, but I personally didn't find it particularly realistic or helpful. I certainly did glean a few insights from it, but, on the whole, I found its premise a little far-reaching for an ordinary human parent.

A nice book about raising children. Discipline, says Tedd Tripp, isn't a litany of punishments. Discipline is discipling. While this sometimes involves punishment, to be sure, it is primarily a description of an entire relationship characterized by loving attention and guidance. Wow! I am almost finished with this, but want to review it any way. I said that Child Training Tips was my favorite parenting book, but I that was before I read this. It isn't a clearly defined 1-2-3 process, but it is Biblical! The main point is that all discipline should bring a child to the understanding that they are a sinner in need of God's grace and forgiveness. How could it get any more difficult as a parent to express this to our children, or having accomplished that, any better???

This is my second time through Ted Tripp's book and it is hands down the best, most biblical book on parenting I have ever read. That said, it is tough stuff--not easily accomplished, and on a hard day leads me into striving/condemnation cycles. But, again, I read it and think, yes... that's what I want, God help us...

This book has some really good insights into dialog with your children, it has enriched my conversations with my family. Unfortunately, I found many sections to be lacking in scripture, and while those sections were well thought out and reasoned, they were based more on the author's opinion than on scripture.

A look at the spiritual formation of children, from obedience to character development to Gospel internalization. The goal isn't to create little law-abiding pharisees, but rather to show children their need for grace and to live lives in Christ, free from fear and guilt.

I tried to read this when my son was a baby, but it didn't quite apply yet. It definitely applies now, and I really like the idea of shepherding and teaching through discipline, getting to the heart of the matter rather than just reacting to the way they are acting out.

el trato del tema de como criar espiritualmente a los hijos es excelente, dando ideas distintas para cada etapa de la vida de un niño. Desafia al padre ver cual es el corazon del hijo y no simplemente tratar lo que es la superficie que es nuestra tendencia.

we now have 3 kids and parenting is way more difficult! i grabbed this book in desperation and it is great. helped give me a worldview or theory to hold on to. caring about a kid's motivations for their behavior rather than just rote obedience.

Reading this one slow. Definitely helping me not to punish behavior in my child, but rather help shape their hearts. This will probably be more beneficial to me the next few years when communication will be higher with my kids.

I love this book...has been a true inspiration in terms of what our lives should be like in terms of obedience and how to teach obedience without being a broken record of 'DON'T BECAUSE I SAID SO'.

Written for parents to raise their children from a Biblical perspective. He emphasizes that our goal as parents is to raise Godly children, not just well behaved kids. Very helpful.
