Nicola could feel Lord Sebastian's heart beating. It was the most delightful feeling in the world. Surely it meant that The God liked her. More than simply liked her - loved her even. It had to It just had to

Miss Nicola Sparks has fallen in love, big time. The object of her dreams is the fabulously rich Lord Sebastian, he of the ice-blue eyes, golden hair and full-on maste...more

This was cute, fun, and utterly predictable easy read with a feel-good happy ending, a little adventure, and no questionable content. Not very exciting or enthralling plot-wise and the characters felt really flat to me, but I liked it.

I'm listening to the audio version of this book. It's mildly entertaining, but very, very predictable.

The Good: Nicola's pausing in the middle of all her heart rendings to adjust, mentally or verbally, the attire of other young ladies at balls. A few quite funny quips that remind me this author has, in some books, a dry sense of the ridiculous and a nice (in the Regency sense) feeling on Nicola's part about the Abbey which was her childhood home.

The not-so-Good: The obviosity (to borrow from an...more

When I first laid my eyes on this book, I was hooked!

"Period costume, in illustration?" *gasp* Niiiiiiiiice... My hand reached out to the shelf.

"Meg Cabot? Isn't she the one who wrote The Princess Diaries..." Interesting!

"Viscount? Mmmmmm..." About a male Princess Mia, perhaps? *started to flipping through*
OK, I'll take it! *grinning*

And it didn't disappoint. "No, no, the Viscount isn't about a male Princess Mia. It's a [real] historical romance, but written in the style of chick-lit." (I was...more

Classic historical romance novel right here, and very clean (no kissing save the end). But I'm definitely seeing some similarities between this and Victoria And The Rogue (also by Meg Cabot), though. Same plot outline, only this one had Nicola as poor and not rich like Victoria. And same character relationships, minus the final love interest. Nat and Jacob met their love interests in a different way: Jacob on a ship, Nat grew up with Nicky. But there was a girl friend for Victoria (Becky) and a...more

I snagged this teen regency at the Used Bookstore on sale. I didn't even read the back because it's cover proclaimed it's Regency England setting. Meg Cabot, author of The Princess Diaries took a jaunt into the past for a light, entertaining glimpse into Regency England. Not without its moments of suspended belief it was a quick, easy read.

What I liked

(view spoiler)[1. That she realized her mistake before it was too late or without someone "rescuing her" though that came later. (hide sp...more

Having loved one of Ms Cabot's previous books as a child, namely Victoria and the Rogue, I went into this book with very high hopes...but came out of it rather dissapointed.

Nicola wasn't as plucky as Victoria, and Sebastian and Nathaniel were neither as unctous or drop-dead, heart-breakingly gorgeous as Lord Malfrey or Jacob Carstairs respectively were (and I had the hugest crush on Jacob Carstairs! I still read the book every now and then in order to drool over his awesomeness. Bossy and stubb...more

Nicola and The Viscount

This was a cute, cute, cute book! Loved every minute of it! I love historical romances, but this was a "dumbed down" version for young adults/tweens, and it is a definite page turner! It has a lot of information about how the society worked in England in the 1800's, and how wicked some people really can be!

I would recommend anyone this book, just because it is so darn good and cute! I think that it shares the message that sometimes you don't know a good thing when it is in...more

ROMANCE
In this novel, a young, but fortunate orphan, Nicola has her debut in London society. She desires the hand of the dashing Lord Sebastian, and almost gets her desire. She eventually finds out he does not love her, but has ulterior motives. After a kidnapping and daring rescue, Nicola eventually ends up romantically involved with her best friends brother, who genuinely loves her. I appreciated the light-hearted tone of this book. It was a pleasure to read and indulge in a little g...more

A nice light read! I've never read Meg Cabot's YA historicals, but thought I would give it a try since I liked all her other YA books that I've read.
I enjoyed this book. It was a bit wordy at times--explaining society and how it worked. I tried to take into account that since it's a YA and meant for teens or pre-teens (who might not know the innerworkings of a Victorian society), it might have been necessary. But I still felt like it was a bit much and ended up skipping over a few paragraphs.

All right...I borrowed this ebook from the library because I liked the cute cover. It's a cartoonish drawing of a Regency girl! But I also wanted to try reading another one of Meg Cabot's books, having only read one of her many novels.

Nicola Sparks is an orphaned sixteen-year-old girl just out of school who's entering her first London season. Her charm, good looks and intellect are enough to attract any eligible bachelor, in spite of her mere 100 pounds per year. But when she receives the attent...more

As fabulous as "Victoria and the Rogue" which was similar to this, also set in London in the 1800s. It was really great to read, and as always, I wish Meg Cabot made a sequel to this. Unfortunately, our school library didn't have a copy of this book, so I didn't get to read it at the time that I found out about Nicola and the Viscount. Luckily, my friend Joyce had a copy and lent it to me so I can read it! The basic plot is similar to Victoria and the Rogue as it is still about (view spoiler)[a...more

This was a really fun, cute, sweet regency romance. A really quick read when you want something fun and light to read. This story is about Nicola who is orphaned yet has some means in which to survive, her father did not leave her completely destitute. She does somewhat rely on friends to take her in, so she can go to all the amazing social outings that they had back in the day. Her best friend Eleanor and family are wonderful and take good care of her. Both girls have a crush on the God (yes th...more

My thoughts on the audio:
Nicola and the Viscount is read by Amanda Root. Amanda Root is a well seasoned actress who has starred in countless films. I have to admit that I'm a huge fan of hers. When I read that she was the narrator of this book I knew that should would do a fantastic job. She gave each character distinction. She read the story with emotion and passion. This audio book is a pleasure to listen.

My thoughts on the story:
Nicola and the Viscount by Meg Cabot is the story of Nicola, an...more
Lady Knight
In the spirit of true fluff romance, Meg Cabot has written quite an entertaining tale.

Nicola is 16, and an orphan. But that doesn't mean she's destitute. She's thrifty, loves poetry and loves the "god". She sets out to catch Lord Sebastian (a.k.a. the "god") and does so in record time. Then suddenly she starts to realize that he is not what he appeared to be. Between thinking she's in love, dealing with nefarious cousins and finding her true love, Nicola has a lot going on. In true romantic sty...more

Nicola and the Viscount, by popular author Meg Cabot, is a mixed bag. While historically inaccurate and with an uncomplicated plot, it was still a bit enjoyable. I do like Meg Cabot's books; I loved her mediator series (which introduced me to urban fantasy) and liked her princess diaries just fine. And while this book wasn't one of her best, I still liked it too.

But if you're going to write a book set in 1808, it kind of defeats the point if you make your characters act like modern-day teens......more

WAS I THE ONLY ONE WHO THOUGHT NICOLA SPARKS WAS INSPIRED BY THE AUTHOR NICOLAS SPARKS??? :P :P :P :P :P this book was so typical :/
from page 2 and i literally mean it, you can tell what the story is about and i seriously knew from page 2 who will end up with who.
the plot is really good because its set in old england and the ladies are all well mannered and looking for good husbands etc etc

I usually find Meg Cabot's young adult style annoying (even though I am pretty much one!) but I was able to read and really enjoy this one. I liked this historical book better than Victoria and the Rogue, even though they both have similar story lines, Nicola and the Viscount is far superior. Perhaps it depends on which one you read first that determines which book that you will favour? This book and Avalon High are the only two of Cabot's that I can easily read and even re-read (I have even use...more

Every generation needs to rediscover the Regency novel, and Meg Cabot introduces the genre to younger readers, who may be more familiar with her modern-day princess books. The story was light and fun, bringing 21st century sensibility to the early 19th century. But, the book lacked the most basic requirement of regency classics from Jane Austen onwards -- the hero and heroine must both learn to give a little. Teen readers will probably not notice this failing, and would probably enjoy the story...more

My making this two stars doesn't really mean it completely stunk. Goodreads says 2-stars means "it was ok", which is how I felt. Perhaps my feelings were influenced by the fact that I was on an airplane after the most caotic trip of my life and was feeling slightly nauseous.... nevertheless, I just like Nicola and the Viscount was okay. The romance was cute. The story dragged a little. It seemed very cookie cutter and young. Still, I did enjoy it, but wasn't really in the mood for a very juvenil...more

Is this the type of book I usually read? No, but now I'm more open to such books, and actually letting myself enjoy the clicheness and cheesiness of them. Perhaps if I read it a while ago it'd get on my nerves. But there's no harm in reading a book for sheer fun. Now I'm back to the state where reading is fun. I read to enjoy to for the mere desire of feeling the accomplishment through finishing a book. Nikola, a 16 year old orphan liked the idea of being thrown like a thistle in the wind after...more

This book started out kinda bland, and while it is a period piece, it isn't an entirely convincing one. At least, not to an adult who has read pieces actually from the period or more committed to recreating it. (This is clearly a young adult novel, so it could be fun for a young teen who likes romances and the parent who would prefer them to not be tawdry.) The second half, however, redeemed it. The book goes from a girl entering her first London season and swooning over, and agreeing to marry,...more

emang deh aku paling nge-fans ama novel-novel meg cabot!

aku suka karakter tokohnya, ama gaya crtanya. tokoh cewek yg slalu terkesan plin plan sama tokoh cowoknya yg walaupun gak blg terang2an suka, pi jelas bget sikap cmburunya (hihi)

cuma yg gak habis pikir nih, lord sebastian kok mau2nya yah dijadiin pion gitu ama ayahnya? hmm, padahal ngirain dia itu cowok yg sombong dan keras. kalau cowok gitu pasti gak mau lah disuruh nikah cuma bt alasan "harta" doank.

hmm..hmm..
slalu deh, ada aksi heroiknya...more

While I’m admitted fan of chick lit, I’ve said to many people that I’m really not a fan of romances. (Yay, contradiction!) So, when I picked this up, I was a bit split on the book. One things I tend not to like about historical romances is the tendency to make the attitudes more modern, which is one of the glaringly obvious details in this book. Nicola being in charge of her father’s estate at her age (and unmarried) would not have happened, and her uncle would have been named the caretaker for...more

Not that Nicola thinks she doesn't deserve him. But when she gets to know the real man she will marry, and the family behind it, she starts to wonder.. Does good looks means good person and heart? It's 1810, and sixteen-year-old orphan Nicola Sparks has just finished her schooling at a young ladies' academy. Now she's ready for her first London season. In fact, she's already picked the young man she hopes will ask her to marry him: Lord Sebastian Bartholomew, a viscount who will inherit his father's title of earl.

I was a little disappointed with this book. It started out cute and then I had to start speed reading through the rest of the book. I was disappointed in Nicola. Her character was suppose to be nice but I just felt that she was shallow. For someone who loves the great poets how she could be so foolish to get engaged to a handsome fellow just because he is good looking. I didn't care for her nickname of Bartholomew and how she had to refer to his nickname several times per page.

I was disappointe...more

Meg Cabot was born on February 1, 1967, during the Chinese astrological year of the Fire Horse, a notoriously unlucky sign. Fortunately she grew up in Bloomington, Indiana, where few people were aware of the stigma of being a fire horse -- at least until Meg became a teenager, when she flun...more
