One of the most interesting books I have read in a long time and to say this is a great book is an understatement to say the least!

Dr Jeffrey Lang takes the reader along this path as an american converted to Islam by discussing conflicts between faith and reason, difficulties associated with the decision to convert to Islam, extremism within some Muslim communities and future outlook for American Muslims.

The book presents Islam from a modern perspective in a heartfelt, ca More...

At first I was thinking that this book was leaning towards progressive Islam, but in the end I realized it was just about one man's journey to Islam, through the ups and downs that naturally come with it. I would recommend this book to both Muslims and non-Muslims.

Reading this book was a turning point in my life. I was not any longer the same person that I was before it. I was not any longer wishing I hadn't been, or wishing the wicked human race hadn't been. For the first time in my life, I felt how I was so lucky when I was chosen from nonexistence to be me, to be precisely as Salma...

I wrote those four lines of poetry-

Even nice angels could not but ask:
among all naught why man to be?
Lord answered them: It is man task More...

This book brings fresh perspectives in viewing and reviewing some of the most 'sensitive' questions regarding Islam. I find Dr. Lang's insights intriguing as well as thought-provoking as he challenges some of the most strongly held dogmas and beliefs of Qur'anic interpretations. Certainly his Western-style critique widens the dimension of religious discussions with loads of honest questions new converts may have in mind (and to this respect, current Muslims as well).

For Muslims, this book is cer More...

More...

A Journey to Islam in America, the author attempting to share the American convert's experience of discovering Islam. During his fifteen years of being a university professor on college campuses across the United States, he has met many young Americans of Muslim heritage who avoid or even reject Islam, being unable to reconcile their inherited faith with their acquired Western outlook. One of the principle assumptions behind this book is that even though the American culture has alienated these More...

More...

Reading this books is like as if I'm taking the journey to Islam alongside the author (not as an atheist, though). When stumbled upon some of his provoking thoughts, I had to take a detour for a while - out of curiosity - to research on the issues or topics that he argued in this book. I must say, the reading experience is a fulfilling one, and I love the fact that this book makes my reading list grows exponentially.

Jeffrey Lang was born a Christian, but somewhere in his life - just li More...

This book is one of the most interesting books I have read in a long time. It is on par with 'Struggling to Surrender' (Dr. Lang's previous book). The logical approach to all arguments augmented with personal experiences that most can relate to but do not think about much simply makes this a book worth reading over and over again.
This book takes the reader along this path by discussing conflicts between faith and reason, difficulties associated with the decision to convert to Islam, obstru More...

I have a thirst for books by American converts to Islam. This is one of the better ones I've read. Not only does the author share his own journey to Islam, he also spends more than half of the book going over various beliefs and attitudes attributed to Muslims and analyzing them according to the Qur'an. The book also includes a discussion about how Muslims can help Islam to grow in America. I got a lot out of it and definitely recommend it for anyone who is interested in how Muslims think, what More...

Jeffrey's idea about being critical has been given example by the angels when they asked Allah why He still insist to create human although some of them would destroy the environment (earth) and killing each other. The angels are described to be the most obedient, however based on those point of view, that doesn't mean we could not be critical and give constructive critics to others who have higher social status nor upper level of economy or whatsoever.
Thus, I believe, Jeffrey wanted to em More...

I am not good at writing reviews but this book is pushing me to do so. I loved this book. I don't know from where to start , but this book touched me in diffrent ways, spirtiual, logical and intellectual. Each chapter can be a book by itself.

Even the pure angels asked why to create a human, so who can prohibit asking and wondering or force us to accept ideas as it is.
