At last I've waded my way through the last of Robyn Young's Templar trilogy. My criticisms here are much the same as with the earlier 2: First she doesn't deal with the battle scenes particularly well, her forte is the interior landscape of her characters' thoughts, rather than painting the larger, more gory panoramas that help you visualise what is supposed to be happening when two armies come to blows. Second, she tries to cover too much time and too many key historic events in one book. I kno

A great closure to the Brethren trilogy. Guillaume de Nogaret is portrayed as utterly irritating character whose mind is twisted enraged by his parents death for preaching heresy being Cathars, fueled by revenge over it which I feel motivates his actions in this story. However, I'm quite surprised how easy it seems for Rose to return to her father, Will. After years of hating him since he left her in Acre at the end of 'Crusades', it was rather quick she had the need for him after her affair wit

Ugh, I really tried to give this piece of crap a chance, but the jejune dialogue rendered all of the characters unbelievable and clunky. Young's description of clothing and environment reads like flickering images that focus upon strange details that in no way enhance the storytelling. She takes for granted that everyone must know the names of every item comprising a full set of English battle armor, then underscores a mundane gesture like striking a table just in case the inappropriately stride

Finally finished The Fall of the Templars by Robyn Young, returned it to the library, and made a donation due to my tardiness.
While it took a while to read, it was more my fault than the books. Having said that, the book does span some twenty years telling the tale of how the French King Philippe disbanded the once almighty Knights Templar.

From the start I'll say one positive thing about these books is that each one could stand alone and not be read as part of the trilogy. Young does a very good job at giving the reader enough information to follow along without having to know the complete backstory. With that said, I think the one weakness of this novel was the somewhat slow parts with all of the back and forth with the Templars (and/or Will) with Philippe and Edward. It just seemed like a constant back and forth without much

I've given this two stars but that's probably half as much my fault as Young's. The reason I say that is because it was only after I'd finished the book that I realized that this book was the third of the trilogy rather than the first. D'oh! What an idiot.
This may well explain some of my criticism. The first is that this was supposed to be a book about the Templar’s which weighed in at nearly 650 pages at yet it followed some deserter of the Temple as he follows William Wallace round More...

This one is a mishmash, with William Wallace thrown into a story about how the Yemplars were brought down. It could also be called "William Campbell, Escape Artist" since every time Will gets captured, he miraculously escapes or is rescued. I find this trilogy is just all over the place, with lots of disconnected ideas shoved together. That's not to say I didn't enjoy reading it.. most of the time it held my attention well enough and i did care about the characters.

An amazing finale to a wonderful story I really enjoyed the whole trilogy, Robyn puts a great deal of research into her work and writes in a truly gifted manner. She allows the reader to become involved emotionally with the characters with such finesse you do not even notice that you are hooked.
Definitely a keeper.

Very nice historical fiction. Would have been nice if it was a bit more upbeat but I should have known given that it's about "The Fall of the Templars". I'll be revisiting the first and second books of the series in a month or so, so that I can get the flavor the main characters before they become old, crippled and ...

Interesting and enjoyable historical fiction read on the years of the Templars as a dominant order.

The end of the trilogy. To bad. I really liked this series regarding the Templers and the lore that surrounds them. I have read other books with the Templers mystique but I must say this is my favorite by far. The way that Ms Young weaves the fictional Will Campbell with the actual documented cast of characters is fantastic. If you are into this period of history from the reign of King Edwards I and II and King Phillipe le but you will not be disappointed. I just hope that Ms. Young's next proje

I still maintain that the first one was the best, but the degree of research that the author has put into this (and the other two books) was amazing. Her attention to details is very good, and her movement through the events is amazing.
Her author's note at the end tells you where she changed history a bit to go with the story and even then she didn't do much changing.

The development and of William Campbell in this book was one of the best plot sequences that I have read thus far. Not only did certain events and changes occur with the main character but it too was seen in the other characters of the novel as well, particularly with Will's daughter Rose. The connection and the relaying of the events throughout the novel was superbly done and was written in a vivid detail. The book has outdone itself by telling a seemingly historic novel with unending twists an

Thought this series was fantastic, and this last book the best of all. I hate that it is over.

I tried so hard to get invested in this book, but it just wasn't happening. I can't really pinpoint what was different about this final novel that made it so dull to me, but it was a big disappointment after how much I enjoyed the first two in the trilogy.

This is the 3rd book in the Brethern trilogy about the Knights Templars. I didn't enjoy it as much as the first 2. It seemed to drag in parts and I think the conclusion of the story could have been told in less pages.

Excellent, malgré les bizarres de fautes dans la traduction, encore une fois.
J`ai appris la différence entre les Templiers et les Hospitaliers devenus par la suite les Chavaliers de Malte.

The third book isn't as good as the first two. I didn't like the ending. A big letdown.
