I love all the books in this series, so much that I have rushed out and bought each book the minute I finished with the last. I loved the series so much that I pushed it onto all of my friends to read it (half of them didn’t bother, their loss).
Demon Thief is the second in the series and it was funny (a lot more than the first, I loved it but it was so serious), scary (we got to see where the demons lived), and generally awesome.

Hmmm....This is another book that I wouldn't recommend to my lil bro.
This stuff gets bloodier! And I seem to love it! (view spoiler)
So... Here's a boy named Cornelius "Kernel" Fleck, a new protagonist. This kid is lonely, too damn lonely. He sees patches of lights all around him(like the ones you see when you are hit with a cricket bat,...more

When I was little, I wanted to be a writer and I was a bit obsessed with
Zombies!
probably that’s to blame on the game Resident Evil, not sure, but I remember I decided to write a story about a zombie apocalypse.
I wanted to write something terrifying, I wanted that the people who read it would be so scared that it would make them develop a trauma about zombies, and wouldn’t be able to sleep for days!
So I started writing all kinds of gory and violent things to describe how the zombies were taki...more

The second title in the demonata series. This book is about Kernel Fleck. Kernel Fleck has seen light all his life. I'm not talking about lamps and stuff though he sees those to but he also sees special lights. He thought everyone say them until he started school and talked about them. Then his parents told him not to talk about the lights anymore. He was very lonely and had no friends so he played with the lights. He soon found out that he could control them. Then one night he was playing with...more
This book starts out with a new boy called Kernal. He was a normal boy just like Grubs except for that he sees lights all around him and can touch them. One night he kept on putting the lights together and made a really bright door. When it opened a strange looking person walked though and then all went black. When he woke up his mother and father were woried and they said he has been gone for weeks. He said he was didnt go anywhere but they said he went missing. They ended up moving after that...more

What I liked:
-Kernel. I like Grubbs just fine, but I love Kernel. I think he’s the most real character in the series, and I always enjoy reading from his point of view. His special talent is an interesting one, and his entire journey to find his baby brother was full of action, gore, magic, and of course plenty of heartbreak.
-Gore. There is so much blood and gore in this series. It’s almost a gore overload, but it makes the books amazing and realistic despite the horror/paranormal theme to it. I...more

“The pace is non-stop, keeping the reader turning the pages at a breathtaking pace,” says Kirkus reviews. In the book Demon Thief by Darren Shan, Kernel Fleck lives a life that no one understands…or so he thought. Kernel is different from other kids; he sees strange, floating lights of all different shapes, sizes, and colors. Kernel never knew what the lights meant until one day at school. Demon thief was a good book. It is terrifying and gross. I don’t understand how someone can make something so chilling and heartless. I gave it four stars because it was better every page and I couldent keep my eyes off of it. It took me two days to finish the book. If I had to do a book report on this particular book this would be gold to anyone who laid eyes on it. While I was reading I would think to myself my life is way better than yours is. A little humor cant hurt since every page is sad...more
If you are looking for a thrilling story about Demon's, Werewolves, and magic all rolled into a face-paced plot that will suck you in until the very end; this is the book for you. Demon Thief starts off with a boy named Kernel Fleck, a boy who is completely misunderstood. His whole life he's been looked at as a crazy kid cause he always talks about these lights he see's. He talks about playing with them and no matter what he dose, how they are always there. He has no idea of the power of these l...more
In this book the main character Cornelius Fleck can see lights. He doesn't know that if he puts all of the patterns together he will open a window into the demon realm. Not as good as Lord Loss b/c I really wanted more of Grubbs :( But I liked this too because it set the series up for more characters from Dervish's past. :)
I found this book a bit more disturbing than Grubbs's story because Kernel had deluded himself into believing that a demon was his little brother. He thought he had had a little brother since birth. But he hadn't had a little brother since birth...
:\ That awkward moment when you realize you have an evil demon for a little brother.

This book is not for those who dislike graphic scenes, especially when the main character is a child and sees all the mayhem going on around him. The depictions of the graphic scenes is what makes this book good, and the imaginative imagery of where the main character travels to is quite strange yet intriguing.

First thing first, don’t read this review if you haven’t read Lord Loss by Darren Shan. Lord Loss is a wonderful, horror filled novel and this book I’m reviewing is its sequel, so go read the first!
One thing I love about the Demonata series is how the books, at least the first two, don’t seem to be related at all! When you start Demon Thief you have just finished Lord Loss and you’re expecting the story to continue but it doesn’t! It takes you into a completely different story with characters yo...more

The book Demon Thief by Darren Shan is about this kid named Kernel Fleck who could see patches of light. He could combined the patches and take them apart. he used to play with them but thought it was normal to see light in patches. He thought that ever one did. One day while at school a large demon started to eat people his brother ran in to the portal that the beast came through. But after he went throughout 4 people came throughout and fought the beast. This is the second book of the Demonata series. This book does not talk about what happens after the end of the first demonata book of this series but acts as a 'flashback' of when Grubbs's uncle was young. This story talks in the perspective of Kernel who was gone and then reappeared in a span of 2~3 days. Then one day, Kernel's baby brother Art was stolen/ taken from him by a demon and Kernel went after him into the demon world with the disiples who follow demon tracings and try to prevent the...more
As I suspected, book #1, Lord Loss, was just apéritif. The heavy world building is in this.
Demon Thief, unlike the first book, is mostly set in the demon worlds and that was good because the magic system in the series was explained and it was interesting and innovative, I liked it.
I have no idea about the direction this series is going because this book is actually a prequel to the first one. I guess I will have to keep reading if I want to find out why the author chose to publish this second.

Second part in the Demonata series, and to be bold, even better than the first. In Lord Loss the writing sometimes was very short, in little sentences. That didn't bother me at all, but in Demon Thief the writing is improved a great deal. The dialogue flows more, it reads away so easily.
In this part our narrator is Kernel Fleck (Darren has an interesting choice of names!), a bold boy that can see shards of light floating in the air. There is nothing much to say about the plot without giving any...more

At first I was a little dissapointed that the second book didn't pick up where thre first book ended, with Grubbs and Dervish. I really wanted to find out what happens! But as I continued to read The Demon Thief I started to like the new story with a new beginning to another Character that must tie in with the book with Grubbs some how. I can't wait to read the next book and find out what happens and see if the two different stories in the series come together!

Kernel Fleck,a twelve year old lonely boy who disappears and comes back with a little brother. How did he get there? Who is he? Read to find out.
Grubbs Grady,a bulky teenager who loved to prank his sister. What happens when his family dies? How does he cope? Read to find out.
Dervish Grady, a mysterious magic user and Grubb’s Uncle. What does he have to do with Kernel? What will he do about his orphaned nephew? Read to find out.

This book was slightly more predictable than book 1 (Lord Loss) which is why I rated it 4 rather than 5 stars. This series is great as long as gory, action-filled demon universes are your thing--like me!
I did like that the story expanded greatly the world that was created in book 1 and took the reader through multiple demon dimensions, introducing "the Disciples," a loosely organized demon-destroying army. The book "Demon Thief" by Darren Shan is a very thrilling and exciting book. This book is about a boy named Kernel, who can see the "lights" that nobody else can see. When Kernel was little he used to tell everyone about the lights, but people thought he had an active imagination. One day his teacher figures out that Kernel actually thinks that the "lights" are real. When Kernel grows up, he doesn't have any friends, even though he tries to fit in, so one day his parents decide to move to a vil...more

I read this in a day and a half. Love this series and Darren Shan, but sadly this book wasn't as good as the first. I still really liked it. Descriptive gore, interesting concept, excellent blind-side ending (Almost), and humor. Plus Dervish in his early years = epic win. It also ties the story up a bit more with its backtracking. Revealing characters mentioned in the last book adds a heck of a lot more insight.

Wow, what a shocking book! I at first was like this book was going to bore me. Instead it was the opposite. I really enjoyed this book. At first it starts out about a boy named Kernel Fleck. It is going well for Kernel Fleck, an ordinary day. However Kernel was not an ordinary boy. Just like the heroic cycle (Global Literature) the main character is different from everyone else because he can see glowing lights around him that others cannot see. When one fateful day, a demon appears out of thin...more
