First and foremost, I have to thank a good friend of mine, - a comic aficionado-, who is kind enough to lend this book to me. Although I met Scrooge McDuck since I was a little girl and became a fan instantly, I barely read the English version, let alone knowing Don Rosa. Had I read the English version, I would have become an avid reader of Don Rosa's version earlier.

After reading the book, my long forgotten question about why Scrooge did not have a wife was finally answered perfectly. It is bit

Rosa really knows how to inject pathos and meaning into what could have been a simple, silly alternate history of the world. Donald Duck meeting his dead mother, Hortense, as a dream-memory in his Uncle's mind is extremely touching -- even if it has to end in a bit of slapstick.

And honestly, I can't believe they didn't include Rosa's "Hearts of the Yukon" in the official "Life & Times"! It had an incredibly poignant ending, right up there with the deaths of Scrooge's parents in the official

A must-have for those who enjoyed "The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck."

Also, a nice standalone book of stories featuring Scrooge McDuck and company. Don Rosa's art and storytelling style remains masterful, perfect. Lots of humor, adventure, danger, and some revealing details (and expansion on Carl Bark's work). This includes Scrooge's first dime earned, his dealings in the Klondike and fight with some real life historical legends, his romantic relationship with Glittering Goldie, and a friends

Historisch akkurat schickt Don Rosa unsere geliebt
It perfectly completes the main work. And I couldn't have thought of a better way to finish the story. Just amazing.
I liked it, but it is not as good as The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck. Nevertheless, it was still funny and I enjoyed the episodes on the Klondike...
The beauty of this book is that it enhances Rosa's "L&ToSMcD" story with additional chapters, but you don't need to read this to fully appreciate the earlier book, nor do you need to have read that to enjoy this book. It's a Companion in every sense of the word.

But you really should read both. Good stuff abounds, and one of the supplemental chapters included here, IIRC called "The Prisoner of White Agony Creek," is probably the best story of the entire cycle.

Rosa adds some tangential tales to his earlier multipart graphic biography of Scrooge McDuck, further developing the character and even giving us one story that the movie "Inception" seems inspired by. I learned to read from the original comic books & will always enjoy seeing the spirit of Barks' creative view of history & mythology turn up in the works of others who also revere him. Don Rosa's work is just flat out great.

Start the year out with something incredibly fun and frivolous! Don Rosa is a genius! His stories are deep (for Uncle Scrooge. let's face it, they're comic books) and somewhat historical. How old IS Scrooge, anyway. Alot of fun seeing what made him the tycoon he is "today". Background stories by Rosa also explain the origins of the stories. Great fun for kids and adults.
This volume includes stories of Scrooge's life prior to acquiring his fortune. Interspersed among the stories are blurbs from the author giving further details on the stories and sometimes his process. The whole thing was really interesting and I've always loved Scrooge b/c I was a huge Duck Tales fan growing up. I've even got them all on dvd now.
Not as good as "The Life and times of Scrooge McDuck" but still entertaining. Scrooge has run ins with Theodore Roosevelt (again), Wyatt Earp, Jack London, Butch Cassidy, the Sundance Kid and others. It's a good supplement to Don Rosa's other Scrooge stories.

Scrooge McDuck's life story has more narrative twists, substantive character moments, and storytelling tricks than any superhero "event." I can only wish for comics to be "for kids" the way this series was.
Amazingly funny. I first read it in Italian when I was a child, then recently re-read it in the original version.

Scrooge McDuck is just too much! One of my top favourite Disney characters!
This should be read in conjunction with the L&T. More great stuff. "Hearts of the Yukon" will break your heart.

I really like Scrooge McDuck. Don Rosa is a little goofy, but that's okay.
