I chose Perloo the Bold, because I read this book before a few years ago and I enjoyed it so much I decided to read it again for my Goodreads review. Perloo is a shy Montmer (a race of rabbit-like creatures) who is asked to become the new leader of his tribe. However, his rival has other plans for him and nearly causes an all-out war with the Felbarts (a race of wolf-like creatures). My favorite quote is by Mogwat, a scholarly figure in both Montmer and Felbart culture, which is “Better to live More...

When I was little, I used to be terrified of bees. I thought that if I got stung, that I would die from one of these yellow jacketed killers. I was afraid of them because on day my two brothers stepped on a bee hive in the woods and all the bees stung them and got stuck in their hair. It took almost a day to get all the bees off of them. I used to always run from them but one day I didn’t run, I just stood still and waited for the bee to leave. . Like me, in Perloo the bold by Avi, Perloo doesn’ More...

I happened upon this book when I was at a Scholastic book fair at school in 2nd grade (God, how I miss those!) and after reading it once I was hooked. There are a handful of books that I had as a kid that I used to read over and over, and this was one of them. The story is about a Montmer named Perloo who prefers to stay shut up in his house with his books, blankets and tea, and has almost no friends. I used to make myself chamomile tea and sit wrapped in a blanket, imagining that I was there wi More...

I'm a big fan of critter lit, so seeing this at the thrift store - and by Avi no less - made it an easy decision to buy.

I wasn't disappointed, though, as with a lot of critter lit books, there are those awkward moments when vocabulary and custom have to be explained. Avi handles them deftly, but there are other authors - Robert C. O'Brien and Richard Adams, for example - who tackle the task differently, and to better effect.

And, alas, this story does bring to light one axiom: More...

Entertaining and engaging, as Avi's books always are. I had a bit of a hard time getting into the characters, being as they were basically bunnies and wolves. But once I got past that I enjoyed it. However, this is the first book by Avi I've read where I found the ending highly disappointing!

Spoiler Alert:

I'm all for liberty, but this book ends by saying that the characters are better off without any leaders at all. OK, maybe that works in the bunny world, but humans need

This book is not that fun from my point of view because it has action, but boring action and it describes to much. Well this book is about a montmer named perloo that is suddently entered in the war against the montmers enemies the felbards and has to go in a venture to save his life. The author (avi) describes a lot in this book so you can almost fell your there in the battlefield. Also this book tells you about friendship of how perloos friends try to save him from troubles and death. This boo More...

Perloo the Bold would go on my Top 10 list of all-time favorite books - for nostalgia, if not for a wonderful story. I read this over and over growing up. This story is not well-known, and is not considered one of Avi's greats, but should be. It's about standing up for yourself and your friends, and believing in yourself. This should be on young reader's lists, everywhere.

I have yet to find a book by Avi that I didn't thoroughly enjoy reading and this was no exception. It was a typical Avi book--packed full of action and right on the edge of your seat the whole time to see what happens. The only thing that made this short of 5 starts for me was that I thought the ending could have been better. But a fun read all around.

I LOVED how Perloo showed his bravery and promises to keep him alive and going through his trials. Beginning from a shy Montmer who stays in his burrow doing nothing but reading, to a brave war-stopping, peace-making Granter.
(I did this book for a book report at school; it's a really good book!)

Great book if you're wanting to be reminded of what it means to be free, and what types of people will be needed in order to maintain our freedoms and liberties. My children loved it.

This is the story of Perloo, a rabbit who enjoys the cozyness of his home and his books, called to serve his fellow rabbits in a time of need. It wasn't something he sought, but he had the knowledge needed to lead them to greater freedom.

This is written for a younger audience, probably 9-12ish. The lessons are obvious but good - know history so you don't have to repeat it, others are usually not as different from us as we think they are, stronger doesn't always mean better, etc. More...

This book has stayed firmly lodged in my mind because of the name. Perloo. You can't forget a book about a bunny named Perloo, it's just not possible.

My sister-in-law, a teacher with elementary-aged students of her own, lent this book to me. It is a GREAT book for children and an enjoyable read for adults as well. I loved how some great moral lessons and complex character development were woven in to a relatively short story.

I liked this one too, although it is a sermon on democracy.

I read this book in second grade and have probably reread it three or four times... and plan to reread it many times more. It is absolutely charming. I know Avi is famous for his historic fiction books, but this truly is my favorite - his first book. The culture of the Montmers and their enemies really is entertaining, as is their bumbling hero, Perloo. I also found it clever how the deed was "fixed" several times by different power-greedy characters... and the ending... hilarious. More...
