OH YES! This is one I definitely remember, and I remembered the "trick" pretty early on while reading it, but it was no less satisfying. Also, Christopher Pike sure does enjoy the "magical black man" character. And for once his main character wasn't a complete idiot AND there weren't awful female friends. Three cheers for girls who don't suck!

A classic Pike novel, a great fucked-up story that I still love, and the first Pike book I ever came across. I can remember pictures in my head from these books much more clearly than anything I learned in college, which is probably the most unfortunate thing I've ever had to type.

I have been reading (or in this case, re-reading) Christopher Pike and Lois Duncan books this summer. Ambrose and I took turns reading this one aloud on a recent road trip, and we both agreed that this is not the best Pike book ever. Though the premise is promising, in the end the plot has a few holes AND some rather ridiculous twists that make it more funny than creepy. However, I'm surprised it hasn't been turned into a bad teen movie yet, as the whole thing--from the setting to the final scen More...

Karen Holly was killed in the woods of Timber, Wyoming. Her boyfriend at the time, Jason, swears it was a bear, but the town and the local authorities are not completely sure. Could he have killed his own girlfriend?

His new girlfriend, Cindy is taken aback by the gruesome details in the morning's paper, on just how Karen died. She starts to suspect Jason as well, but not before she finds herself attracted to the new exchange student Bala. He is from Africa, and his grandfather is sa More...

The book has some mild profanity and references to the loss of virginity as well as "getting laid". It is quick read that would undoubtedly appeal to a teen audience. It is rated as "young adult" fiction. Some parents would find the book objectionable in a school library.
This is the second Christopher Pike novel that I have read. They are a good mix of suspense and mystery. I see that he has an adult novel called Sati. I'll have to give that one a try.

This was the first Christopher Pike book that I read, and I loved it at the time. However, I recently re-read it, and I don't know what the hell was wrong with my adolescent self. The plot is totally ridiculous and there are some issues involving the whole writing of the African character. My big remaining question after reading it is what's a song team?

Christopher Pike tends to write on a formula, and this book breaks from that somewhat. I thought that this was a very inventive book at the time that I read it. Granted I was in my teens.

I know I read this book...but for the life of me (even though I have a great memory when it comes to remembering books I've read) I cannot remember this book.

Christopher has a really special knack for pulling you in the novel, and this one was no different. Spellbound, is exactly that, spellbinding.

I read this back in middle or high school, along with everything else by Pike that I could get my hands on. I've reread 2 of them within the past year (Spellbound and Weekend), just for old time's sake, which is always kind of fun! This time around, this particular book was just "eh" for me b/c there is too much supernatural stuff for my taste, but mainly because there is some animal cruelty stuff in it that I HATE reading about. I had to skip over those parts, and I tend to hold a More...

Usually, Pike writes books I want to read more than once. This one was just a one time read for me. It was a bit dull.

This was my first Christopher Pike book I ever read when I was younger. I love the story line, so interesting when you finally get to the ending. And what a surprise the main character turns out to be. Would have given 3.5 stars if I could.

Christopher Pike is the master of YA thrillers. I couldn't put his books down during the 90's; I read his entire catalog during my high school and college years. Now I lend his books to students and they love him. He can turn nonreaders into readers, at least in my experience.

Spellbound is one of his classics: a relatable protagonist, mystery, and romance. A real page turner!

I'm just not sure whether I love or hate this. Usually with Pike it's one or the other, but I don't know about this one. There is some intriguing stuff going on with the characters and their relationships to one another but I feel like it never comes together as well as some of his other books and some of it was just too weird. Overall I was a little disappointed.

Spellbound was a great book; it had the right ingredients and captured the culture surrounding the book very well. Felt as if I was there.

Beware of English chicks -- that's the message here. Seriously, though, the book isn't terrible (but it's not that good either), and it could have been better.

I guess I just outgrew Mr Pike. :P
