This book is horrible. I've followed Salvatore since the late 80's, when I was in middle school, and I have come to the conclusion that while his reader's have grown, his writing has not. Realizing this back like in '02/03, I purposefully ignored him until now. I figured I could read the last 7(Hunter's Blade, Sellswords, and Orc King) in a month or two, so I decided to get back on that wagon.
This book in particular was just a complete ripoff of the Two Towers(not the book, the Movie. Ugh)...more

This is a great book with a lot of action. The main character has unbelievable skill with wielding any kind of weapon and decides to use it for good, taking on any challenge that he needs to in the proccess. He helps a mountainside of nearly 4 thousand dwarfs defend their home against ten or more, thousand orcs, personally seeking out the massive brute leader among the orcs to take down himself. This is such a suspenseful book that it's hard to put down.

This is really the first book in the Salvatore line-up that really failed to meet my expectations. I think I read this book once before, at least partially, and gave up half-way through the book, and didn't read any more of the series past this point. Between campy descriptions of the fighting action (eg "poor orcs") and the antics of a mildly retarded dwarven druid (doo-dad), the writing leaves much to be desired. The political intruige at the mixed dwarven/human town could have be...more

I really enjoyed this book. This is the first book i have ever read that was written by R.A. Salvatore. Even though I know his caracters well, (due to the fact that I play RPG games and my fellow gamers talk about his books) I have never read anything he wrote until now. I am defaintly going to pick up more of his books and read them now. I am a new fan of R.A. Salvatore.

This was the greatest thing I ever read for it was very actiony and bit funny and romantic at some parts but either way it was still fun to read and just awsome from how they get so discriptive.

This is my kind of book. Filled with all the fantasy characters from my D&D days. Lots of action and fighting with little character development. An easy read.

The story started off slow but it soon ramps up to a good pace. Drizzt feels Drizzt again - it's almost like it managed to recapture the magic that was the Icewind Dale trilogy.

I liked this book. ^^
Stayed up late last night finishing it.
I didn't keep it because it's a large series I'd have to watch out for, and I have three whole bookshelves worth of books already, but I'm going to watch for the beginning of the series in the library.
I enjoyed the book, and how it wasn't entirely necessary to have read the prior sets to understand this one. It gave you just enough information...to want to go read the first ones, basically. *laughs*

Not too bad, but after the War of the Spider Queen series, I thought this was pretty tame.
