I love tornadoes! I always have, but not so much as in the break of the new millennium. I was fascinated with disaster and tornadoes especially right up with earthquakes too. I was delighted when I learned that there was a magic tree house book that had to do with twisters (and another one that had to do with earthquakes). I can remember vividly my disappointment that it was in the time of the pioneers and not in a big city, like Oklahoma City tornado of May 3, 1999.

We just finished this one today. My kids are big fans of the Magic Tree House series and I don't mind them so we read a lot of them.
In this book the travel to pioneer times and witness a tornado. You could easily use this in your study of pioneers and you could add a few tornado books to make a great unit study.
I'm always a little bugged by Annie and her jump in headfirst attitude. She's a little bossy, but it's not something that I worry too much about.

Tornado on Tuesday is about Jack and Annie, the main characters, go to a school and they go and theres a big mean boy sitting in the back and two nice little kids sitting in the front. The teacher is very young. So they go work a little Jack and the mean boy fight a lot. then they go out to the grass to eat some lunch. It looked More...

My kids paid attention to this book because I had them draw a picture of what I was reading to them each time we sat down to read. The only part that I didn't like about this book and is common in the magic tree house series is that the title of the book is only a small part of what the book is really about. There was maybe only one or two chapters about the twister. I would like there to be a little more coming from the title. But overall this one was good. There is a poem in this book tha

This is an exciting story, about a twister that comes through a prairie and destroys a schoolhouse. Jack and Annie are on their third adventure of a four-part mini-series to get four special kinds of writing to save Camelot. Here they have to get "Something to learn." Their trip to the one-room schoolhouse is fairly brief and mostly uneventful until the tornado comes. We read this book fairly quickly and now we are excited for the last book in the series, as well as the twister Res

A very simple story with some nice ideas for the kids. My favorite part is something the teacher said, "Whatever you teach children today travels with them far into the future." It has two meanings in this context, of course, but it was also important to me in thinking about my young friends. It's one form of immortality, to have influenced their minds and hearts, even though I don't have children of my own.

I liked this one, and especially the one-room schoolhouse Jack and Annie encounter that is built as a "sod" house" into a hill on the prairie. They discover an older boy who cannot read much, and they inspire him to read more. Jack and Annie are on their way back to the Magic Tree House when a tornado appears, forcing them to run back to the schoolhouse and rush everyone into the storm cellar.

I definitely liked this one, but just not as much as the Civil War book. It was oddly prescient that we read it this week, with the deadliest outbreak of tornadoes since the early part of the 20th century happening the day before we started reading it. I'll be able to go back at some point and help explain this sort of thing in more depth to my daughter via this book; the Easter Bunny brought this book for my daughter this year (along with 3 others).

I guess I would rate these books as a 2.5. My daughter reads them occasionally, and she like this one and asked me to read it. They aren't fabulous books, but they are not awful. She seems interested in the historical settings of the books, which is a nice feature of the series.

Jack and Annie get chased by a tornado. They saved a teacher and students in a dug-out school by making them get into a storm cellar under the school. This story takes place during the pioneer days.

boring in the sense that I outgrew it and that it was too short, i didn't really like the series that much as i look back because i only read the series to get a ton of books on my summer reading list >:D

I'm obviously too old for these books, [I'm 16] but they're like a guilty pleasure. I'm rating it three stars because they are basic and repetitive. However, they're great books for little kids!

I do love these books for my 6 year old. They teach facts and go on great adventures. I love to see my son get excited about reading and that does not happen very often but these books he loves.

In Twister on Tuesday by Mary Pope Osborne, Jack and Annie are sent back to the plains in 1870 to find "something to learn." While there they learn about one room schools, sod houses and tornadoes.
Sean and I got the impression that Jack and Annie were back on the same plains area that they visited in Buffalo Before Breakfast. After we both read the book we compared and contrasted life on the plains for the Lakota and the pioneers.

I learned what it is like to live through a tornado. Jack and Annie went back to 1870 to experience pioneer life on the prairie. The pioneers had to build dugouts to survive the storms.

In this book I loved the part when they met the kids at the school house. Also when they saw the tornado, that was also my favorite part. (This book is like my favorite)

They have a big twister so they go to a school. They hope the twister doesn't knock the magic tree house down.
