A decent biography of James Stephens, co-founder of the IRB, otherwise known as the Fenians. The book is exhaustively researched and utilizes new sources such as Stephens' personal letters. The biography really depicts the mind behind the failure of my favorite lost cause, as well as a number of fun anecdotes, like when James decided to take some time off from being the leader of the "practically established" Republic of Ireland to invest in horticulture and a nice cottage for the Mrs. All paid ...more
