Criss Cross finds the ghosts surrounding Victor getting awfully pushy. The medications that Victor usually takes to control his abilities are threatening to destroy his liver, and his new meds aren't any more effective than sugar pills.

Vic is also adjusting to a new PsyCop partner, a mild-mannered guy named Roger with all the personality of white bread. At least he's willi...more

Question of the Day : What IS PsyCop?

You know, it beats me. Is there a category for m/m romance with both a suspense and an urban fantasy bent that features a drug-using psychic who uses his talents to sense ghosties for the police? Is there? I don't know. Talk about a hodgepodge of stuff going on up in this place.

I liked Criss Cross better than the first book...more

Criss Cross is the second story in the Psy Cop series. Once again, a well-written, fun, fast-paced and suspenseful story told from Victor’s perspective. On a fishing trip with his former partner, Maurice, Vic discovers that his ability to see and communicate with the dead is amplified when he sees dead faces in the water. Meanwhile, his former partner, Lisa, informs Jacob that Vic is in danger, and Vic wants to figure out why he is scratching Jacob. Vic needs answers from Lisa, but she is in a t...more

1st Read November 2010

This is the 2nd book in the PsyCop series.

Vic is back and his 6th sense is all out of wack. I think the storyline is much more interesting than in the 1st book. It flowed a lot better and I really started worrying about what was really going on with Vic.

I did have my suspicions early on, but still couldn't put everything together until the end. Nice mystery.

Still, loving this series.

Yup! It's official. I am hooked!

Victor finds himself having to cope when his talent inexplicably goes into overdrive and there are dead people everywhere.

"Not only had my reality become more Dawn Of The Dead than I was accustomed to, but suddenly all the hungry cadavers were acting like I was in possession of the worlds last brain"

Poor Victor.

I appreciate how this author gives us an undisguised look at what it's like to be Victor, living with these demanding ever present ghosts and memories...more

Well…book 2, “Criss Cross” was a weaker follow up. It just didn’t quite live up to the intro that was “Among the Living”.

It was twice as funny.
It was half as smart.

There were times, from early on, that I wanted to grab Vic and say, “duh…you DO know what’s going on here, right?” And for 3/4 of the book, Vic’s actions would reply “I have no idea”. Ugh…I can’t adore you if you’re going to be this thick, Vic.

Add the new characters all kinda annoyed me…and yes, that includes Crash. I wasn’...more

Criss Cross starts off right where Among the Leaving left off. Jacob is homeless due to the events in Among the Living and staying with Vic. The transition is not easy on Vic, but the guys' relationship is new, Jacob seems confident and Vic, typical to his personality - - internally worries and questions everything. JCP hits so many things right with this series and this book is no exception.

Setting: Urban and Chicago. JCP gets it so right. She knows the city. The opening scene begins with Vic...more

Damn, these PsyCop stories are like Reese's Peanut Butter Cups (which I can cram in my face 'til the cows come home!)

I couldn't settle on what to read before bed last night, so I hauled my butt to the 'puter at 11 pm, downloaded Criss Cross, and sucked down a third of it before I persuaded myself to turn off the light already!

Now I want to set aside the whole weekend to read 'em all . . . but I can't!

The longer format of this entry in the PsyCop series really did wonders for the main plot line development, which made me very happy. There was more space in this installment to build suspense and develop a mystery that had you genuinely worried for the safety of the characters you've begun to love. And really, if you haven't already fallen in love with the characters, why are you reading the book?

Speaking of characters, Price again does a masterful job with character development, making each ch...more

Excellent book 2 in PsyCop series. Love the humour in these book, decent original plot-line too. Also the shower scene is damned hot!
"Oh hey," I said. "This is Roger my new partner. Roger, this is Jacob, my, uh...." God, could there be a worst word than "boyfriend?" It made us sound like Barbie and Ken. Or Ken and Ken. Or Ken and G.I. Joe."

In book 2 of the Psycop series we find Vic & Jacob still together but they are about to face some major challenges.Vic has a new partner, his abilities seem to be in overdrive, he meets Jacob's ex, and his friend and former partner Lisa is telling him not to trust anyone.

Another good story, I figured out the who and how of the mystery but not the what and why, which is about right. I like when there are enough clues that if I pay attention I can construct most of the details myself. Like th...more

Wow! Definitely loved reading this one!

(view spoiler)[I've started to really like Vic. He is so shy and unsure of himself and self deprecating.. you have to love him. Though I don't agree with him taking drugs, I can understand his need for normalcy. He seems like the type of guy forced to deal with ghosts and not liking it.

I loved that the relationship between him and Jacob is growing stronger every day. And that Marks was resilient enough to put up with all the weirdness and still want Vic and

In Criss Cross Vic's is told he has to stop taking his meds because it is destroying his liver and his psychic abilities go into overdrive. He is able to see more ghosts than normally, and they are more aggressive and physical with him. Although Jacob and Vic's relationship is growing and it's interesting to see how they deal with this issue together, this story did not have as strong as a plot as the first book and I thought that it was obvious who the "bad guy" was from the outset of the novel...more

So now I am officially addicted to this series. It took a of couple books to get there, but I've arrived and joined the Vic/Jacob bandwagon.

I guessed the bad guy right off the bat, but then there were some twists I didn't see coming. Yay!! Hopefully the rest are this good.

Criss Cross is the second in the PsyCop series and I can say with certainty: I am hooked.
Loved this little book, which was a great mix of suspense, fast paced action, dry humor and romance.
Great read!

I eat thesebooks up like candy. When I am done with one I am eager to read the next one right away. I try to hold myself back because there are only six books, most of them novellas, and a couple of shorts. Not enough!! (You can only buy the bundle from Price's own website.) it's a struggle though, like eating only one potato chip, to mix my metaphor.

This one was no exception. The protagonist, Vic, has low-self esteem even though he's very powerful which is actually partially why. The quantity a...more

I really enjoyed the first PsyCop story, but I couldn’t get into this one.

Vic has too many wimpy characteristics. He always wants to get high. He takes double doses of his medicine and other drugs to feel better. Much of the time he is incompetent because he is in a haze. You’d think that since he’s been seeing ghosts for most of his life, he’d be used to it and have ways to deal with it. But no, he’s freaking out all the time trying to run away from every ghost he sees. The reason he’s a psycop...more

I'm sorry, but while I quite enjoyed the first book of this series, it became quite apparent that what I thought were minor beginner's quirks that I could overlook really weren't.

First, I could not believe that Victor is supposed to be in his mid-to-late-30s. He sounds like a really emo 20-year-old at best. Second, the sex scenes are not very sexy at all. Third, there are some sentences so mindboggingly, ridiculously stupid that at some point I couldn't take it anymore. "Did straight guys eat s...more

Only a second installment of the series and the striking contrast to the Channeling Morpheus series becomes even more obvious (and not in a good way). While the prose itself is still captivating in its realism skillfully encompassing all the paranormal, unfortunately the most interesting characters in these stories so far are the ghosts :(

Victor is a whiny pathetic girl in this story. Always seeking for other people to give him answers to his problems and if this does not work out he just drugs...more

3.5 stars for this one. Not as good as the first book, but we'll keep going cos I like Vic and Jacob as characters, and they're hot.

For most of this book, Vic was drugged up to the eyeballs, and I have to admit there were times when I wondered if I was as well. Why was Vic seeing more dead people than normal, why did he keep carving pieces out of Jacob when they were sleeping, why was Roger Burke so creepy, why couldn't Lisa just answer her cell phone once in a while....so many questions, and f...more

Okay so, the end was a bit predictable. Though I'm actually surprised I didn't catch onto more than I did. But if I had been trying harder I probably could have figured out more than I did. Regardless, I still probably would have given this one a 4 because I'm simply in love with Vic's voice. LOVE. He cracks me up and is just has such wonderful complexities to him and yet conveys them in such simple language. The world is starting to open up more and I felt a lot more satisfied with the plot of...more

Criss Cross, book two in Jordan Castillo Price’s PsyCop series, kicked off with such promise. Huge creeps in the opening pages! Something special about a river full of….*cough* Never mind. Not telling. :) But overall the story fell flat for me.

We meet up with Victor Bayne and Jacob Marks where book one left off. Life filled with parking problems, crime, coffee, cuddles, and ghosts. Except Victor’s abilities have kicked it up a notch and gone haywire.

Another good one. It seems like this series is all novellas, though, which I guess is fine, but it does make the story thin.

Vic has a new partner, Roger, and he's still in a relationship with Jacob. Roger is the nicest, most personable newbie to the psy-cop force you could ever meet and that's pretty annoying to someone like Vic who has at least twelve years in. It's kind of amusing how Roger's always whispering "are you seeing anything?" and driving Vic crazy.

As far as Vic goes, he's slightly a...more

No, no, no! I hoped for so much more - and got nothing of that! Mystery and suspense - ZERO! Romance - almost zero. But plenty of scared, dumbfounded, drugged and confused and plain stupid Vic. Almost too stupid to live. Yup. Terribly disappointing.

What saved this book - lots of sarcastic and funny inner monologues of Vic and some sweet moments with Jacob. Vic never talks like he thinks..in fact, he talks very little. And though his thoughts are really amusing and witty - I wish he talked like...more

A very enjoyable second installment in the PsyCops series, set just a few weeks after the first when Vic and Jacob's relationship is still in its early stages.

I didn't rate this book quite as highly as the first, because there were times when Vic's self-pity really started to grate on me, although I could see from the further details given about his past that he has reason for feeling this way. Also, the strange increase in his receptiveness to the dead must be downright freaky, combined with he...more

Why are these books so short? They are well written, fun, different and very addictive...but you hardly get to begin to enjoy the books before they are over!

Vic is back and he's almost sort of temporarily living with his boyfriend Jacob. Things are going pretty well...except the fact that his new partner is brown nosing and almost too eager to please him, that the ghosts he's normally just seeing on crime scenes suddenly seem to be everywhere, and even worse, acting very touchy-feely...and that...more

Vic is just the sweetest thing.

After the introduction to Vic and his gifts and the new boyfriend Jacob, in part 1 we're taken on a further tale into the life and times of PsyCop Victor Baynes.

Not only is Vic having to break in another new partner but the dead are acting strange and so is he. His gift is in overdrive, his usual Dr is on the otherside of the world and he's started maiming his beloved Jacob in his sleep. Then there's Crash...

It's a fast paced tale with emotional angst, great sex a...more

I bought Criss Cross and Body & Soul, as soon as I could after reading the first one, from, rainbowebooks.com. I'm so glad I did, I loved this one.

In it Victor, a level five medium, finds himself surrounded by ghost that are being way to pushy for his liking. The medication he usually uses isn't working, and turns out is killing his liver, and the new pills he gets isn't anymore affective that "sugar pills".
Also he is adjusting to his new PsyCop partner, Roger, who is nice, and always willin...more
