This book, like the one before it, was absolutely delightful! I read it in an effort to take a small angst vacation. Peter Pan is my all time favorite children's story/ fairy tale, so these books are right up my alley. In this one, we are starting to see Peter struggle with the fact that the other Lost Boys are growing up, as is Molly, but Peter never will. I'm interested to see how Barry and Pearson will develop this part of the storyline, because in J. M Barrie's book, the Lost Boys are childr More...

This is the second book in the series which began with Peter and the Starcatchers, a unique retelling of the Peter Pan story. The basis is that Peter's ability to fly and to remain eternally young came from being exposed to a powerful celestial substance that falls from the sky, known as starstuff. In the first book, Peter meets Molly Aster, a girl whose family belongs to a secret society known as the Starcatchers. It is the Starcatchers' duty to keep the starstuff out of the hands of the Others More...

I finally got around to reading this, the second in the Barry/Pearson series about how Peter Pan got to be, well...Peter Pan. I enjoyed it, and am looking forward to reading the next one in this series sometime soon.

It's a pretty interesting take on what happened before the classic Disney animated film. It has to do with "starstuff" and a group known as "Starcatchers", and their nemeses, the "Others". Captain Hook is a feared pirate who, while being More...

Second in the Peter and the Starcatchers children's fantasy-adventure series about a boy who will never grow up and can fly.

The Story

Peter has gotten just a bit too cocky on Never Land, teasing Captain Hook and the pirates when he's the only one who can fly. He's not setting a very good example as a leader and because of it, James gets caught by Hook and his crew. Rescuing James leaves the Mollusk peoples' compound unguarded which enables Lord Ombra to steal a More...

The book that I am doing the reflection on is called Peter and The Shadow Thief. It is kind of a way more advanced Peter Pan. My favorite person in the book is Peter because he is the hero. I would recommend this book to people who have a great imagination because when you imagine what is happening in the book you can see it in your mind. My favorite part of the book is when Peter has to hide out on the ship because people are seeing things on the ship that should not be there and you get really More...

This is the second in the series-Peter and the Starcatchers. It is absolutely delightful to read. This series was created as a response to one of the writer's daughter's question-how did Peter Pan meet Captain Hook? And the sequels keep coming. Sprinkled with humor, suspense, wonder and just plain cute adventures with a fast moving plot, makes it hard to put it down, once you start reading it. Of course the good always overcomes the evil, but you wonder if they really will as you go through the More...

This is the second book about Peter and what happened to him before he met Wendy. It was very enjoyable, very well-written, and followed very much in the style and story type of the first book. If you liked the first one, you'll like this one.

A strange group of pirates lands on Mollusk island looking for the chest of starstuff that Peter and Molly had brought there. Of course, we know the starstuff has been returned to London. The pirates quickly find out and head off to London. Peter More...

This sequel to Peter and the Starcatches is a definite nail biter. Peter and Molly face a seemingly indestructable enemy which can take control over someone merely by touching their shadow. Peter must help Molly's father get rid of the dangerously miraculous 'Starstuff' before the evil Lord Ombra (the shadow stealing enemy) takes it for himself and use it to take over the world or something!

I would compair this book to The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins because they both had a reas More...

My review from http://grahamchops.blogspot.com/2009/10/...

(I reviewed the whole series in this post)

This is another series I've only made it halfway through. Dave Barry is an excellent humor writer, and I've heard Ridley Pearson writes a lot of Disney-themed stuff--but Barry's name is what really sold me on this.

It's a prequel series to Peter Ban, basically. It explains where Peter came from, where he got his powers, why he has problems with his shadow, w More...

I love this book so much. Just like the first, the events kept getting better and more suspenful. You never knew what was going to happen next. The characters are strange in this book, but makes the story interesting. I love the Shadow Theif. He is the most important character in the book and the most interesting. He makes the book suspenseful because of all his strange powers. He can steal peoples shadows and control them, and freeze people in time. He can also read peoples mind. The way he con More...

When you see a childhood friend that you haven't seen in like ten years you probably think of them as the way they've always been. Young, innocent, care-free and then you start to notice the differences and changes in them, they've grown taller, are more mature, they've lost their child hood imagination and it's been replaced by what they think is what the world wants them to be. But you can still see the child you once knew, the one who used to play house in your back yard, saving the sinking s More...

This book was a continuation of the Peter and the Starcatchers series. In this book, we find Peter on Mollusk Island (Never Land) and pulling pranks on Captain Hook which lead to the kidnapping of one of the Lost Boys. The Indians on the island help Peter to get James back but only to find that a mysterious shadow-stealing figure (Lord Ombra) has kidnapped the chief's daughter Shining Pearl to find out the location of the starstuff. Once they find it is no longer on the island they set off for E More...

I enjoyed this book even better than the first book, probably because the bulk of the story took place on the mainland which added more interest and reality to the plot. A lot of adventure and unknown, which made it exciting. Of course, there is an understanding that things will generally turn out "happily ever after" and everything will work out--in a way, that's part of the appeal--but it was fun to follow the twisting plot to see how the authors would reach the resolve--it was a f More...

I really loved the first book in this series, Peter and the Starcatchers, as well as the classic it is based on, Peter Pan. This sequel was not a disappointment, continuing the magical fun with Peter hiding on a ship bound for England, determined to save Molly from a horrible fate, a jealous pixie-excuse me, bird-girl-named Tink, and a band of orphaned boys who loyally follow Peter, but are steadily growing older, as he remains young.

This book wasn't as fast paced as the first, or as More...

I read this series a while ago. It was REALLY good. It provides the background for how Peter Pan and the Lost boys, Captain Hook, Smee and the Pirates got to the island, how Peter got the magic to fly and explains Tinkerbell. It's sort of a prequel to Peter Pan. Except it's so much more. It's an adventure story with excitement and fantasy, brave children and girls who don't just stand back and let boys defend them but who are self-actualizing and equals--despite the time period. I read this ser More...

I wanted to like this book, I really did. But overall, I found it tiresome.

As I said in the review for the first book, I felt like they could have cut at least 25% without any damage to the overall story. How many times do we need to read about Peter (and usually Tink and sometimes Molly) barely escaping yet another danger? Another reviewer mentioned the Harry Potter franchise when commenting on the length; I found other parallels: the name of Peter's school (St Norbert's School for More...

Peter and the Shadow Thieves is an incredibly well written book by Ridley Pearson. I really liked Peter and the Shadow Thieves because there is so many exciting moments that it makes you feel like your in another world. There are many gruesome and dark parts in the book. Some people don't like these types of books but I love 'em! It was a little confusing because there where so many names that sound the same or, are hard to pronounce.

Well, this book was a lot more grim than the first one. I never liked Lord Ombra... But then, who would? It was very interesting to see certain things that are hinted at in the Disney Peter Pan movie start coming into play.

The idea of the shadow-stealing was interesting. Control of a person via their shadow is a pretty scary idea. When Molly's mum's shadow started calling out to Molly, it was a bit creepy (but still well done).

Alright, as soon as I saw the name "George D More...

This is an absolutely terrific book, and much scarier than Barry and Pearson's first installment. While the elements of humor and whimsy still abound, the stakes are higher and the tone is quite dark at times. The authors also do an admirable job of making Peter both relatable and quite complicated. It had never occurred to me before reading this series that there is a sadness inherent in Peter Pan; even though he gets to be forever young, he is also doomed to watch his friends age and move f More...

This book is by far one of the best I've read in a while. I read the first one in the series my junior year of highschool and I loved it, but I'm just now getting around to reading the sequels. This is just as good as the first, if not better. I love all the twists and how detailed the plot is. And, at the risk of giving away too much info, I love how Peter meets James Barrie himself, and how the Return is at Stonehenge. Just so many things are worked in More...

I'm really beginning to get into this series. The characters are really well-fleshed out in my head, the connections to these back-story books and the story we know from Barrie's original work are cleverly constructed, and the chapters continue to be short and digestible while being exciting enough to keep reading. I look forward to the next one!

Like the first volume in the series, we listened to this one on CD because it was read by Jim Dale. Although I could read them quicker myself since we wouldn't have to only listen on car rides, but Jim Dale's reading adds so much to the story that it's worth getting through the books at a slower pace.

Libby warned me that this book (and the next two as well) was much scarier than the first, and she was right. I thought this book had much less of the humor from Peter and the Starcatchers More...

I'm finally going to try to catch up on the books I've read last year! I've kept a list, just haven't posted anything here on GR. So, these reviews will probably be a little vague. I've got to dig all the way to last summer to see what I remember (!)

I think Barry and Pearson are masterful at adding in the characters from the original Peter Pan and explaining how they all came to be on the island. Peter even meets J.M. Barrie in this one, only for a moment. Full of adventure and danger, these are great. The format can get sometimes annoying in that there are several plot lines happening at the same time and you just get caught up in one and the chapter ending leave you in suspense, only for the next chapter to be from another plot line. Possibly an even better adventure story than the first "Peter and the Starcatchers" book, this installment takes place in cold, foggy, dangerous London. These books are wonderfully creative and full of detailed descriptions of the unique characters, haunting landscapes, and exciting escapades of Peter, Tink, and Molly. You will never think of Peter Pan the same way again! This will appeal to anyone who enjoys Harry Potter or the Percy Jackson books. Don't let the fact that it is writt More...

A full blown adventure that is the sequel to the first it outnumbers it 2 to 1. When Molly and her family are in danger of lord ombra a snakelike cloaked figure who can control people by stealing their shadows.
