This edition of INVINCIBLE has picked the story up a bit. It's still moving really slow for being 13 issues deep into the series, and I'm still perturbed by the use of repeating panels, but finally some of the plot is revealing itself to the reader, and I can honestly say Kirkman dropped a pretty darn good and unexpected surprise in "Perfect Strangers." After having fallen to two stars with the last collection ("Eight is Enough"), this series is now back up to a solid three s

To be truthful, the reason I keep reading this book is that the hardcovers are really pretty and easily available at the library. I do tend to like the supervillain plots, but find the relationship stuff to be tedious as

Review from the PFS Book Club...
What I Liked: I love a good twist. I mean, that's why fans loved Lost, right? Those first two seasons were filled with the craziest twists on television. It's the same short of idea that is propelling Pretty Little Liars and The Vampire Diaries to popularity. And while the serialized comic book form is known for their dangling cliffhangers, designed to bring back readers every issue, the twist here is so shocking, so amazing, that it changes the entire More...

I can't say enough of this ongoing superhero comic series. This just adds even more to what I already love about Invincible. There is so much that happens in this volume that will keep readers interested and wanting more. Again, I will not say what so I do not spoil ti for future readers. I highly recommend this series to anyone interested in superheroes or comic books in general.

Okay, now I'm hooked. I'm not sure why the end of vol. 2 didn't have the same impact as the beginning of vol. 3. I guess now there is no question of motive which I assumed would go the other way, something like Skrulls or mind control. This way is much more interesting and unexpected and its not black and white. It makes me a little curious about the author's childhood, though.

Reprints Invincible #9-13. Omni-Man's secret is revealed and Invincible has to confront his father. The third collection of this series changed the direction of the series by taking it down a dark path (in a formally relatively light hearted comic). It is worth checking out, but Invincible must be read in order to be enjoyable.

This is where this series really starts to get good for me. These are the issues that really got me hooked and now I'm in for the long haul on the Invincible series. Robert Kirkman is a genius!

Totally was not expecting any of that. I thought his dad had a clone or evil doppelganger.

This collection was really good. Much better than the previous two, which were both great. Kirkman is brilliant. He does a great job building the story up to this point, and a lot of little elements that were introduced earlier cleverly come back. Not to mention how great the central plot of this one is...no spoilers.
If you haven't yet, read the first two volumes of Invincible ( Invincible Vol.1 and Invicible Vol.2: Eight is Enough) and get to this one as soon as you can!

The world of Invincible is fun. The foreword to one of the books says it's a superhero comic and not ashamed to be one. I agree with that - it's humourous, affectionately poking fun at the genre, the art is clean and simple, and the main character gets a kick out of having powers. Best of all Kirkman pulls off some genuine drama without resorting to dark and moody dark moodiness.
Looking forward to reading the next one.

I liked this series, but this collection really turned it up a notch. I love the playfulness and sincerity that the author shows, he obviously really loves the gennre and the archetypes, and he bends those just enough to be pretty awesome.
How is this for geek review- the fight scene between Invincible and his dad is the best father/son conflict since Empire Strikes Back. Yeah, I went there.

The series takes a dark turn in this volume, changing all the previously established rules. I have no idea where it's headed, which is a very good thing for what is often a very tired genre.
While it borrows too heavily from familiar sources for me to call it brilliant or groundbreaking, it's still a consistently good read.

The story really starts to take shape here. Kirkman is awesome. I love his dialog, it's very real.

The second half of the previous book, and the series finally really starts to distinguish itself.

This is the volume that really sets this title apart - what a terrific story.

Really liked the art and the story but I didn't have time to finish it.
