This is what I'm talking about. Spike has created an extremely detailed alternate world that's just a hair to the left of ours. Reading her endnotes makes it obvious that she has done a crazy amount of worldbuilding, and it comes through in the story. Transplanted writer Ben Kowalski is our entree into a town that's got a lot going on. Her characters are distinct and deep (except the shallow ones), and the story is a lot of fun. Love it, and can't wait to read more.

Book 2 in the Templar AZ storyline, we get more insight into the characters as well as getting a better idea of the different factions present in this world. I love the richness and diversity of the world and am really looking forward to reading more of it.

Regean. Regean is *really* starting to grow on me. Big time. (Love the other characters are too. Especially Scip.)

Spike has got a pretty powerful finger on the pulse of human interaction.

I liked this volume more than the last one, but it suffers from many of the same problems. There was a great plot point in the beginning that didn't go anywhere.
