Unspeakable was my first read of author, Sandra Brown. Her writing skill is definitely fine and well crafted. The characters, deaf widow, Anna Corbett, the ranch hand hero, Jack Sawyer and the nasty cruel killer Carl Herbold are well developed as are other minor characters. I could see and hear them. My uncertainty was the story itself. It is a suspenseful murder (most not easy to read in detail) while it is a love/romance story, which was a surprise to me. There are quite descriptive sex scenes...more

Unspeakable by Sandra Brown is an interesting novel because it has three main story lines and I only guessed the ending of one of them. The first is the two escaped convicts Carl and Myron, who can’t even stay out of trouble until meeting up with Carl’s brother. This bunch is mean! Another interesting story line is about the newly retired policeman, Ezzy and his preoccupation with an unsolved crime from 22 years ago. The third is about a deaf/voluntary mute widow, Anna, and her 5-yr-old son, Dav...more

I certainly wasn't bored by this book. While listening to the audio format in my car, I had to take the long way home and spent several driveway moments, reluctant to stop the tape. There are several different story lines that in the end come together. Sandra Brown tells a great story and I enjoyed hearing it through the eyes of varied characters. There was romance and suspense throughout as a cold case is reopened, escaped convicts leave behind a trail of death, and love triumphs in the end.

Sandra Brown wrote on of my favorite books, "Envy" as well as several others and reading her books is always a place I find myself going back to from time to time. Unspeakable was interesting, particularly her writing about a deaf woman. I always love when writers write about something a little different than your typical characters (the ugly duckling who turned beautiful, the beautiful one running away from someone, someone with emotional baggage). This was about a widowed deaf woman with a you...more

This book was ok for me. It was very easy to read, but a little too easy. It wasn't exactly the type of book I usually go for, but it seemed like it would be good. I thought some of the plot was a bit predictable, but some of the characters were definitely not predictable at all. Some of the characters I didn't like having the predictability with because some of their characteristics made them unbelievable. The story is basically about a man named jack Sawyer, who doesn't like to stay in one pla...more

The heroine is deaf. She surprises our hero who had preconceived notions about the deaf. Contemorary romance.
So many hearing authors put in a deaf character in their work and get it wrong. There is not a deaf person who will read past the term, "deaf and dumb," Or "deaf mute." Since there are more of us than the hearing think, that is a lot of readers to lose!!!
Applauds to Sandra Brown for getting it right!

This was a reread for me and I loved it this time as much as I did the first time I read it. It's a great romantic suspense with it being heavier on the suspense than romance.

Anna (h) is a widow with a young son living on her father in laws ranch in Texas. She had married the man she loved and was ready to have her HEA, and then he joined the army. She supported this decision and stood by him through it all. When he came home from Dessert Storm he was one who came down with the mysterious illne...more

Ceritanya seput...more

Sandra Brown is one of my favorite authors. Unspeakable did not let me down. It was packed full of suspense and romance. Jack Sawyer, a drifter arrives in town when Carl Herbold and his fellow inmate break free from an Arkansas penitentiary and meet up with his equally-as-evil brother, Cecil in his return to Blewer County, TX. Anna Corbett is a young, deaf widow trying to raise her young son on the ranch she shares with her father-in-law, Delray Corbett. Little does she know she is in the middle...more

This book is about a Deaf woman who was recently widowed. She and her child moved in with her deceased husband's father on a farm. In this book, a stranger moved to the town and ended up working on the farm. He fell in love with the Deaf woman and wanted to be her "knight in the shining armor".

The reason I gave this book 3 stars are because I feel that the author could have done more research on Deaf culture and she made a lot of mistakes in her assumptions. I do not like how she made the Deaf...more

I received this book as a Goodreads Author Giveaway. I thought it was ok. It was an easy read with a couple of story lines that came together nicely. The problem I had was that I just didn't really care about the characters. Sure, Anna was deaf but apparently she was perfect in every other way (perfect face and body, skilled photographer, etc) so I didn't feel sorry for her in the least. Ezzy's wife left him because he had a case that bothered him for years and she wanted more attention? Get ove...more

Sandra Brown is amazing!!! Carl Herold is a cold blooded psychpath nd he's escaped prison with another inmate, but this other inmate is real weird and scarey. They both are scarey and deadly.

He wants revenge on his step dad and the cop who put him away in prison. On his way to Blers County Texas and one his way he leaves so many people dead and in horrific ways of killing them all. Anna Corbett fights to keep the ranch which is her son's birthright, not knowing that she is at the center of Carl'...more

Sandra Brown definitely delivers another harrowing thriller - this time with twists, turns and torture. The book is not for the feint of heart - vivid descriptions of murder, sexually explicit episodes, tough language and carefully crafted descriptions of dying victims are peppered throughout. While the storytelling is great, this was a difficult read because of the subject matter: a psychopath who murders without thinking twice. Brown's characters all bring with them issues of their own, yet al...more

Big Penis = Twoo Luvvvv!

The second book I’ve read from this author and we’re 2-for-2 on a penis length conversation that occurs between the hero and the single mother heroine’s young son (“Hey, Ma? How come his thing is so ginormous?”) In both instances it was an awkward discussion that made me squirm even though I knew it wasn’t real; however, I would totally read another book by this author if only to determine whether this is part of her personal formula. And if not, maybe it should be becaus...more

I had read this years ago, but borrowed it and started reading it again when I couldn't remember the entire storyline.

It is an atypical Sandra Brown in some ways, it is more of a mystery than it is a romance, the inverse is usually the norm for her novels. In this way, it was also less "steamy" than most of the novels by her I had previously read, but this in no way detracted from how good the writing was.

An easy to read mystery romance that took me way too long to finish. Entirely my own fault...more

This is an earlier published book by Sandra Brown that I noticed on goodreads giveaways. Although this is a stand alone book, I would love to at least see a sequel written! The book alone is excellent, but I cannot possibly be the only reader who wants more answers…..did Delray really die of a heart attack or did Cecil somehow manage to get to him and poison him? Would Jack’s arrest (after all, he did run from an accidental death and he did lie to an investigating officer when questioned) instig...more

This romance is pretty good and fast paced. Anna is a deaf-mute widow who lives on a Texas ranch with her son and father-in-law. Jack is hired to help on the farm (and protect the family, mostly Anna from some recently released ex-cons). Jack and Anna fall for each other and there is some danger, revenge, sex, and a secret that makes for a good story. If you like Sandra Brown, you'll like this for sure!

This one was a quick little read that was interesting if only due to the main female character. She was deaf and it is something that you really don't really see most times. She was a bright spot in the book. I also liked David, he was good comedic relief. Jack, I liked at first, but then at the end with his big confession I didn't like him any longer and thought that Anna could have done better.

My first and favorite Sandra Brown book. Great story, but i loved the way Jack and Anna fell in love in this book. I find myself re-reading the scenes between them, the suspense is good as well, with 3 sub plots running together in the book. The final twist, u won't see coming, a great read, this is the book that made me a Sandra Brown fan.Other books to look out for by Sandra Brown are Fat Tuesday, Envy, French Silk, The Witness, White Hot.

Generally, I don't like books that reveal who the "bad guy" is from the start. However, somehow this book sparked my interest enough to keep me reading. Kudos to the cliffhaneger moments & the moments that made you think there was more to the story. There was definitely a twist at the end that I did not see coming. In the end I must say I was glad that I read it.

Sandra Brown's book is a combination of a romance and thriller all in one. It is a love story between Anna and Jack. It is also a thriller with Jack's past coming back to haunt him and it hasnt stopped haunting the local sherrif since it all happened. The lives of the characters are all intertwined with a long ago murder. This book has you on edge until the end and finishes with a good ending.

I not certain how I feel about this book so I gave it 3 stars--right in the middle. I do like Sandra Brown's writing. The characters are well developed. I have worked with students of special needs including those with a hearing impairment. I just couldn't get into the characters. It was a mystery/thriller, but I also found way too much romance in it.
Jeff Brown

If they hald half a star I'd have given it 3 and a half, cause it's more that middle of the road. My last Sandra Brown was a 2 I think it was a bit slow and uneventful. this one has a love story but it's not a romance novel. It has escapees from prison on the loose and a few good twists and turns and a good ending. All in all well worth the read

Wow...where to start...This was an amazing book. Anna Corbett, a deaf widow, and her son, David are living with her father-in-law, Delray Corbett who happens to be the step father of the two deranged killers stalking Louisiana and Texas. Carl Herbold has escaped prison and joined his brother Cecil on a rampage across the southern US in an effort to get revenge on those who wronged them. They are savage, sick, crazy even deranged, serial killers who eventually turn on each other.

Great suspense & action! I was totally shocked by what happens with Cecil!! I did not see that coming at all even though Carl kept saying Cecil was a sissy.

I enjoyed the pace of romance between Jack & Anna. I loved how he was patient and respectful with her.

It was nice that Ezzy finally solved the case at the end. Too bad he went through so much heartache for years over it though.

For a romance/mystery this is a nice easy read without too much sex.
Sandra Brown presents a good range of interesting characters and as usual... a surprise, but happy ending.
I only read these novels because my wife loves them and I don't want to be left out.

“His arms closed around them. While the storm raged outside,he held them protectively. Anna buried her face in one side of his neck,David in the other. His hands cupped the backs of their heads, pressing them closer.Things were hurled against the cellar door with such impetus that David's small fist gripped a handful of his shirt. And he knew that this was what mattered. They mattered. He mattered to them. All the rest of it all the rest of it evaporated into insignificance..” 3 people liked it
