Who can resist a book on business advice written by a former mob boss? I couldn’t. I picked it up and was pleasantly surprised. The wiseguy’s got voice. He weaves interesting and fitting anecdotes from ‘the life’. He also references Machiavelli’s The Prince which he then backhands out of court with counter (ethical) advice from King Solomon.

Most non-fiction books ramble on for pages and pages, the writer often repeating themselves and throwing half-interesting anecdote after anecdote More...

As a college student taking Business courses in College and with today's business climate this is a great book to read and think about. These "Insider Business Tips from a Former Mob Boss" are totally different then what I expected to read about.

I figured it would be a few quips and snazzy quotes and alot of filler. Boy was I wrong... yes there were the quips, snazzy quotes, but the meat of the book -- was a high quality meal.

It is a look at the business views More...

Disclaimer: i received a copy of this book for review from Thomas-Nelson Publishers.

I'll Make You an Offer You Can't Refuse: Insider Business Tips from a Former Mob Boss was an interesting book. A more descriptive (less sensational) title would have been Business Ethics: Machiavelli v/s Solomon. Who would have thought that mobsters were given homework when they went off to jail?

Michael Franzese tells us how the mob lived by the principals outlined by Niccolò Machiavelli More...

This book is just your average business book with a twist of Mafia influence. It's not going to set the world on fire. It doesn't have any new techniques that aren't in any other business book and it tells you that up front. It's the stories that make this book worth it. The author goes into how he used each technique when he was with the Mob. Some of his stories are very good and others leave a lot to be desired. The hardback is a nice touch, however what makes it worth it is the fact that you More...

In I’ll Make You an Offer You Can’t Refuse, Michael Franzese, former capo in the Colombo crime family, shares his insight and wisdom in running and making the most of your business. From the basics, like creating a written business plan, to keeping it legal, Michael offers antidotes and stories that describe how he reached success while a high ranking member of the mob.

But therein lies the problem. There were double standards throughout the book. For example, Michael Franzese tells u More...

Michael Franzese used to be in the mob. He was pretty successful in his Mafia business dealings, but eventually the life caught up with him (he says that’s the case for all mobsters) and he went to prison. Some of the tips here are simply common sense, but the stories still make for an interesting read. The mob stories were especially intriguing!

Reading this made me interested in Franzese’s other books; I’d like to know more about what made him change his life.

I really liked this book, it was written from a different angle than other leadership books. Written from a mobsters perspective, he quotes the Book of Solomon and resources the book "The Prince" frequently.

For example, he recommends getting a consigliere (a counselor) to "safeguard your shortsightedness, lack of information or perspective, even your own bad judgment." (p. 28).

He is pro-education and pro-family, the two things in life I agree are most More...

Business principles. (Machiavelli vs. Solomon) Could be a profitable easy read for a round table business group. Good street smarts based on Solomonic wit. I particularly enjoyed the sardonic humor of real life scenario mafia deals that reak of some of the best scenes of The Godfather.
