Rating: Rent it...one time read.
First Line: The sound of a war horn sliced through the day, announcing the coming of Blackthorne Keep's new lord.
So, after reading the romantically disappointing Sizzle, I was in the mood for some real romance. I turned to Elizabeth Lowell, an old standby, and Untamed, a novel I have read multiple times since first picking it up in high school. The book starts out with the pending marriage of Lady Margaret (Meg) & returning Crusader Dominic le Sabra. Neither have laid eyes on the other before but are both willing to go along with the prearranged marriage. Meg accepts this as her fate (although she is by no means a wimp) & Dominic wants to claim the castle & lands that come along with Meg and begin working on making himself some heirs. Only problem is that Meg happens to be one of the cursed Glendruid (white) witches that for centuries ...more
Unabridged audiobook format - review written for Speaking of Audiobooks How We Listen Column 10/09/09:
Anne Flosnik’s lovely voice was striking and drew me in immediately but her narration lacked the necessary speech variation for many of the secondary characters. However, the heroine’s beautifully accented voice was completely distinguishable from the hero’s almost husky monotone and sometimes that’s all that counts in a romance audiobook. This is a romance, and it had the running theme of "my tiny falcon" and if you are not one to tolerate cutsie mushy prose than stay away from this story as it is a CONSTANT theme thrughout the ENTIRE story. I go in to these sorts of romances expecting such a thing. But even I was hard pressed not to roll my eyes and and groan when for the fiftieth time our romantic hero called his lady his litlle falcon and tied bells to her hair and wrists and legs locking her away as he did with hi...more
Thanks to the wonderful members of the newly formed Romance Forum Refugee group at Goodreads, I have a huge new list of romance novels with bearded heroes! Dark beards! Blond beards! Dark staches, too! Yee haw!!!!!!!
And thanks to their recommendations, I discovered a new-to-me romance writer who appears to love beards as much as I do. All of her heroes are hairy! Beards, staches, nice furry chests.....yowzah! I am now the official #1, A++ Fan Of Elizabeth Lowell. Where have you been ...more

4.5/5.0
Reading any novel set in the medieval era, when a woman was considered less than a man's animals and whose only value was all too often only for breeding purposes, is always somewhat hard even as it is interesting. In "Untamed", Lowell has done an admirable job of allowing those realities to come through, showing the hardships inflicted on a female while keeping the "romance" aspect from getting mired in the bogs of offense.

I did enjoy the journey of Dominic and Meg in growing towards their love. While Meg is the "strong" woman in a time of submission, you can see how much she cares for her people and for her husband. Overall I really enjoyed this book and one part did make me cry at the end. I keep going back and forth whether its 3 or 4 stars. I am going to go with marking 4 stars but its really 3.5 stars. Sometimes I think this time period can be hard to get into with the alpha male and submissive...more

May have slight spoilers.
Untamed by Elizabeth Lowell is one of my favorite Historical Romance novels—she is very much neck and neck with Julie Garwood on my list!
It is also among the first Historical Romances I ever read, so this could have some bearing on my love and impressions I have of the historical genre in general.

I loved Untamed, Enchanted and Forbidden. These three books are the only romance novels that I've always kept. I reread them frequently. Her heroes in this series are so Alpha and the characters in general are all damaged in some way. Their flaws don't just disappear and it's sacrifice and compromise on both parts to find their happily ever afters. I would love to see more in this series. There's just a touch of magic too...
I really enjoyed this book, but, OMG, I felt like smacking Dominic with all his talk of land and sons!!! At points he was utterly unlikeable.. Actually, till the moment where he hauls her onto his horse after she gathered herbs... And his distrust of Meg was seiously getting on my nerves!!!
I loved Meg however, and although she was a bit to complacent for my tastes, that was explainable by the fact that everything she did was for the good of her people.

Great tale of a time long past. If you like a good story of knights and lords you can't go wrong with this book. Lowell colors a picture of the harsh realities that existed for common folk, lords, and those with special gifts. There are battles of the sward and the heart that are to be won.
I was unable to finish this book. What eventually did me in was the tedious overuse of the "falcon" metaphor, although that was only one straw of many that broke my back. I only managed to get to page 160, but by that point the whole "falcon" imagery had been beaten like a dead horse. It was obvious and contrived anyway, and only a skillful writer could have taken a dud device like that and made it somewhat tolerable. Lowell couldn't do it IMO. Throw in a slow-moving plot whe...more
Predictable, purple prose, but somehow still readable if you're in the mood for this type of book. Tone & characterization reminiscent of something like Woodiwiss' "The Wolf and the Dove" (though less epic in scope).
It has been awhile since I read a proper book. It is a full length novel but still a quick read. I admit there are no surprises in the story. However, good writing will always make a book more enjoyable.
I enjoyed the writing..the ambrosiac flow of words..the bells..the fantasy! I didn't like the fact that another man's name was linked to the heroine throughout the book..jealousy upto a point is fine but beyond that is irritating and you start wondering about this other guy who happens to be the hero in the sequel..hmm..and a Scot at that! Forbidden? Nay! To be read:)
If you like reading medieval romance then I highly recommend this book. It's one of my most favorite books I've read. The love scenes are very sensual and well written.
Reread
Domonic and Meg-he becomes the Lord of many acres and is a very fair good guy.My problem with these books is the same as with all HR-too much of the same words and/or thoughts over and over

For new writers of romance fiction, Untamed is a great book to use as a guide. Readers of romance fiction will enjoy Untamed because it's a well written story.
I had a hard time with this one at the beginning. It did pick
up and get more interesting as it went. I'm not sure why it didn't
capture me.

yet another cheesy medieval romance. The best of the three Lowells, although the falconry metaphor grew wearying.
I really wanted to like this book, but I had to force myself to get through it. Some parts were really well written. I think I just didn't care for the hero.
I actually listened to this on CD. It was a good story - a little risque so not for the prudish.
Wonderful romance novel, can't go wrong if that's what you're wanting.
I completely loved this book, its a reread for me.
I love medievals and I loved the premise for this one, but caveman alphas and Big Misunderstandings get on my last nerve. I made it through 2.5 of 5 discs. DNF.
I really enjoyed this book, surprisingly. Historical romance, lots of sex, but very well written for its kind. Over use of the word "succinctly" though, at least four or five uses. Irritating. Other than that, fun read/listen!
A cute, predicable historical fiction, romance novel.
think i might know author or friends!
